Incorrect. A lot of movie/video enthusiasts are excited about blu ray/hd-dvd. No, there are not a lot of average ppl that are familuar with the formats. But as more ppl adobt hdtv's, awareness of the new formats are rising. Within the next 2-3 yrs, most homes will have an hdtv in them. And they will be interested in the new formats just as all of us that currently have hdtv's are interested.... Dvd's just don't look that good on an hdtv and we didn't buy tv's that produce better sound and picture quality so that we could watch inferior versions of movies. Neither will the general public that is adopting hdtv's at a large pace already.Sgt_Haleyes but along with what i was saying is that the price of this stuff is to high right now for the average person to care about. If i had the money i would LOVE to have a HDTV(well i have a hd monitor) and hddvd player or blue ray but i dont, and i think thats the reason not alot of people bother wit this new stuff yet cause its still to high.
very interesting point.
if most people aren't interested in hd movie players the entire 1080p selling point of bluray is useless... the $600 price point is also not a very good point either....
bad news for the ps3 which FORCES consumers to deal with hd... while the 360 gives consumers OPTIONS...
consumers LOVE options....:)

Incase you don't know, it just happened within the past year. DVD'd look great on HD tv's, Blu-ray and HD-dvd don't look that much better.

No, VHS players are still in something like 70% of houeholds, and just within the last year did DVD players surpass that.
Everyone I talk to in school and out dont have a clue what HD-DVD and Blue Ray is. My point is that the majority of people out there now, have no idea what these new formats are and what they are about. Many people dont even have the right facts about these new formats. My one friend told me that the PS3 was better because it has Blue Ray and therefore it has better graphics. I told him this is not true what so ever. My prediction on this whole format war is that neither will be the standard for at least 5 years if not more. And yes im sure you've heard this many times but its truth because simply the majority of people out there do not know much about these new formats. Maybe its just my area, i dont know but to me everyone seems fine with DVD. cmw3218
Not true,
The only ones that care about the format war are Cows,
Because if Blu-Ray fails, the PS3 fails.

So because you know somebody stupid when it comes to BR and the PS3, that somehow means that NOBODY is interested in HD-DVD/BR when it comes to its primary purpose of playing movies?
What?
You are saying that only GAMERS care about a new disk format which is mainly intended for movies based on forums and casual gamer knowldge?
WHAT?

I'd be willing to bet that well over 1/2 of all HDTV users feed their sets nothing but SD signals/DVDs.

I wonder what the sale numbers were like though. I still have a VCR in my house but when was the last time I used it? Maybe twice over the past year just for old family videos. DVD might have just gotten slightly more market penetration than the VCR but it was probably killing it in sales for 3-4 years before that.Heres the link.
