i dont understand the price of new games these days.

new games for 360and ps3 are 60 dollars.

is there 20% more content than last gen? .....NO

Is there 20% more replay value than last gen?...NO

in fact, every day we hear devs talking about how games need to be shorter (uncharted is 10 hours, heavenly sword is 6-7, gears is around 8)

yes, graphics are better...yes, online is better...and yes, there is more visual content than ever before. but why are we paying 60 dollars for games that on a strictly gameplay standpoint are inferior to last gen??

few possible exceptions: halo3, mass effect, mgs4, ff13

I'd say get a job to rack up the cash, and then you can buy games. Other than that, there are some games that are worth $60, you just have to look around.

i have a job. i work 30 hours a week and have more than enough money, but no matter how much money i make, i still think 60 dollars is too much for a game thats less content than last gen

Why don't you make an AAA standard game 360 / PS3 and come back and tell us how much it costs. Devs costs are getting very expensive, its so bad in fact that many small studios can't cut a profit.

If you can't afford it maybe you should buy PC games so long as you have the hardware to back them up.

Bioshock was worth 60 to me, I enjoyed it, and want to play it again and again, and I know Halo 3 is worth the extra 10, Co-op and the multiplayer will be a blast! However I do hope they don't raise the price to 70 next gen....

game prices are high for no reason. Look at Bioschock for PC $50 and Bioshock for X360 $60. Whats does the extra $10 pay for? Nothing. X360 uses DVDs so their is really no reason (PS3 games however us Blue-Ray which are more $$ than DVD).

Single player only games aren't worth 60 dollars.

Usually.

Any game with lasting multiplayer is a great buy for $60 IMO (e.g. Halo3, UT3, etc).

Console fees are why... Microsoft charges money for every single game released for their system. That's why the games cost more money. With the PC, there is no fee so the game can be cheaper. It really is that simple. Also, PC games are traditionally $50 or lower, while, since a new gen of consoles started, they could basically set their own price without worrying about a backlash. People just accept that the new gen costs more and move on. With PC's, its not that black and white so developers can't try that.

exactly. I am loving it. Can't wait till I can upgrade to a 3 game out at a time plan. $29.95 a month is a great deal for that and the free shipping is wonderful. That like buying 6 games a year and if u wanna keep the game pay the used price. I just wish they would open up a midwest shipping place. I hate recieving my games in 3-4 days.

Console gamers pay higher and higher game prices because their hardware is subsidized. As long as people buy games that are 6-8 hrs long, the developers and publishers will seek to make as little as possible for more money.

I remember when games on average were well over 18 hrs.

Then it decreased to 12.

And now 10.

Sure there are a SP gamers that last longer (Oblivion, etc), but when a game like Medal of Honor: Airborne has seven hours of gameplay, and reviewers don't write negative press, publishers will continue to push out half a game at more than full game price.

And although some PC games start out at $50.00, usually within a month or two they drop to $40.00 or lower.

i agree games aren't worth $60. however they r a company after all and the #1 objective is to make as much money as possible so i don't blame them. the only way they would lower the price is if everyone stopped buying games. which i don't think will ever happen

Current day games aren't worth $60+, but many older games are worth it. I would spend $70+ on some older games.

Since developers are now pouring huge amounts of money into games, they want to make more profit. I don't like it, but that's how it's going. If I had my way, games would be priced according to the replay value. No chance in hell Gears would make $60.

i think big budget games ar eworth 60 dollars, but games like timeshift, stuntman etc. are only worth 40 dollars, i think devs are hoping to turn low budget titles into proftis.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't aimed at you, but I have a hard time believing developers who claim they are "pouring huge amounts of money" into games.

Why, all of a sudden is it so expensive to develop a game?

10 years ago, games had to be developed too with the same types of hurdles to overcome.

Its like, why have existing houses almost doubled in price over the last 10 years? Same house, almost 2x the price.

N64 games were $60. (and some SNES games to my knowledge)

Was there a 20% decrease in all aspects of GC, Xbox and PS2 games?

games are worth 60 dollars

dont you relize that devs spend about 2-4 years working on games and that they cost alot to make?
