I was playing some old Playstation classics and noticed something...

Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped - Sony's original mascot to counter Mario, and practically everyone agrees this is the best game of the three. Instant classic. Gamespot score: 8.9, AA.

Twisted Metal 2: Again, widely hailed by fans of the series as the best game of the bunch. To this day people talk about a Twisted Metal game on PS3 that would move systems. Gamespot score: 8.8, AA.

Metal Gear Solid: The game that started another classic franchise and a series of system sellers. Gamespot score: 8.5, AA.

Heck, NONE of the Pokemon games got a AAA here. And all of them were multi-million sellers.

People here need to stop saying "PS3 has no AAAE" or "Mass Effect FLOP of the year not AAA" as if only Gamespot AAA games are great games. No AAAEs does not equal no good games on the system. Heck, I have no idea how Assassin's Creed got a higher score than all of those games.

Meh, I think a game needs to be fun to be enjoyable, honestly, ten years from now, I don't think people will view Mass Effect as AAA, and some AAAs as a mere AA for example, it's only when they come out that fanboys crap all over the place. I loved Kane and Lynch personally.

I definitely agree, but GS reviews do affect sales

and for those consumers who are too lazy to read the reviews and just look at the numbers

GS reviews are negatively affecting the PS3 :(

Well, Twisted Metal Black was AAA, and it wasn't as good as Twisted Metal 2.

How is Crash a poor man's platformer? It was $39.99, as high as games went for back then.

I definitely agree, but GS reviews do affect sales

That's what I thought too at first...but if you look at VGChartz (for rough figures), Assassin's Creed got a lot of bad reviews and it's still selling well. R&C is almost AAA on Gamerankings but it's not doing well. Ninja Gaiden Sigma (AAA here) sold about as much (.27m) as Lair (D here). Makes me wonder how much of an influence reviews really have...

No. Its the lack of 1st party exclusives of any real quality that hurts ps3. Dont believe me? Play Ratchet and Skank (sorry) and then play Mario galaxy. one is a higher rez ps2 game and one redefines the genre. ps3 needs better games, and soon.

But according to system wars they do, you need to suspend logic when you click the link that enters you into this place

I personally love a lot of AA and a few A titles as well. To be honest, anything lower than 7 usually is quite poor though, as someone who used to own a lot of under 7s would know :P

Anything 7.0 or above is considered good on GS.

I mean this generation, only 3 games for me were amazing, Twilight Princess, Oblivion and Bioshock. I mean I got many great other games but those 3 are amazing despite GS giving Twlight Princess 8.8

Thats what I find a shame about system wars. It turned from a place of good discussion and debate into a game with all these rules.

And anyone that does make a good topic, usually gets no more than 20 replies but anyone that makes a topic just bashing a console with lies and assumptions, they easily get over 100 replies.

I don't believe in this AAA or AA system, it's all a load of fan-boyish/girlish nonsense.

I decide for myself what is good, what is superb and what is horrible.

thats odd ive played every single crash bandicoot game and thoguht they all played very stiff for platformers, medicore graphics with stiff gameplay the way he jumped an move felt really bad compared to mario games like mario 64

I dont know if these scores really affect sales that much. I mean think about it, the people who payattention to these sites are ones that are well informed and already know what they want. Games are sold by word of mouth, not be review scores. And as far as this A thing goes.. I dont need some media guy to tell me the games I want to buy nor should I. And those A titles are something marketers use. Think about it, ever heard someone say this game is "AA"?

Reviews only matter to the hardcore/informed gamer. Gamespot reviews are not the end all be all, yet I have found I trust them and IGN over everybody else. They don't BSaround. They don't rate a game highly just because it's the 4th installment of a popular game.

Their reviews seem to be harsh but are acurate.

On that note, a good game does notalways equal good sales (ICO, Psychonauts, Beyond Good and Evil) and sometimes games sell well even though they are crap.

Some others and many of these games are considered to be amoung the best of all time by a large number of game critics. Gamespot have even featured AA games in their "greatest games of all time" feature.

Deus Ex (8.2)

Mario Kart 64 (6.4)

System Shock 2 (8.5)

Doom 2 (8.5)

Shenmue (7.8 )

Silent Hill (8.2)

Resident Evil (8.2)

and many, many more but you get the point.

Gamespot isnt the center of the gaming universe. Try telling that to most of the SW addicts on here though.

Even Gamespot thinks games they have given AA are amazing. Look at their "greatest games of all time" feature. I can see more then a few AA games featured. One reviewers opinion in the short time they had to review a game often gives way to retrospect and how well a game holds up years after it's release.

i have thankyou. If i hadnt played it i wouldnt comment on it. Otherwise i would be as bad as KiiWii or something. Its not just r&c though, there have been several games this gen on both ps3 and 360that are mearly hd renditions of thier last gen prequals.

I have never took these game scores as a guide for buying games, heck sometimes I ask my dog which would be a better game and he always pics the best game regardless of how it scored (kidding a little) but maybe people can get the point.

We all know that. Many of my favorite games aren't AAA, some of them aren't even AA, and a game that I think is one of the greatest puzzlers of all time got a 4.9 here. No person in real life would say that a game has to be AAA onGameSpot to be amazing.

However, they are used as ownage on System Wars because AAAs are GameSpots highest opinions on games, which matters here. Not anywhere else, but here.
