I just read a news story saying that MW2 will be £10 more expensive than standard games when released. The standard UK price for a new game is £40 -£45 max unless it limited addition or comes with extra's but MW2 will be sold for £55.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/technology/newsid_10000000/newsid_10000500/10000568.stm

Do yo think this higher price is justified with todays higher development costs or is this just a company trying to milk their fans because they know people will still buy it?

It's just Activision trying to milk it's fanbase because they know Call of Duty sells.

Milking, not to mention cod mw 2 looks like cod 4 with more perks and some better lightning so I don't see where these huge dev costs are coming from.

It's a good thing that devs are charging us more money. Video games just aren't expensive enough as it is.

Oh and I can't wait to buy those overpriced, day 1 release map packs that were taken out of the game.

True, afaik there's no new engine, and 2 year dev cycle is relatively short, considering how much CoD4 sold there's no way they NEED to raise the price.

I hear you, man. While I'd like to join you in the sarcasm, it's understandable. Times are tough, and people gotta eat :P. The only thing I can't stand is when DLC sometimes feels like it was ripped from the final copy and dangling in front our faces with a hefty price tag. In the gaming world, "too soon" usually means "we already made it...but we want you to buy it separately." I can see if it were released a couple weeks or a month later (you know, to throw us off :P).

Standard price in Aus is $100. And i refuse to pay more unless i get a decent Collectors edition. Ive only bought 1 CE and that was warhammer online. And i got a tonne of in game perks and exclusives. 2 Books, Beta Key and a nice Box + a minature.

I wasn't planning on buying it anyway, but that price hike is just ridiculous. And what's worse is that all the braindead COD fanboys will still lap it up.

good job i prefer battlefield really, besides, once i get my hands on op flashpoint 2, i doubt i will buy another modern war game til BF:BC 2, and i refuse to pay more than 40 quid for a new game so it looks like i won't be buying anything from activision for a long time, remember guys, we vote with our money, and if this game sells well at this price point a lot of other publishers will follow, no matter how good this game is, you must resist the urge to buy it, for ALL gamers sakes.

If you preorder a game then you will get it for cheaper £45 instead of £55. This is still not a good thing as preodering would usually bring the cost down to £35 - £40.

For most games i wouldn't pay the extra £10 but I could accept the cost if MW2 gave you free maps that they work on after the main game is finished but i don't think that will happen. They will charge you for the extra maps.

Taken from the article -

"I'll buy it because there's no better game than Call of Duty. I know that for a fact."

"once we've got the game you can't stop playing it"

Oh Gary you poor thing, you don't know ****. You're addicted to CoD and will stop at nothing to get yet another +10 pop up on the screen, you're probably a real bastard when playing as well, just like my brother.

Try buying games here in Australia. Always expensive. And no Activision's move is simply greedy, as they beleive the consumer will rush at the IP regardless of the price tag. sad thing is there is truth in this.

This. Other companies aren't as greedy as Activision.

*sniff**sniff* Do i smell a boycott brewing :P I'm just gonna stick with Operation Flashpoint 2 and Splinter cell and i advise everyone to do the same untill Activision realise that we do not depend on an over hyped IP that is basically unchagned!

I'm just pissed that the PC version is 60 dollars too. And that it will never, EVER get a Steam sale.

I honestly don't think the price tag is all that bad. I found a PS1 game at home the other day. Formula 1, its price was 49.99. That must have been 10 years ago - maybe more? However, its cheap to raise the bar just because they know people will buy it and its even cheaper when you consider that the last game was very short in SP. For people that are not going to get this for the MP, its really not going to be worth the asking price. That said, I refuse to pay for map packs. i still don't have the cod4 or waw map packs. i've now stopped playing waw as the map pack maps seem to have leaking into the normal play lists now, they keep coming up when i play. In cod4, this doesn't happen.

Is the price raised here in the United States of America, too? If so, what's the price? I wouldn't buy it even if it was 20 dollars at release (well, maybe... I don't really know, but definitely not 30 dollars), but this is even more ridiculous! I wonder how many people will pirate it.

I already cringe at that price of games. There are so many games I still want to play that I haven't got too that are selling for less. If it's anymore than the standard retail price of games I will not get it until they discount.
