You here this term all the time, but what games do you think fit this mold?

Playing Demons Souls now. Pretty hard to master. But hard to learn too.zaibutzu
Actually the controls are extremely intuitive and other then the complex world and various little things you need to know, its rather easy to learn how to play. Mastering it is a whole nother thing.
Counter Strike is also a damn functional and easy to play FPS, but actually being able to do any better then the obsessive vets who play it daily is also another issue.
I can think of quite a bunch.
StarCraft is one of those ones where you can know how to play, then you can know everything about the game, then you can be amazing at the game, then you can be pro at the game - and by pro I mean you have to be able to stand a chance in one of those Korean tournaments.

Soul Caliber 2. I would have to say fighting games mostly b/c the other genres are more personal taste then anthing else. If you like shooters you pick them up easy and master them quickly, if you like action adventure you do the same......stradegy is probably the most difficult but also doesn't require the improv of a mario game or the quick reflexes in other genres. But fighting games anyone can just pick up and press mostly random buttons and win. lol But if you take the time to learn the moves and plan your attacks and strategies you become a real force to be reckoned with.
