What are games, that have over the years, made you go WOW! Either from the visuals, or the gameplay, or the overall presentation. List the games that made you go wow!, and the reasons why.

Uncharted and MGS4.

MGS4 for the story, some visuals.

Uncharted for the visuals. So freaking beautiful.

On the Ps3,I'd say Metal Gear Solid 4,the AAAA Playstation 3 Exclusive, delivered a Wow moment from start to finish, unmatched Graphics-Audio-Gameplay-Story,it is truly still a mystery how Kojima and his team were able to achieve such a Product. On the Wii,it would be Super Mario Galaxy, aka the only true competitor to Ratchet&Clank.Amazing game it was,if the Wii was in Hi-Def then the game would have received a perfect 10 on GameSpot. On the 360,Gears of War delivered a solid experience. The Graphics were impressive, the gameplay was tight, but the Story was absolutely weak(Something which they have indeed worked on for Gears of War 2).The Online had a lot of problems, but the Single-player campaign-though short-provided a solid Afternoon play through.

hmm

Halflife-1998 There's a part of the game were the gman walks up to a window to fix his tie, I try'd to blow his head off but the window was bullet proof. The military supposedly come to save people, killing scientists. The gargantua. The giant blind plant. The dam. The Ending.

Crysis-2007 The first time you fire it up on your pc and see the visuals. The mountan that start's start's to crumble in the distance is amazing, the spaceship, the sudden change in terrian. The amazing sequence at the end of the game,

System Shock 2-1999 Shodun's reveal

Baldur's Gate: 1998-2001 The characters seem like real people more than any other game I've played

Quake III - 1999 The sheer streamlined ultra pace of it, it's the street fighter II of first person shooters

Metal Gear Solid- 1998 Grey Fox fighting Rex

Stalker- The mutant that pulls your first person perpective into it's own

Call Of Duty-2003 The somber music kicking in at Pegasus Bridge and waving the Russian flag over a tattered Reichstag

Crono Trigger. First RPG I enjoyed and the atmosphere and the story was the wow factor in this case.

Super Mario 64 obvious. First 3D Mario game and it was pure gold from start to finish and its still to this day the best 3D plattformer ever made.

Zelda: OOT also gave me a huge wow feeling just because I had been waiting so long for this game and it was more then I could have ever dreamed of.

Soul Calibur: This game is the reason why I bought my Dreamcast. The graphics for its time was insane!

Gears of War. After a long break in gaming (I skipped the PS2/Xbox generation) I finally got back and bought myself a 360, My first next gen game was GoW and the graphics was just mindblowing.

Super Mario Galaxy: When I first played the game it was just so much fun. The running round planets made me think wow.

Super Mario 64: The first game to be good in 3D.

Zelda Ocarina Of Time: Stepping out onto Hyrule Field and from going from young to adult Link.

Metal Gear Solid 4: The graphics and the controls are really good.

Duck Hunt: Dude, I could shoot a toy gun at a TV and it would register the hit. How cool is that?
GTA (the original): Whoa, open world, do whatever I want (like make the police cars run over police officers during foot chases), create my own fun, etc. Never got that experience since GTA and GTA2.
Sim City/The Sims/Other Maxis Sim games: Wow, tons of control, create my own city layout and run it (SC), create my own people/neighborhood and make relationships rise/fall (TS), allowing the simulation to run on its own to see if I created a self-running city/house/world.

Just to name a few.

For the PS3, Uncharted made me say wow on several occassions.

Xbox 360, Kameo is a wow game for me. Beautiful game, maybe the best on the 360 IMO. Runs and looks great compared to Gears which looks good but has some technical issues.

PC, I don't PC game for now.

Wii, nothing has made me say wow in a good way!

World of Warcraft. I got it a while ago and back then I've never played any other game online, WoW was my first multiplayer online gaming experience. I was amazed at how huge the world was, I couldn't wait to explore all of Azeroth and meet new friends. I spent a lot of time in my noob days just exploring zones I havent been to yet.

The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion. At first I didn't realize how huge the game was. After I got out of the dungeon, I started to learn about the game more, there are so many options, it was a huge improvement over Morrowind. People could talk instead of using a text box, the world was huge and I run into new places and quests everyday, and there are so many options for your character. I'm impressed at how open Oblivion is, and how much freedom there is. You make new friends and enemies by joining factions/groups, most games only have things like people and buildings just for show.

GTAIV. It had a huge city to explore, great graphics and realistic physics. I thought they captured the feeling of a city quite well compared to a lot of previous GTAs and other games that tried to mimic GTA. When you look at Manhattan from Brooklyn at night, it looks a lot like the real thing, the city looks great at night. (I was hoping I would find Yankee Stadium or Shea Stadium.)

Ocarina of Time

Bioshock (the first 5 minutes)

GTA 4

Chains of Olympus

Halo 1 (my first PC quality LAN party, yet on an easily affordable console)

TIE Fighter

KOTOR (never realized how much I could like an RPG)

Jedi Outcast . . . I spent more hours dueling online than I spent playing SWG pre-cu, and both were so many hours it'd probably make me nausious.

Day of Defeat . . . my first foray into WWII shooters, never realized history could be so damn fun until then.

Call of Duty 2 -- first "next-gen" game I played, in the minutes before Battlefront 2 came out. made me forget why I had gone to wal-mart.

I just want to say, I like this new you 100x better. Much more agreeable then all those months ago.

Anyway on topic:

My first MMO, Final Fantasy XI. I had no idea how much fun one could have playing it with friend and when you achieve something in the game, you really feel like you accomplished something.

Phantasy Star IV: First RPG, first time being sucked into a story.

Goldeneye: First multiplayer experience that I could play for hours on end

Halo: First co-op experience that kept bringing me back

Diablo 2: First game that gave me an addiction

Morrowind: First game I put in over 200hour into in one playthrough

Perfect Dark Zero: Rooftop stage on co-op. I've probably replayed that stage only like 15-20 times. The rest of the game was good, but that stage on co-op was such a blast

Final Fantasy VIII: I jumped on the PSX bandwagon late but my first 3D RPG was FFVIII and I simply loved it from beginning to end.

Megaman 3: Even though I started with the first Megaman, I just always remember staying up late with my brothers on a Friday night trying to beat Megaman 3 in one sitting. That game was so much fun back then and still is now.

and finally...

Battletoads: WOW this game is HARD!

That is it for me, I think.

This generation:

  • the first moment was seeing the massive army of trolls in Kameo and getting to knock them over on horse.
  • Stepping out of the sewers in Oblivion for the first time.
  • Swimming from the plane crash and seeing Rapture for the first time in Bioshock.
  • Running around admiring the environments in Uncharted:P
  • Playing that rainy level in Gears, it looked awesome
  • Seeing the pretty pretty smoke effects in Lost Planet

The last time I remember being completely blown away by a game was Medal of Honor Allied Assault on the PC. Anyone who picked up the game when it came out knows what I'm talking about: playing the Omaha Beach level for the first time was awesome.

Halo got me into shooters again. Escaping the last level in the warthog was an epic "wow" moment which threw next-gen in your face.

MGS4 has some awesome wow moments but i dont want to spoil it for anyone. :)

Xenogears - Game has great depth story that is different from most jrpg games out there plus great battle system.

Ninja Gaiden - One of the best action games ever made.

Halo - I was blown away with the campaign.

Far Cry - I found the way they presented the beginning level to be amazing. I thought it was cool how you can swim under water, use the waverunners, and do the sneak kills. Besides what I have listed I thought the game was ok.

Medal of Honor Allied Assault/Call of Duty - Infiniti Ward have always made great single player fps campaigns that are enjoyable and makes you feel like you are actually there.

Gears of War - I was blown away with their gameplay and graphics.

Duke Nukem 3D - One of my favorite fps games out there. I wish there were more games where you can use a Jetpacks or be able to fly. Has cool weapons as well such as the shrink ray and freezethrower.

Half-Life 2 - Not a fan of the game. One of the things I hate about the game is when you have to use the vehicles throughout the game. I found the controls to be horrible on pc and console, but I will give credit where it is due. I was blown away with the graphics when I first played it on pc. It might not be good as Crysis these days, but it can still go head to toe with some of the newer games out there graphically.

Fallout 2 - I was blown away how the game wasn't linear compare to jrpg games. You can pretty much do whatever and go anywhere you want throughout the game.

Shenmue - Found to be a great solid game that was a mix of an adveture and action game.

Metal Gear Solid - Had good story and fun boss fights.

Stracraft - The mp portion of the game was really addictive for me.

Dead or Alive 2 - Fast pace fighting game that had destructible environment where you go from one stage to another.

Quake 2 - Great fast pace mp during it's time.

Dead Rising - Seeing hundreds of zombies in one screen blew me away. I loved how I can use various type of objects such as a dumbell to a soccer ball as a weapon.

Republic Commando - Great game that had pretty good a.i. squad members.

Dark Forces 2 - Great game where you can play as a fps and tps game. Using the light saber and force powers were fun as hell.

Persona 3 - The gameplay was tedious after awhile, but I was blown away with the social interactions you are able to do in this game. It stood out and was different from most jrpg games.

Blood - Loved the unique weapons such as the voodoo doll.

GTA San Andreas - Had a lot of fun memorable missions.

ICO, SOTC, at the amazing work of art these games were. GEOW, Crysis uncharted, motorstorm at teh grafix. Zelda OoT, Sonic 2, Portal at the pure amazingness of the gameplay and Re4 at the amazing journey and crazy stuff that happens.
