Uncharted 4 seems to be one of them. I've rarely seen a game generate so many negative responses from people who ironically never played it. Guess it does kinda hurt not to be able to even try the game. The game starts a bit slow and you don't do much in the first hour or so but once it picks up it never let go and is really a game and not a movie-game.
That said, what other games have rustled jimmies like Uncharted 4? I mean people are pissing and moaning about its scores, sales and technical accomplishments non-stop. It's the perfect example of an exclusive done right.
Any other examples? I'm talking System Wars mostly.
Halo on Xbox. The first console fps that pushed fps genre. Halo 2 went on to improve upon the original. First console fps game that started real console to pc comparisons.
Because it had a lower than expected score? I looked at the review and it got an 8.8 which is pretty good but not enough to generate widespread butthurt. Also not bad enough to be labeled as a flop.

You must not have been there. System wars was a riot of rage, hilarity, account suicides and butthurt after it got that score.

I'm gonna guess you didn't frequent this board in 2006 lol :P
System Wars used to be frequented by thousands, maybe tens of thousands, of posters a day, it was the most active gaming board on the internet, and a substantial portion of that population was Nintendo fans. Twilight Princess had been hyped to high heavens as the successor to OoT, the 'most perfect, greatest game ever made,' was hyped a high 9 (I think 9.8 or above- you must remember, Gamespot used to have the .1 rating scale back then, so every .1 above or below hype counted, it's not like today where a game hyped a 9 getting an 8 is just one notch below the hype on the scale- people had overshot Twilight Princess' hype by 10 points), and widely expected to get a 10. When it got an 8.8, a very substantial portion of SW- far bigger than the total size of the board right now, to be honest- went absolutely ballistic. It was actually a bit embarrassing and sad, but it was entertaining as hell.
I have never known any one game to cause as much outrage on this board, ever- that happened right at the peak of SW's life, and it was beautiful to see.
Look at this image- I know it's from GameFAQs, but it should give you an example of what things were like back then:
Zass's thread's OP may also be a good reference for the state of the board back then
The Uncharted 4 butthurt and outrage is honestly extremely tame compared to back then. I mean, when UC4 got a 10, it took nine hours before the stickied hype tread had more than a hundred additional posts. Back during TP? Holy shit, the board exploded.

It was a game delayed multiple times, years and years in the making. It was the mature Zelda gamers waited for. And Gamespot used to give this label "Editor's Choice" to games that scored 9.0 or above (games were scored on the .1 scale). The gamecube version got 8.9 and the wii got 8.8. So the traditional controller was a little better, but neither version was good enough to get the label. Was a big flop on System Wars.
@charizard1605 Woah that's pretty damn epic. I used to go on GS in 2006 but was never part of the forum until 2010. That page is absolutely glorious. 9 pages worth of threads in under 30 minutes. It's a wonder what happened to System Wars...

Yeah haha, it was absolutely great. I think I was actually one of the fools calling for Jeff's blood back then, before I'd even had a chance to play the game, but I mean, I was 15, I think, so that's my excuse :P

@charizard1605: Yeah I don't see how Uncharted 4 comes close. Its not even causing as much salt as Overwatch from what I have seen. TP was just unbelievable. Words cannot do it justice. We've had some slight flash backs like TLOU scoring an 8/10 but nothing like TP.

Yeah, TLOU was kinda sorta there, but everyone ended up enjoying the game, so it never got as bad. The thing with TP was that once it was out and people played it, a lot of people, maybe even most people, did find it disappointing back then- it only became as beloved as it is now years later lol.
damn, and here my first gaming forum was the Wind Waker forum on Gametalk, back in 2003.

MGS4 - 10/10 and best graphics winner. Lems and Hermits went insane. Sheep cried too , but it didn't matter because we know they weren't old enough to play the game or even afford a PS3 at the time. So much hate , yet so much port-begging , lulz.
Zelda TP - 8.8 and mass Sheep hysteria. Funny and sad.
Killzone 2 - one of the biggest exclusive underdogs in System Wars history if not the biggest. 9/10 at Gamespot , and 90+ Metacritic. People were so sure that it wouldn't even be good , let alone great. And then they had to deal with Superb scores , they couldn't handle it. Mass ownage. Mass Salt. I think this one was tame in comparison to the other two. People must have matured a little bit .Either that or they were banned and left for another SW site.
Twilight Princess. Like Char was saying, the board went fucking nuts when that 8.8 was handed out. Such a great time. I'm a LoZ fan boy too but I wasn't that nuts. I miss those days on the boards.
Halo on Xbox. The first console fps that pushed fps genre. Halo 2 went on to improve upon the original. First console fps game that started real console to pc comparisons.
I would say that was Red Faction, it pre-dates Halo and was an equally impressive FPS.
Another good one was when FF13 was announced as a multiplat. The collective shitfit was hilarious, especially looking back when we all know how meh that game turned out.

Oh, Uncharted 4 salt is nothing, NOTHING compared to Twilight Princess.
Twilight Princess was fucking glorious. This is back when Zelda could do no wrong to people, it was the golden franchise, the it's always amazing, it's always basically perfect, it was Jeff Gerstmann who thought Ocarina was perfect, loved Wind Waker, and hated the people that dissed the art design. He would totally recognize TP is a GOTY contender, sike he thought it was 8.8.
Oh my god that game was GOTY apparently before it was even out. Oblivion and Gears of War had no chance, who fucking cares about Okami? So what if Company of Heroes is a thing? You had to be there.
People have already named the obvious culprits, but I remember Lair and Haze were some great flops. We all would agree GT5, but give it up to T10 with FM3 that game really cemented the series' dominance over GT.
@charizard1605:That GameFaqs flashback..."why girthman gave it a 8.8"..."Jeff was abused as a child"
While I obviously wasn't a member of the site at the time, I was there for the Twilight Princess debacle, and man it was something else. From, personal attacks like photoshopping Jeff's face on to Jabba the Hutt, to making public death threats, I hadn't seen anything like it before. Seriously, the fallout was legendary.
The rage wars between Forza Motorsport and GT 5 was massive, both sides are going at it viciously. Then the cows hyped it to beat FM3. So when FM3 got a 9, that meant GT5 needed a 10 to beat it, but instead got an 8.
It was beautiful.
Looking forward to the upcoming FM Vs GT rage wars.
I stalked Gamespot for a long time but yep...things are so different and quiet now. Kinda sad. wth happened...did everyone get married, have kids or something?

I think no game causes so much salt and arguments as Killzone 2..lol The notion alone of it being a graphics king set hermits on fire, and the fact alone that the game got 9 enraged lemmings even more.

That has to do with the fact that its mentoned about 30 times a day l;ike its the only game on the platform (not far off) people are sick of hearing about it overexposure is a bad thiing...it may be a good game bbut its stll just another standard 3rd person action adventure.
It doesnt hurt one bit not to play it as some of us have no desire to, although i could tell cows would have trouble ever acceptng that fact, we all know how them guys love to pin their hopes and dreams onto one single game every 6 months and even then its to constantly bring up the graphics while never mentioning the gameplay..

IDK about Killzone 2, I'm sure it's probably considered great looking, but I saw Killzone 3 up and running at my local Sony Centre on one of their nice big screens a long while ago and it looked a bit unimpressive tbh. Not bad at all, just 'I don't get what everyone is fighting about' type unimpressive. Maybe it was over hyped.
It was some snow level, I think the guy had a jet pack, Idk it was a long time ago.
Not sure what games rustled the most jimmies usually stay out of that, but the fact the PC makes so many people butthurt here after all thezse years is a glorious reason to still come here and watch the derp :P

Now that 343 took over though :/
Cows are still crying about Halo 5 and that came out last year.
