So why is it that apparently only games where you're all by yourself in lifeless derelict wastelands/ships/post apocolyptic anythings are allowed to be considered atmospheric. Call me a troll but just because you're used to be all alone and scared of everything in real life doesn't mean the only games that are atmospheric are ones where you're all along and scared of everything. Either way... Bioshock, Red Dead Redemption, Halo 3: ODST, Dead Space, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Gears of War, Assassin's Creed, Grand Theft Auto IV all did happen this gen. But it seems any game that doesn't get a tipple A scoring average or doesn't feature you all alone and scared of everything isn't allowed to be considered atmospheric around here. A game world doesn't have any personality if the character talk. Apparently gamers cwont acknowledge the game world if the game doesn't shove it in their face and meet their preconception of what kind of mood an atmospheric game world should have.vashkey
You do know what I mean, when I say "atmosphere" right? AND lets get something straight..NONE of these games were PUSHED IN MY FACE or have AAA scoring at the time that I knew of anyways. As far as I know UNREAL was the 1st of its kind. AND Resident Evil was the 1st of times kind. NEVER seen any scores or reviews before buying them. I bought them when they came out. As for DOOM 3 its just looked cool so I bought it when it came out. I was right..it is cool.
Atmosphere to me are the following...
You can hear the birds NOT just see them
Rain
Water AGAIN hear it, not just see it
Hearing the trees blow around
Dogs barking off in the distance
IF you are quiet, you can hear your character moving slightly
lighting
thunder
things falling and crashing "rocks,walls,ect"
Screaming
UNSEEN monsters growling,ect
Go back and play the 3 games I mentioned. FOR the day, they really rocked it out and made you stop, listen, and NOT want to go around the next corner, or through a door..
YES there are other games, I just mentioned these 3 games..
