Games with TEH ATMOSPHERE

What games have the best atmosphere in your opinion. Some spine-chilling stuff is welcome.

My list:

Half-Life 1 (somewhat surrealistic, creepy music)

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SoC (amazing creepy atmosphere. The game can easily make me depressed for a day. Clear Sky and CoP are not that atmospheric though)

Metroid Prime series (although the third one spoiled the things a bit with it's voice acting)

Half-Life (though it's about the only thing the series does well), Bioshock, Alan Wake, Red Dead Redemption, pretty much every Zelda game, The Darkness, Metroid, Halo, etc.

deus ex. especially the hong kong canals

battlefield bad company 2

the saboteur

None better than Amnesia imo

That would be the obvious choice, but somehow I didn't feel as immersed as in Stalker SoC. Metro felt artificial.

My first choice is SotC. That whole game is just plain depressing. Walking around the world just gives you this feeling of emptiness. Probably the only game that has made me feel this way.

Second choice would be Snatcher. I just got done watching a let's play of that game and my god, it's suspenseful. The world in that game is fully believable and enemy encounters keep you at the ready. It's a shame that I had to watch this because it goes for $100 on eBay. :(

Lately Demon's Souls.

Metroid Prime, Demon's Souls, Alan Wake, and Bioshock come to mind.

EDIT: Can't believe I forgot Penumbra. I actually prefer it more in terms of atmosphere than Amnesia, reminds me alot of THE THING

Stalker games, Amnesia/Penumbra, Deus Ex, Vampire TMB, Metroid Prime, FO3 (Only thing it's really good at), and Metro 2033. Could probably think of some more but I'm tired.

Heavy Rain. i shall stand by this game till the end.

The first two F.E.A.R. games, yes, I liked the second (disappointing sure, but still awesome imo). I just got done with F.E.A.R. 3 and while it was fun, the ambience and slower pace was replaced with loud music and constant gun fights.

Also: Bioshock, The Darkness, Prince of Persia (2008 ), Fallout 3, Dragon Age: Origins, and Arkham Asylum.

Alan Wake, RDR and L4D.

There is not much to add I guess, but I would like to mention Cryostasis at least.

GTA IV had a fantastic city that was oozing with personality; and it's not even the best GTA atmosphere. That would go to Vice City.

Red Dead Redemption is easily the most atmospheric games ever created. Seriously.

Batman: Arkham Asylum was tense and creepy; exactly what an asylum for mentally disturbed criminals should feel like.

Crysis 2, while not really that great of a game, had a great depictation of a devastated New York.

System Shock 2 got me like no other game did,as far as atmosphere goes.Arach666

Nothing to change gameplay or story wise ... just the graphics need a modern spruce up
