I miss Lulu. I hope he's alright.

But yeah, cutscenes. I like them in videogames. Whether they're so bad they're good, or whether they legitimately are good.

Just picked this, but I enjoyed all of them. The great voice acting combined with the mocop made for some pretty damn entertaining cutscenes. And the musiiic.

Games that have cutscenes you can just go back to and watch? Share.

Spoilers might happen. Be safe.

Max Payne 3. As idiotic as its plotting was, it was presented magnificently.

Yeah, Naughty Dog games have some of the best cutscenes. I'd also say Final Fantasy as a series with some of the consistently best cutscenes in gaming.

Final Fantasy I suppose. Although games need to focus more on non RPG gameplay and co-op.

It's old now, but this is the cut-scene that blew me away the most when I first saw it:

Final Fantasy VII (1997)

...And it probably still is the most famous opening cut-scene of all time. The CGI quality has aged, but the direction and cinematography of this cut-scene is still impressive.

Mass Effect 2 and 3 had the best cutscenes. Last of Us is a great choice also.

As for the real-time cut-scene that blew me away the most, it would definitely be this one:

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (2001)

Loading Video...

When this intro was first shown at E3 2000, it blew away the whole game industry. The quality, direction and cinematography of this cut-scene was amazing. This MGS2 intro itself became a killer app for the PS2. And years later, even Marvel copied this scene in their movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Max Payne 1, Diablo 2, Starcraft, The Metal Gear Solid series, Final Fantasy, God of War, Twisted Metal, Devil May Cry, Kingdom Hearts, Warcraft 3, Shadow of the Colossus, Onimusha (especially Onimusha 1 & 3 opening), Resident Evil 2/CV/4, Uncharted 2/3, The Last of Us, Silent Hill 1-3, Conkers Bad Fur, Portal, Castlevania Symphony of the Night, ICO, Heavy Rain, and Vagrant Story come to mind.

Shout out to Persona 3 and 4, Wild Arms, Ninja Gaiden NES (opening scene) and Samurai Seven 20XX.

I'll post the Onimusha 3's short 5 minute award winning opening cutscene since I figure that one might surprise a few people:

Oh man, so many. From FF; to the MGS series, to TLoU, to ME. I still think one of my favourites is Shepard being inducted to the Spectres for just being a pure badass.

You look at something like Hideo Kojima with Metal Gear Solid 2, when he jumps off the bridge, 500 multiple angle glam shots at different speeds.

Then I watch this and see it's how it's properly done. Thank you Monolith, you're abit pish now but you use to make awesome games.

I know the GameCube and PS2 versions of the Splinter Cell games were disliked by those who especially liked the XBOX and PC versions (though I really like playing the first game on GC), but from watching videos of the latter two versions, I think the PS2 and GameCube had better cutscenes (not just with the pre-rendered stuff, but the intro alone made it feel more like a spy thriller).

GC/PS2 intro (be warned that some story content may put hardcore fans of the other versions a bit off):

Loading Video...

XBOX/PC intro (which I think starts off a bit promising, until the rap-rock starts):

Loading Video...

Seeing more vids of at least Chaos Theory and even less of Pandora Tomorrow (namely on G4's Icons/Game Makers as I've yet to play either of them yet) and those games using some pre-rendered cutscenes on even the XBOX and PC versions reminds me of what they did with Dragon Ball Z: Budokai and using cel-shaded visuals on the GC version, rather than the style on the PS2 version, so much so that all versions of later games in the series caught on.

There's no such thing as good cutscenes.

Cutscenes are the thing that is tolerated as long as gameplay has a degree of quality and is the thing that average games are torn apart for.

Not going to get into story or emotion resonance, but from a purely technical standpoint, Blizzard is unmatched with cut scenes.

Dear God I wish they would make a movie.

For me these three are the best.

Final Fantasy X / Final Fantasy X-2
Onimusha 3 / Onimusha 4
Devil May Cry 3 / Devil May Cry 4

And yeah ND makes some good cutscenes. I also like most of the cutscenes from god of war.

Agree. While many people don't like it, and I understand that, Red Alert 3 in particular is gold.

Tim Curry hamming it the **** up the the max, knowing full well he's in garbage.

I'm not a very big fan of cutscenes, but I will say that I always liked the comic book styled cutscenes from the inFAMOUS series. I especially enjoyed them in Second Son when they used them to explain the characters' backstories.
