My most recent example is Mirror's Edge.

It seemed to get lukewarm critical reception and it sounded sort of frustrating so I waited for it to come down in price. I recently learned that it was 17.99 at Gamestop so I bought a copy and...

I like it better than many of the games I bought at a much higher price. I love the game's ambient atmosphere and I love the visceral feel of it. The visuals are extremely unique and vibrant and the new take on platforming is refreshing.

It definitely has its issues (like requiring the player to do complicated jumps in spaces that are too enclosed; the game can be maddeningly frustrating at times), but when you're trying to escape a building while guards with guns mercilessly hunt you down or when you're maintaining a thrilling graceful "flow" across several rootops, it's hard to care about the flaws that much.

So two questions: what do you guys think of Mirror's Edge and what are some games that you got when they hit the bargain bin and ended up loving more than games you bought at more expensive prices?

Bought Zack and Wiki for Wii a few months ago for $12.99 and it's now one of my favourite games this generation.

All the games that I buy at a cheaper price are always much more enjoyable than those that I bought at full price.

Damn, $1.95? That's the best argument for PC gaming that I've ever heard. :P

Well considering a got a ton of games on Steam for 15 bucks and under.... I think there's too many to list. :P And I think all of them were better than Far Cry 2 for 50 bucks. lol

Indeed. Among the best deals I've received. Portal for free was pretty slick too.

I'm not sure what price would have to do with loving a game.

Just another case of your opinion being the only one that should matter. You just might have missed out on the awesomeness of Mirror's Edge had you taken those reviews too seriously.

Mass Effect for $5 on Steam and Overlord for $1.69 on Steam. Was a lot of fun running around with 50 minions destroying and killing everything. Best Overlord moment would have to be the first time one of my minions got drunk. I lost it when it peed.

I didn't say that prince has anything to do with loving a game. It's just that if I drop 60 bucks on a game, I want to be sure about it. Sometimes I'll use review as a basis to approach a game with caution. That doesn't mean I'll let the review deter me all together. People tend to spend a lot of money on things they have a high chance of liking, but not so much on things that they are not so sure about.

I don't take a reviews opinion as the gospel, but I will definitely take it into account.

$20 for Dirt 2 and $20 for STALKER: Call of Pripyat (Steam Loyalty Promo FTW)

I should add that I got both for those prices when they were still fairly fresh releases.

Just so you know you can find Mirror's Edge for around $10 at a lot of places these days. Plus, you get it new, not used.

I want to participate in this thread but i just cant think of anything. Mostly because when i buy games they are most often in the same price range. I mean the most expensive games i have purchased this year are FFXIII for $110AU and SMG2 for $69AU. pretty much everything else has been ranged at $50-60AU

Well I got Batman: Arkham Asylum for $40 and it was one of the best games of 2009 easily. That's all I can think of, I usually don't buy games for that cheap, just buy the ones I really want when they come out and then occasionally buy the rest later.

EDIT: Wait what am I saying... I just bought Machinarium for $10 and Civilization IV for $15 during a sale on Steam and I liked those more than most $60 games I buy.

True. But the question on the theory that people will spend money money on things they think they'll love and people spend less money on things they think are risky.

Good point. I guess I just got the feeling that this thread was trying to downplay games that are currently full price.

Dark Sector and Gun. Gun had low end graphics but was a extremely fun game, while Dead Sector was a blast up until the last level for me. It was very hard at the end! Those are two that I feel are very underated.

I brought BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger for a relatively cheap price at an old game store, and I have to say I enjoyed this game more than the other fighting games that are available.

I too bought Mirrors Edge for $5, but I was not too impressed. Like many first games this generation (AC, ME, de Blob), it has a lot of potential, but they really dropped the ball in some areas. Hopefully it gets a sequel.

And I just bought DK JB for $10, fun so far, but my palms really hurt.

I almost always buy my games used (because I tend to not be able to afford games upon their release). So I'm always buying games for cheap. The latest was Front Mission 2, which I believe was under $20. What an excellent game. The best deals I may have got were for Xenogears from gamestop, for I don't know how much (but definitely a fraction of the price to buy off of Ebay or amazon used). And Deep Fear for Sega Saturn for just $4. I cracked the jewel case though. It's really disappointing.

When I saw the thread title, my kneejerk reaction was to post my compliments to Mirror's Edge, which I picked up for $20 about 8 months ago. Since that's been covered, I'll say which game I like it way more than, and that game is ME2. Can't say I'm a fan, really, of Bioware's Epic, but am a fan of Zero Punctuation's review of it. Ha, what a tosser.
