My most recent example is Mirror's Edge.
It seemed to get lukewarm critical reception and it sounded sort of frustrating so I waited for it to come down in price. I recently learned that it was 17.99 at Gamestop so I bought a copy and...
I like it better than many of the games I bought at a much higher price. I love the game's ambient atmosphere and I love the visceral feel of it. The visuals are extremely unique and vibrant and the new take on platforming is refreshing.
It definitely has its issues (like requiring the player to do complicated jumps in spaces that are too enclosed; the game can be maddeningly frustrating at times), but when you're trying to escape a building while guards with guns mercilessly hunt you down or when you're maintaining a thrilling graceful "flow" across several rootops, it's hard to care about the flaws that much.
So two questions: what do you guys think of Mirror's Edge and what are some games that you got when they hit the bargain bin and ended up loving more than games you bought at more expensive prices?
