Games you enjoyed despite being considered having high difficulty level...

not necessarily the hardest.. but what are the most difficult games you enjoyed despite the challenge?

Diddy Kongs Quest

The first thing that comes to mind was the first Rayman

That was one ***** of a game, but it was still pretty fun. Getting to the last boss was impossible though, i completely gave up :P

I've played quite a few bullet hell games, and they are pretty difficult, and I don't really want to name them all..

But I'll just say R-Type 1/2 because it's the hardest non bullet hell SHMUP I've ever played.

Contra III: Alien Wars Snes, I still haven't beat it and I started playing it a LONG time ago:

Ninja Gaiden on Nes... I was maybe 7 or 8 yo when I played it and felt so hard it was like a chore at times, but I remember loving the visuals and gameplay so I stood by it until y finished it several times...

dunno that ive played any i just know it wasnt "i wanna be the guy".

the xbox ones petty tough too but aside from some boss battles not too bad. (atleast NG2)

Contra (Especially Hard Corps.)

Castlevania (NES, Genesis)

Metal Slug (Any)

Devil May Cry (1-4... its weird that they never made a 2. AMIRITE?)

Ninja Gaiden (NES-xbox 360)

Right now, Shadow Compex on insane is pretty tough but very enjoyable.
