Have you ever sworn off a game but ended up buying it anyways, either down the road or at launch? What made you say you'd never get it, and what was it that lead you to purchasing it?

This one is really fresh for me. I said I wouldn't buy the Elden Ring DLC, mostly because it just seemed like more of the same without it being different enough to justify a purchase, but with recent articles of people whinning about the games newest DLC being too hard, I'm going to be puchasing it. So, I have to repurhcase Elden Ring on Steam, and then buy the DLC. :)

It ain't no secret, but Demon's Souls used to be that game. Used to laugh at how bad it looked and how robotic animations were, but it ended up being the game that began it all, the game that made me discover the best developer that exists, or have ever existed in the gaming industry.

Super Mario Galaxy.

No, I'm not kidding. Still own that PAL version from the UK when I lived there, while the US version I have is from 3DAS.

I hated the concept of Mario in space, but I somehow forgot that was already in one of my favorite Mario games (Land 2: Six Golden Coins), so I feel stupid feeling that way.

Never say never, as I always say. I normally say I'll buy later such as Shadow of the Erdtree.

Thought I was going to pass on the Elden Ring dlc since I was tired of the game. Then all of a sudden I got the urge to play again, so I got the dlc. :P

Can't really think of anything. I generally will give any type of game a shot. But once I have decided I don't like a specific IP or a specific type of game then I generally won't buy other games like it.

Since this is Elden Ring related: I tried both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 2 to see if I would enjoy the games. I did not. Not my cuppa. So I won't be buying any more of those types of games. I can see the appeal...it's just not something that appeals to me. No amount of peer pressure or FOMO is going to get me to try another of those types of games.....well probably not :P.

Battlefront 2. I didn't want to support that game or ea for multiple reasons, but got a star wars itch, and it was on sale for $7.50.

I still regret it.

Phantasy Star Online Episode 3: C.A.R.D. Revolution. Who was asking for a PSO sequel that replaced the real-time combat with a turn-based card game? No one, me included. But years later (pretty recently really) curiosity got the better of me, and I did give it a shot. It's actually a pretty cool game. Very unique battle system, asymmetric gameplay that's mostly well balanced. Had a much better time with it than I expected.

Can't think of too many. Probably some impulse buys here and there, but I genuinely try to just stick to games I'm interested in, and I try not to be close-minded and swear off any particular games lol.

lol same.

I think I maybe gave it an honest try, maybe 10-20 hours, and it just felt so empty. So soulless.

I think TC ask for a refund on Steam and when the Expansion came out for it, TC had to buy the main game again just to play the Expansion aka re-purchase.

@davillain: What is Steams refund policy then? I mean you can't play the game and beat it then ask for a refund right?

And if the OP played a little didn't like it and got a refund then buying the dlc is not very smart because you have to get to a certain point in the game to "unlock" the dlc (that a story on its own) before you can play it.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land. I hated the demo -- I thought it was too easy. I'm glad I bought it though. It turned out to be a great game.

At one point around Assassin's Creed Unity I had said I was done with AC... The diminishing returns had more than run it's course and I couldn't imagine buying another game. I was happy letting the franchise go away like I had done with cod. Thanks for the memories but see ya!

Turns out I played Odyssey all the way through and even had fun with it!

It further turns out it's not that I'll never play some franchises again, but rsther just not gonna be on the front edge of releases. I'll play what I want when it strikes me.

Playing Marvels Midnight Sun now. Never planned to get it, for the simple reason that I never heard of it. But it has perhaps my favourite combat system ever. Well, hard to compare to real-time, bit it is super fun and satisfying 😎!!!

Haha, AC is also my ”They won’t fool me again”-franchise 😆. But at the end of the day the unique locations draws me back in. So I played Mirage last fall and loved it!

Way back in the day it was Zelda Windwaker , I wanted my "realistic edgy" graphics so i refused to buy Cartoon Zelda ... a few years later when i realized i was being such an insecure little kid, i finally gave it a chance ... damn, one of the best Zelda games ever.

Call of Duty...every damn year. I usually buy like 4 of the Ultimate versions so myself, both my kids, and a buddy overseas can all play together. I always say "this game is shit, and I'll give it one more chance" sigh....

That said BO6 is the sequel to Cold War and its easily one of my favorite CoD games of all time so I'm hoping it brings the same vibe. Give me 2v2 and 3v3 tourneys, prop hunt, one in the chamber, sticks and stones, SnD, and other awesome game modes like CW and even if I sucks I'll always have something to do.

It's sad that CoD is about the only shooter still kicking after all these years. I miss SOCOM, Ghost Recon, Medal of Honor, Timesplitters, Syphon Filter, Splinter Cell.. the list goes on and on.

I am looking forward to omnimovement and sliding in any direction though.. hopefully the movement cuts down on the camping... but who the hell am I kidding? lol.

I buy entirely way too many games, but something something about rainy days and all that nonsense.. heh.

Persona 5. I borrowed it for free for a couple of days and didn't really expect much from it. I nearly quit after the first hours. But I stuck with it, and it's one of the best games I have played in recent times. Needless to say I decided to buy the game.

Tears of the Kingdom comes to mind... I couldn't get into BOTW, so I always said I wouldn't go near TOTK either. But I ended up buying it for some reason and regretted it again. Just not my style of Zelda.

You didn't buy it "for some reason". You bought it because Nintendo funneled you into buying it, that's their strategy for some time now. When you offer no variety for a year straight, and then you release zelda, everyone has no chance but to jump of the occasion and buy the game. Its sad, and i believe this is illegal in Australia.

A Bethesda game after playing and hating Skyrim. Recently bought and played Fallout 3 and 4 and thought they were great. Might give Skyrim another chance. I was admittedly a CD Projekt / Witcher fanboy at the time which might have clouded my judgement. I actually really enjoyed Oblivion on Xbox 360 back in the day

After Oot, Majora's and the Gamecube tech demo, everyone was eager and hyped for the new realistic Zelda, so Windwaker was a huge disappointment, i even remember the Nintendo magazine i used to read, which were big Nintendo fans, were also dissatisfied with the reveal, also I was like 15 or 16, you know ... the edgy age. But yeah, in hindsight, Nintendo was right all along with the game and the visual style.

A lot of the ass creed games.. for some reason I own origin, odyssey and Valhalla! Odyssey was pretty good imo and played that for 40-50 hours before getting sick of it! The two others I maybe have like 10 hours combined in and are just terrible games imo! No idea why I keep wasting my money on Ubisoft🙄🙄

Hates mario platformers, somehow bought Mario 3D land on 3DS and to nobody's suprise.... its F!cking trash. Holishit who allow these shits to be made zero innovation since from NES days. Only nintendo fans willing to accept this absolute garbage of a game. Managed to get to get to stage 6 something the desert area with that snake in 3-4 years attempting to play it.

Pretty cool 3D effect tho it was the main reason I bought it.

WWE 2K22

Last time I played a wrestling game was 2K14. I bought the game on launch and was really surprised at how 2K fixed everything terrible about WWE 2K20 from reviews and rebuild the new engine and graphics.
