The story of Flower begins in a lifeless-looking black and white apartment, which acts as your main menu. There are no game elements to detract you from this world, and it's a stark contrast to the levels that you'll venture through. Other than the icons that will fade in and out to remind you how to tilt the Sixaxis controller, you won't find traditional menus asking you whether or not you'd like to load or start a new game. Only one button is needed for Flower, and that's all the game will tell you: hold any button. This will let you enter what we think is the mind of the single flower that sits by the windowsill. Once you enter the game, your intuition will guide you through vast landscapes, and before you know it you'll be weaving around windmills and zipping through dark caverns as if it were second nature.

A wide-open field that extends as far as the eye can see awaits you and allows you to practice. With the Sixaxis, it feels very much like a flight simulator, except instead of a plane, you have a trail of flower petals. In the field, you'll come across other flowers that are highlighted by a glowing halo, making them relatively easy to see as you're scouring the landscape. By touching these colorful dandelions, you'll eventually trigger a cutscene, which is the only indicator that you're progressing. In this particular level, it looks like you're bringing color back into the world by collecting petals, so it helps to head toward the dullest patch of land in the sea of green. It's important to also play close attention to the sound, because the music heightens the experience with its lulling melodies, and as you touch other flowers (not necessarily the ones with the halo), you'll hear the wistful sound of wind chimes.

Flower continues to capture our attention as we glide gracefully through the gentle hills. Its gorgeous visuals are breathtaking, and it's nice to be able to enjoy a game without the stress of dying or achieving objectives. There are simple objectives in Flower, but there is no reason to rush. We were told that in the final build, there will be trophies to obtain, for those who need something to go on. The preview build let us experience only a few levels, but we're eagerly waiting for other stages to fly through. Flower will trigger different feelings for everyone who plays or watches it--whether it's tranquility or nausea (people prone to motion sickness beware). The game is a wonderful piece of art that you can enjoy by watching and listening. We'll keep a close eye on this budding PlayStation Network game and update you with additional information as it becomes available. Be sure to check out our latest screenshots and gameplay videos as well.

I have been watching this game some time now. It's nice to have games like this, so calm-relaxing.

Any release date for this PSN title? It's been announced for a while now, but no date has been announced yet. I'm definitely interested in this game, as I a weakness for games portraying themselves as art (PixelJunk Eden, FlOwer, FlOw, Okami, etc.).

Looks very good but not for me.

I tried that pixlejunk eden game, after about 40 mins I regretted getting the game.

I generally dont buy DL games, though I want to get supersonic acrobatic rocket powered battle cars, the demo of that is cool.

Wow, that sounds horrible. So you guide a freaking flower through bland environements with the Sixaxis controls? It's like a flight simulator, except there's no objectives and it's boring as ****? GameSpot tried to make the boring elements sound fun, but it just sounds awful. No way in hell can a game this shallow can possibly hold my attention. I don't get what people mine by "it's so calm and relaxing." Go into a garden and write a poem or something. Anyway, looks absolutely terrible.

Its a different experience then most games, but that doesn't make it bad. And why exactly can't video games be relaxing? Obviously you haven't playedMusic Catch.

its an objectiveless game though, with no story, just like eden and flow it will be a five min wonder.

See, I like that kind of game. Games let you be creative are all great in my book.

But hey, we all have different tastes.

Stop trolling. A game doesn't have to have Mario or Master Chief in it to BE A GAME. If you don't like the game why are you posting in this thread?

I can't express my opinion on something? This is System Wars. We thrive on differences. That's what makes everything what it is. I have the right to tell you why I feel Flower will suck. There are no objectives, and all you do is fly around with the Sixaxis in bland environments. If you like it, good for you. I'm just saying that this wouldn't hold my attention for very long.

Maybe for you, but for me a game like this would be great. I like games like this. Recently I downloaded A Kingdom for Keflings on XBLA and love it to death.

You should try Endless Ocean. It's less pointless than Flower, at least.

I don't think Flower lets you be creative in any, way, shape, or form. You're a flower that flies around. How creative can you get? Little Big Planet is a very creative game, as well as Drawn To Life. They let you create stuff, and, well, I don't have to explain it because you guys all know what Little Big Planet is like. Drawn To Life is kind of different, but the same creative concept.

You'll find more nature more exciting in real life. The only price you pay is that you can't play as a Flower that does nothing. I hate to sound ignorant, but I'm going to, anyway: This game is so uninteresting and dull looking to the point where I can't even understand how someone could possibly enjoy this objective-less, do-nothingness nature of the game. I may not like Gears of War, but I can at least understand the satisfication one gets from playing the game. But this... Maybe it's just that GameSpot didn't do a good job explaining everything, but from that preview, it seems like the most pointless and boring game around. No offense to anyone that likes it. I realize I sounded kind of like a jerk...

Cool. You should try out interactive screensavers as well.
