I think they are judging the game by its popularity rather than the actual game itself. However some of the reviews suited the games that were popular, while other great games were brought down simply because they weren't selling millions or weren't that popular.

Jugding by high/good scores it gave to mediocre Wii games I think its gone soft... Malta_1980
Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl deserved their review and score. I am not saying that you mean Super Mario Galaxy or Super Smash Bros. Brawl when you said "mediocre," I am simply just saying that Super Mario Galaxy or Super Smash Bros. Brawl are not mediocre titles, not offending you in anyway.

[QUOTE="grandlx2"]When gertsmann (spelling?) left, a lot of this site's credibility left. I assumed that all those willing to sellout stayed. So since they were trying to sell reviews, i'm assuming they are doing it now. What's to stop them? The writers with dignity for their professions already left. Only sellouts $$$ stayed. Or those who really can't leave and need the $$$ from this company to survive.Kevin-V

So--just to clarify--you think Aaron, myself, Justin, Brian, and our freelancers are sellouts, rather than believing in a site that fantastic people like Greg and Jeff (and existing staff like Ricardo and Ryan M.) worked so hard to build?

i think it must be weird for the editors that stayed. Jeff got fired for telling the truth about a game, and that must put the pressure on the remaining editors (that didnt leave because of the jeff thing) to give nicer scores. personally, i think the reviewers on this site have lost most if not all of their integrity

its sad the things you hear people say. alot of these people worship Jeff yet bash this site constantly ( yet there still a member?) but since jeff and other old staff made this site what they are im sure they would feel upset hearing this stuff said.

anyway i think im starting to like 5 star ratings better. reviews arnt meant to be taken as seriously as system wars makes them to be.

It's not their scores.

It's the text in the reviews. They write it like an ad.

Considering THPS3 got a 10 back in 2001. No. Yet more recently Metroid Prime 3 only got a 8.5.

Well some examples on Gamespot reviews before the staff changes were Zelda TP and Metroid Prime 3. Gamespot scored them lower than everyone else and were much harder on the games flaws. Now Gamespot has scored games like No More Heroes and Final Fantasy CC higher than most other sites. In Fact other sites kinda trashed these games. About a year ago it was almost automatic that GS would score lower than IGN. By .5 or more. Now it almost seems as if they are handing out AAA. Just my observation.

Jeff was a critic and people hated him for that.

you got to remember, under rating is just as bad as over rating. if you over rate, a gamer goes out and buys a game they think is better than usual of which they find it is not so good.

if you under rate, a gamer will think a game is not that good and may not buy it and hence may be missing out.

Those who claim under/over rated games actual never played those games to make such claim.
