I think you're thinking of Microsoft the only thing they have is Kinect, Halo, Gears, and Forza.;)Nintendo is just a niche company. Irrevelant to most gamers.

Nintendo are nostalgia. All the fans of Nintendo are fans because of nostalgia and nothing more and the few new fans they made with the Wii they lost them to Kinect. I know how it feels because I already went through that phase but you guys have to realize that the Nintendo we have now is not the same Nintendo from the Snes days. Â Just because you were stuck with a N64 or GC playing Ocarina of Time and Smash Bros all year long doesn't make them good consoles, is just that you had nothing else.
Objectibely speaking, every single Zelda 3D game is like playing an expansion pack of the older ones but somehow they still score triple across the board everytime! That right there is nostalgia at its finest. Mario Galaxy? Not even that good! Not only does it look downright ugly at times, the tacked-on feel of some of its controls, its utter lack of a compelling story and super easy difficulties makes this game the most overrated thing I have played in my life. Not even joking with this. Zelda TP and SS? More overrated crap. Metroid Prime Trilogy? The only good one was the first... Smash Bros? Same crap, you can't even tell them apart. Mario Kart? They are all the same since the Snes. And so on... Nintendo are nostalgia.
If its not broken don't fix it.
I guess its there fault for catering to the people that tend to want certain stuff I guess, just based off the fact that numbers talk. Companies like numbers, so its only natural they will cater to who gives them those numbers. I'm not going near the subjectivity of wanting new franchises and what not with a ten foot pole (although I agree that they should make a new strong IP or two).
Here's how it goes:
1. Nintendo releases a game
2. Fans buy game.
3. Fans say they want more.
4. Nintendo brings more of the series.
5. Fans are annoyed that they didn't get something else.
Honestly it must be insufferable to cater to the entitled every year.
Interesting video from gamespot as they talk about how Nintendo's problem is that they are focusing way too much on nostalgia to make games and recreating games over and over again

well no shit Sherlock, every review is a matter of opinion.[QUOTE="Blabadon"] Get over the Fire Emblem and LM reviews dude. They're simply a matter of opinion.Shinobishyguy
My point is they're consistently underrating every major 3ds exclusive. If it were just a few isolated cases I wouldn't pay it any mind, but this has been happening multiple times in a row. Hell the system's going on three years and it still hasn't gotten one AAA here.
None of them deserved it aside from Fire Emblem and (maybe) LM 2, but I haven't finished that one yet to comment fully on it.
I do understand what your getting at, but maybe they have similar feelings to how others feel about them, except slightly harsher. It is their opinion after all.
meanwhile you can't wait for FFX redone in HD...finalstar.
lawlessx
huh?? you should complain to GS not me, i only sharing what GS is saying.
besides last time i played FFX was most likely over 7 years ago... shut up and blame GS!
They do rely on nostalgia a lot but it's pretty much the only thing that's working for them right now so they shouldn't quit.
I don't think it is Nintendo that is all about Nostalgia it is the people that hate on Nintendo for claiming they do nothing but reuse the same IPs while ignoring quality new IPs by claiming it isn't Zelda, Mario, Pokémon, or Smash Bros. so it must suck.
[QUOTE="Shinobishyguy"][QUOTE="Blabadon"] Underrating the 3DS exclusives according to whom? What would count as a few isolated cases? Maybe they just feel the 3DS doesn't deserve any AAA games and the Vita does because of the quality of their games.BlabadonSo when the 3ds goes an entire generation without a single AAA here (but plenty on metacritic, other sites etc) you're not gonna notice that something is up? Not at all, there's always a lengthy review written regarding what the issues were for the games at hand. Just because these guys are critics doesn't mean they have to line up with other critics, or even anywhere near them. If you disagree with the review's contents, that's another matter entirely, but the scores really mean nothing to me if someone feels that way. Also, lol at saying that something's up when 3DS games are still getting high scores here.
Well I don't buy games that get 7.5's on any random site. Thats just not my style and shows how crummy they are. Those reviews bum me out too much.
It makes no sense to stop using their established ip. zeroyaoi
They are basically saying that since they been playing with Mario and Zelda for over 25 years and seeing them again and again is just unappealing anymore but they do say that the games are fun
I posted a pretty annoyed response towards the video on the live chat. Â
But I will repeat my statement that the video was so pretentious. Â The arguement had such a false thesis, it made the video pointless. Â
You changed your sig.And they will probably give the next 3D Mario game a 9.5/10. So what are they going on about?
RyanShazam
They have quality IPs with installements that prove themselves time and time again, I dont see a huge issue BUT they are whoring out Mario hard right now. I know its thier go to series when they need to get things moving on a system but its getting out of hand.
New Super Mario Wii U
New Super Mario Bros 2
New Super Luigi
Mario and Donkey Kong 3D
Mario Party 3DS
Mario Tennis 3DS
Mario Golf 3DS
Paper Mario 3DS
Mario and Luigi 3DS
Mario Kart U
Super Mario Bros U
If all mario Installments were consistent AA-AAA games I would have much of a problem but they arent.
Man last gen (or the gen before that idk what gen we are in now...) all I did was play Nintendo games... Gamesube, gameboy, DS, etc. And all of the nostalgia is still with me.. Yet I absolutely despise Nintendo's products now... Don't really know why.

I don't have an issue with them not liking the games, I just find their reasoning weak. Granted I haven't played them for 25 years, but still it's not like we're playing the same game over and over. You changed your sig. Yeah. Im gonna mess around with it for a bit.[QUOTE="RyanShazam"]

Most of those games only share the characters and the Mario tittle. Thank goodness for video reviews.Yeah thats the only way to do it. Even 8's are pushing it, so it needs to be AAA or nothing. Its just not cool to have any differing opinions from mine otherwise I go crazy.

Let's just forget the fact some Sony fans want a new Crash game.
Let's just forget the fact that some M$ fans want Rare to make a new Killer Instinct or Banjo.
Face it guys, Nostalgia sells and sometimes that argument with Nintendo I feel like Nostalgia has nothing to do with it.
Heck I know Metroid for me has nothing to do with Nostalgia consider I didn't actually start playing that series till the Wii came out.

I expected Tom, I saw Tom. Is this McShea? It's bad that I expected him in something negative for Nintendo.
You know what their Nintendo Direct did? Made me not buy a Vita this year. When I saw LttP2 and Bravely Default (lol EU > NA) I saw there was no reason to buy a Vita this year. Also, Mario and Luigi RPG's are amazing, Mario Golf looks surprisingly good.
Better than expected.

AAA? Please. The only games I've played this generation are GTA4, MGS4, and SMG2.
As funny as this all is, sometimes their reviews are poorly done, the Pokemon B2 and W2 was a case of judging it based on past games not on its own merits.
Yeah there are some awkward ones to be sure, but everyone really needs to remember that they don't represent anything but just another opinion. No matter how awkward it is, or how wrong and misinformative, try not to take it personally nor judge anything off of reviews without further research.

I haven't seriously played a Nintendo game since about 1997 and I don't feel like I have missed anything.
Since 1997? You missed a bunch of AAAE and AAAAE games and Game of the Year titles. I would say you missed out alright.Intelligent Systems made Pushmo and Crashmo (But it is on the eShop). I don't know what Hal Labs is up to currently. I'm pretty sure dedicated fans (myself included) would be pissed if the Fire Emblem got canned. The only poorly done review that I can remember of them recently is Natural Selection 2, to the point where the game got a new review. I remember being asshurt about the Black 2/White 2 review and then actually reading the review and seeing that the reviewer backed up his/her points quite well, even if I didn't disagree with them. I don't really see how the reviewer (I'm just going with Ashton from now on) judged the game based on past games in any way that wasn't correct, especially because
1) Ashton liked the past games and said how they did stuff better than this game did, which is the mindset of how a millions of buyers were going with when buying Black 2/ White 2
2) It's a numbered sequel. It pretty much has to be judged off Ashton's past Pokemon games' experience in order to make its improvements seem significant at all. If it wasn't, some people (not saying you) would be mad about how the reviewer never played Pokemon before and is reviewing it.
3) Despite its numerous changes, the Pokemon series still stays very strong to its core. Judging it off past games is only logical in a series as unique as Pokemon.
These are really my personal opinions on it, but I'd say they're more than logical given the game.
1) They can mention it, but if I recall, they said a lot about how the other games were better. I don't even care if they didn't like it, they are reviewing that game, not those ones.
2) I don't think direct sequels should be reviewed based on their predecessors on anything, but story. Would you judge DMC 3 on its merits or how bad 2 was?
3) You can refrain from quality comparisons in a review, it isn't spontaneous, you can make changes to avoid those sorts of things.
I disagree.
Personally I haven't even finished the game, it feels too similar to the 1st, I like it, but I'm a bit burned out on the world. So I see where they're coming from, but I just don't see how it is relevant to the quality of the game, aside from directly addressing people who played those games, "If you've played the game it might feel a bit to similar to it (Black and White)" and then moving on. Again, it was a while back, but I remember them going on about it far too much.
Because running a successful business should always come second to making a niche group of entitled people happy.Zeviander
