With overall GOTY looking like its a wrap this year, and many thread talking about GOTY, I'd thought I'd start a more interesting and debatable argument.

What will RPG of the year overall, and RPG over the different platforms look like this year and what do you think will be the outcome. There have been some serious RPG's put out this year, and I think its going to be a hotly debated topic.

Just to throw a few ideas out there, I think Borderlands will be nominated for RPG of ther year overall, and on all platforms.

I think Dragon Age will be nominated for RPG of the year overall, and on all platforms. I think the PC version of Dragon Age will win RPG of the year. I think the 360 version of Dragon Age will win Xbox 360 RPG of the year.

I think Demon's Souls will be nominated for RPG of the year overall. I think Demon's Souls will win PS3 RPG of the year.

Yes, its all speculation, but for some reason, I see this as very likely.

I think it'll come down DA and DS. I'm not really far enough in either game to make a conclusive choice though. DA has the better story but DS has better gameplay in my opinion and I guess gameplay wins over story so I guess I'll say DS.

It will most definitely come down to Demon's Souls and Dragon Age: Origins. Haven't had a chance to play Demon's Souls yet, but Dragon Age is quite awesome.

dragon age will win it. I'm actually interested to see if dragon age can beat out uncharted 2 for game of the year. they both scored 9.5's and it would be hilarious to see SW go boom if uncharted 2 doesn't get GOTY.

I think Demon's Souls will win PS3 RPG of the year.evilross

You must be expecting them to go pretty in depth with those categories. There was only RPGOTY last year.

DAO will win.

The nominees will be: DAO, DS, Mario & Luigi, Devil Survivor, and Torchlight.

The 9.5 god RPG known as Dragon Age will win. Demon's Souls has no chance against the godly competition.

Dragon Age Origins for PC will probably win. Demon's souls will be runner up most likely.

Godly? Thats a very stong choice of wording considering the game.

I'll be the first to say that Dragon Age is Bioware's best work creating a game from scratch, without a ruleset or established universe to back them up. I'd also say it is there best work developing the game on there own, without 2nd party help... Yes I do like it. Bioware proved themselves still up to the task with Dragon Age.

However, Dragon Age is no where near the quality of writing and gameplay as Baldur's Gate or Baldur's Gate 2, that Bioware worked on with Black Isle, or Icewind Dale, and Icewind Dale II that Black Isle did on there own.... Or Planescape: Torment, another Black Isle infinity engine game. Dragon Age is very good, but the way its presented and the focus on characters more then story, the random and meaningless side quests that lose focus, and the sometimes suspect ruleset keep this game far from the all time RPG hall of fame.

Is it great? YES. Is it a step up from Bioware's last two games? HELL YES. Is it up to par with the Infinity Engine games? NO.

It would be a sad day if Dragon Age did not win. I just beat the game moments ago and cannot recall the last time I have felt so attached to a game world. I was actually sad to see the credits roll after over 40 hours of gameplay. Such an epic, climactic, incredibly immersive experience. I am ready to start another origin, do it all over again and see where some different choices will take me.

40 hours? Thats sounds almost like a speed run to me, lol.

I got 27 hours into the game and my last world map report said 21%. Given that pace I was expecting about 100 hours in-game, close to BG2 w/ Throne of Bhaal. But I talk to everyone, and spend time in camp BSing with the party members so maybe I'm just slow.

No, I actually took my time, despite not doing all of the side quests from the Chantry, Blackstone Irregulars, ect. Sure, I could have squeezed out a lot more, but I in no way rushed it. No matter, it leaves me plenty left to do when I start my next origin. Which is as it should be, beings this is a game that is meant to played through over and over due to the Origin stories and the many paths as a result of C&C.

Having played and beaten both games, I can say that Dragon Age very much is deserving of it. Demon's Souls definitely qualifies, but there is far more 'role playing' to Dragon Age by quite a wide margin. Not to mention the story to back it up.

Depends on how you define 'role-playing' , although I will readly agree that Dragon Age has the much deeper story, character development, and world.

I have 4 main characters in Demon;s Souls, and well over 200 hours between them. All are very different, and some things I have done on some toons, I would NEVER do on other toons, not only for RP reasons, but because it would ruin my world tendancy and mess up my character build. You build a certain way, and you have to play to your build. Its a very different, but innovative and interesting take on roleplaying.

But some nights you just drink a few brews and feel mean, and you break into everyones world you can and make their night hell... yea, I made a toon just for that. lol

Both games are great, and in very different ways. I have enjoyed playing both of them a great deal this year on my PS3. Great time to be a RPG gamer.
