Gamespot used to be about CRITICAL reviews

The new review staff on this site post Gerstman, is soft.

Now it's about giving every game either an 8, 9, or 10.

Bring back the decimal point system as this site is becoming like IGN where every relatively known title is guaranteed to get atleast an 8 from here.

Mario Odyssey is a guaranteed 10, just on hype a lone.

Divinity 2 is a 10 at least.

And how the does the much hyped mass effect play into that thinfoil hat theory?

Or Could it be that most well established developers who gets AAA budget usually ends up with something good(8+) with a few exceptions like mass effect?

Not to mention
Agents of Mayhem got a 4, matterfall got a 6, Fifa got a 7, ARK survival got a 6, knack 2 got a 7, ARMS got a 7, Prey got a 6, etc

They're pretty bad at reviews, review scores in general are bad. Can't take it seriously when they give something like Uncharted 4 a 10 while a masterpiece like Prey gets a 6.

At least Zelda and Divinity both deserves those 10s. There's a good chance Super Mario Odyssey will be deserving as well.

Wish there were sites that review reviewers for game sites. These reviews and reviewers are basically influencers. But overall I think getting to try out the game and doing your own research is the ultimate purchase decision maker.

As for GS reviewers & reviews, I don’t even know or look at who’s reviewing the games. And when I do have a look see, it’s reviewers I never heard of. There’s more GS users here longer than some of these reviewers. But whatever, these reviews are just opinions and some people are better on spotting out BS opinions than others.

I don't pay attention to reviews, they are only good for the lulz here.

Between EA access, games with Gold, Games pass, free play days, beta's, and demos I can practically try out any game I want before I buy it or get it free or through a service.

They review game quality not fake hype.

I haven't cared much about their numbered scores since last Gen, it makes no difference to me. I still read their reviews, often skimming through them, and I find them very inconsistent often neglecting to mention features and modes.

Ultimately they represent the opinion of 1 single individual and that is all they are. Some of them are great, others not so much. I do a quick overview of several sites to get a general idea but in the end ill buy whatever I want. Unfair reviews happen everywhere not just on Gamespot, there is no point focusing on Gamespot the way I see it, been like this for a while .

Yeah, it used to be IGN would give the more positive review and Gamespot would give the more critical review. But both sites have shuffled through staff and different people have different opinions. Such is life.

Well the site is a shell of its former self and Danny even said after he left that half the staff now arent even gamers.

My gawd these people keeps whining on a high score, low score whatever these whiners always exist. If a game got a high score, it means gamespot, IGN, blabla got paid. If a game got a low score, it means the reviewer must be fired.

I remember back when a girl reviewed GTA V on gamespot and got a 9. And people went crazy asf just when she gave in a 9. They want to fire her and made a petition out of it.

But how do we know if the game is 9.5 quality, or more of a 9.6?

I prefer the decimal point system that they had before but I think that their reviews are just fine currently as well.

I did enjoy the decimal system for all the fanboy nonsense it brought with it. Game gets hyped AAA, but gets an 8.9 and causes rage. Or two "competing" exclusives release, one gets scored 0.1, or 0.2 higher than the other and therefore is the better game lol.

Aside from nonsense though, never thought it was useful at all.

Opinions are fun. Numerical quantification of an opinion is laughable.

They gave Forza 5 a high score, praised it a lot. Forza 5 was a microtransaction ridden trash.

Hype can only get you so far. Look at Destiny 1, Mass Effect Andromeda or No Man's Sky

This is just an exceptionally great year for games.

During Kevin Van Ord's time here. Now I don't totally agree with the opinion that GS loves everything and isn't critical (that's Game Informer), but since Kevin left I've noticed how reviewers overlook things that Kevin would have put his foot down on and subtracted a point or two. Of course it did look like he was burning out though as he was either doing every review or standing in for many of the ones he didn't review. I loved hearing his input on games and it has caused me to become more critical of what games have to offer as well. Perhaps Kevin wouldn't have given MGSV a 10 because the story does definitely suffer by the end whereas that wasn't enough to lower the score according to Peter Brown (who reviewed it).

GS has definitely gotten softer. That being said, Zelda is pretty darn good and Divinity: Original Sin 2 looks like the 10 is well deserved so I wouldn't reference those as games that didn't deserve their high score.
