Isn't it clear by now that the VAST MAJORITY of people who have relied on your reviews fo YEARS now, feel that your new review system is VASTLY INFERIOR to your old one?

I sincerly hope this is just a "trial run" to see how things go. I very much hope you are already planning on switching back.

I'm struggling to comprehend why you would take something that was never broken.... and break it:(

I have gone from taking YOUR reviews as THE source for my reviews, to quite frankly reading your reviews and feeling sad and frustrated as to why you would make such a NEGATIVE change.

I have not yet found a new "main source" for my reviews, but believe me.... I'm on it. And I'm not happy about it :(

Agreed, switching to the .5 interval system seems like a step to avoid more Zelda TP incedents (I'm not talking about whether the game deserved the score, merely the flack GS has taken for it), although I do like the medals.

I think we need to wait and see some more big games get reviewed before jumping to conclusions.

The new review system is too new. To judge it is premature. However, later this year are some serious heavy weight games. Considering how psychotic S/W is and how huge the games are, the review system will either seem to rid hostility completely or bomb horribly.

The only people who are upset over the new review system are only upset because now they can't compare games as needlessly scrutinizingly as they used to for "pwnage", GS reviews games for consumers, not for System Wars.

The new ones ok, but its too general, basically its just like, this game is good all around, 7/10.... What? lol I know it isnt that bad but you get what im saying. The old one had better categories that made more sense and it all worked out much better. It just looks like its been "dumbed down"...

I think thats why they changed it to this new system. Under the new system that would have rounded to a 9.0.

You say that like its a bad thing. The fanboys are what keeps SW exciting, no one wants a forum where whenever anyone says anything the response is always "I agree", or "I respectfully disagree, guess its just personal choices".

But I digress, GS also got rid of the categories, which I always found useful for buying games. I really don't care about sound or graphics when compared to value and gameplay, plus tilt was always a great way of telling how a reviewer felt about the game.

This topic is pointless. Did you guys ever think that maybe they did it because they wanted people to start actually reading the damn reviews? instead of looking at the number score and instantly "claiming" this and that?

They REVIEW games, not tack on numbers to games telling you to buy it or not. If they give a game a 7.5, but say in the review that it was an extremely fun game, but the only thing holding its score back was some minor thing that YOU personally didn't find negative, would you still pass it up because it got a 7.5?

Look at motorstorm, it got a 7.9 (understandably), but it was still a great game. Same as crackdown. Maybe if we actually read the reviews, instead of instantly trying to "own", we'd be able to further understand the meaning of "Gamer". Rather than "fanboy".

But that'll NEVER happen. so that being said... I have a feeling with this new system is going to produce a lot more 7, and 7.5's, since the score rating is basically out of a total of 19, rather than out of 100. Thus, the smaller the scale gets, the larger the value. For instance, 7.0 is the new 8.0, type of thing. I'm not saying this is how it *is*. but it could turn out this way, depending on how many games start seeing lower scores due to the new rating system.

I mean.. I highly doubt gamespot is going to give every game that would usually deserve a 7.8 or 7.9 an 8.0. my guess is everything is rounded down. therefore a 9.9 = 9.5, and so on. But I can't be sure yet.

No it didn't. And with the new review system it would have gotten 8.5/10 because they round down. Did it deserve 8.5? Only on gamespot. The rest of the human race is still laughing at G-spot and relevant fanbabies. Join us.

Old system was in 0.1 increments, new is in 0.5 increments, so instead of 9.6 it's 9.5 instead of 8.8 it's 9.0 etc.

Why did gamecube version get 8.9? Was it...dated? It had the best graphics on cube. And halo 3 is dated, it's another fps shooter.

So how does that actually change the rating system, so now it's in 5 percent increments instead of 1 percent, really I don't know how you can say one game is 1 percent better then another, but I don't see this hurting reviews.

I am referring to the sound when I say it was dated and I disliked the lack of original idea's that was present in the previous two Zelda console installements (MM and WW).

Halo 3 isn't dated, I'm sorry that is infantile logic. So that would make Metroid Prime dated?

It's not good IMO.

It makes things more bunched together and less specific. I mean an 8.8 game before will now just bemoved up to 9.0

I think we are going to see a hell of a lot of a lot more AAA titles or a hell of a lot more 8.5's than ever before now cause of it. Basically this system was put in place for casuals and that's about it. It's for non serious gamers IMO. Maybe this is thanks to the Wii? lol :p

Maybe its about taking the focus off of a trivial, useless number and actually tasking the reader to *gasp* READ the reviews? And if I don't feel like reading the review... the new pro/con icons do a good enough job of informing me of the good and bad aspects of the game. I really don't see the problem.

What? You think people didn't "READ" the reviews before? LOL

You seriously can't believe that people didn't read the reviews O_o

And even when I read the new reviews, they are inferior to what they once were. For example, I used to be able to easily find specific info I wanted, such as info about the Graphics or the Gameplay, sound ect ect. They had the review split up into east to find sections. Now those sections are gone.

The new review system is Inferior to the old system in every way I can think of.

I see why people hate it. because you can't claim ownage when 2 games both get 9 when one used to be 9.1 and the other one 8.8. The fact is most review are down in .5s or just 1s

You're assuming they round up if its over .5? What makes you think they won't round an 8.9 down to an 8.5? Or better yet, since they don't even use the .* system anymore, Wouldn't they just rate a really good game a 9.5? And only if it is DEAD ON and perfect, will we see a 10?

I am thinking we will see a lot more 7.0's. 9.5 will be the new "10". Unless i'm wrong, and they DO round up. if thats the case, then the number system will actually be completely useless. Why not just remove the numbers all together, and just review the crap?

BUT: I do have ONE bone to pick.

Instead of doing all this, why didn't they just simply start doing reviews based off what that console currently has to offer? rather than basing it off everything else thats on the market? (IE, comparing Resistance to GeoW). Why would anyone that doesn't own said other system care what its like in comparison to a game they aren't going to play?

They should just get level headed non-fanboys in there to review. Or better, get multiple people, and do it the same way 1up does it, but without the fanboyism. I think GS is generally pretty fair though. they were right about Motorstorm. I still think Resistance should have gotten at least a 9.0 though. It still is a really fun game.

But anyway, all that is behind us. Lets just see how this system pans out. See if we get more 9.5's and 10's, or if we get more 7.0's and 8.5's.
