Gamespot's gut reaction to PS3 europe launch

It's official: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that the already-delayed PlayStation 3 console will launch with different hardware that will support "a broad range of original PlayStation titles and a limited range of PlayStation 2 titles." Once the PS3 is finally released in those territories, customers there will have been waiting longer to pay a higher sticker price for what is essentially less-powerful, less-flexible hardware. Then again, is backward compatibility really all that important to begin with? What does this mean for Sony, for prospective PS3 buyers, and for the future in general? GameSpot editors from around the globe sound off. Hear what they have to say.

it's odd that only 6 months ago the cows were claiming the ps3 would outsell the 360 BECAUSE of backwards compatibility..

now it supposedly doesn't matter to cows....

I almost pretty sure cows made fun of the 360 when they announced their backwards compatibility list and that it was limited. Now cows say its no big deal. Well i think cows are two faced here on this subject. sirk1264

This whole BC issue doesn't really affect me since I still have my PS2 and it is so small, but I think the larger issue here is the fact that Europe keeps getting screwed by Sony.  NA and Japan got a better console for a cheaper price at an earlier date.  Europe was told that they would get it at the same time as the rest of the world and I'm guessing they assumed they would get a console that is of identical quality.  I think that is why this is such a big issue, the focus is on the screwage, not the BC.  That is my focus at least. 

Oh, and I do hate the poor BC on the 360.  My Xbox is a lot bigger than my PS2, so it takes up a lot more room.  I have had to pack up my 360 due to space limitations.

I don't know if you can say 360 fans are being hypocrites, they might have defended it, but the point is that Sony fans killed Microsoft fans because of it, now its the microsoft fans time to stick it to them.

I don't know but that article does make this site seem a bit bias. They have no basis whatsoever to make the claims they are making.

What kills me is they talk about how much higher the price is when they didn't add the fact that Europenas pay higher taxes then us and that the taxes are already added in that price tag. The console is not much higher then what Americans pay for it after taxes.

again, yes they did, but Sony fans kept telling microsoft fans how bad their systems were for not having the same backwards compatibility, now that sony and microsoft fans are in the same boat, of course microsoft fans are going to give it to them.

Who honestly doesnt have a PS2 hooked up rite now somwer in ther home? I bought a Ps3 to play PS3 games. but either way im in Canada and i can play ps2 games on it too. doesnt affect meGsSanAndreas

The really ironic thing is that Sony stated they were removing the PS2 chipset back in June and replacing it with a software emulator.   For once they actually kept their word and they are being trashed for it.  I'm starting to think some people will actually bash them just for the sake of bashing.ramey70
