Gamestop has begun selling a modded PS3, these models are known as supercharged and are being promoted to your specifications that brings a 500gb hard drive 5400rpm, media remote control, hdmi, supercharged skins, all at the price of $ 400. GameStop may believe what is being modded to sell the PS3 that will be coming following a lawsuit by sony

Good luck with that, Sony.

Prediction: Sony removes ability to upgrade HDDs

Modded? It's an upgraded HDD, and doing that doesn't even void the warranty. Everything else is an add-on that can be purchased for the system. Sounds to me like this is some kind of Gamestop bundle deal if anything, hardly "modded."

An upgraded HD and some accessories aren't illegal.

Read the article. Gamestop is simply adding in a bigger hard drive and some accessories. The article implies that the system is "modded" (a.k.a Geohotz-ed), but if you read the source there is no implication that Gamespot is modding the console in any unofficial way.

This is like the second time I've ever agreed with you. Also, where the hell does it say that Sony was even remotely bothered by this? It's just another stupid N4G article, yet this thread will probably pass 5 pages.

By the way, the deal sucks when you consider how much those extras are worth. You're paying $50 more than a 320GB Move bundle costs and only getting what likely amounts to a $3 HDMI cable, a $1 USB Hub, $15 or less remote, a skin that isn't worth anything. Almost no one will need a 500GB HDD.

That's not modding the system. I mean hell. Why make the HDD removable if they didn't want people to change it?

Don't ever source anything from N4G. Makes you look bad.

If you want news then use RSS feeds like a sane person. This way you can actively opt out of the piece of **** sources that "people" at N4G vomit onto the site.

It's cheaper to do it yourself, $299 PS3 + ~$50 500gb hard drive (the real selling point of the bundle). The other stuff's just cheap fluff. Bought separately it'll be about $40-50 less.

And not sure what's illegal about what they're doing. Not even sure why legality would be brought into question.

This is probably true but Gamestop might offer their own kind of warranty.

It's never voided the warranty. It even tells you how to change it in the manual.

What a troll fail. Upgrading the HDD is not modding. Sony tells you how to upgrade your HDD on the freaking website. No-where in the EULA does it say that you are not allowed to change the system's hard drive for a better one.

Same here, upgrades of the HDD is not modded. I saw this on the Gamestop website and thought it was a pretty sweet deal.

Lots of stores are already selling customized ps3s and have for years. Sony seems to be fine with it.

Thread fail.
