Imagine you are a person who does a lot of travelling (staying in hotels alot), and wanted to play games both at home and outside of home. If you had the option of either one of these packages:

1) Gaming laptop

2) Gaming desktop + Nintendo DS

Which would you choose? With package #1, you have some good power and portability in the one system and can play your games both from home and outside. Meanwhile, package #2 has more power (desktop) and more portability (DS), but the main disadvantage is that you cannot carry your desktop around with you, meaning you cannot play Crysis while in your hotel. Which would you choose and why? Remember, try to imagine yourself as someone that plays games 50% at home and 50% outside of home, so post your thoughts (yes, this another boring hypthetical thread) :)

Gaming desktop + Nintendo DS

As a Nintendo fan, I am obligated to choose this.

a laptop potentially has more functionalities than a DS, but my solution would be gaming desktop+PSP since a PSP can also do alot of the things a conventional laptop does minus word proccessing and all that other office stuff.

1)because while you are away you can still do your work, emails etc etc and play games. but if price is an issue then go with 2)

You could probably get a gaming desktop+DS+PSP for the price of a gaming laptop that'll run Crysis.

Laptop is usesless

Desktop is beter than the DS, but you'll ned both. PC is the best home system ever made and the Ds is the ebst handheld ever made. Get a PS2 as well

I'd rather take a Gaming desktop + DS + a 60 gig PS3.

That way I can play PS1/PS2/PS3 as well as DS and PC games :P

True

PS3 is a bit expensive though and the exclusives it has are crap so it's not really worth it right now

With the netbook revolution that is going on right now you could get a gaming desktop, a DS, and an affordable $300-$400 dollar laptop for the price of a top of the line gaming laptop.

BTW, my cousin built an awesome gaming computer in a very unconventional way. It might be worth looking into. He got a Dell Desktop which was pretty decked out (huge hard-drive, good processor, lots of RAM) and then upgraded the powersupply and got an 8800 GT. It came out to about $1,300 total which at the time was very cheap when you looked at his specs.

I used to say this too until I had to have a laptop in college. I had 2 different laptops in college but near the end I replaced them with a Desktop. I missed my laptop so much. It's just awesome having a 4 lb machine that you can carry with you everywhere that allows you to do basically everything you can do on a desktop. I will admit though that Desktop Replacement laptops are dumb (i.e. big thick laptops that are heavy as hell with a huge screen and low battery life). Give me a nice slim laptop with a 13.3 inch screen and a lot of the bells & whistles (i.e. HDMI output, built-in webcam, etc.).

desktop + ds

i do have an office laptop and laptops are cool, but not for gaming. that said i can run a lot of older games on the laptop. plus if you do get a laptop that can play crysis well, then its going to be big, heavy, and run hot.

I'd go with PS3+ PSP

DS's games are quite lame so it'd go with laptop.
