First off, I didn't try to find a similar thread becasue this was on my mind for quite a while and I HAD to let it out.

So, like the title says, do you think that, in the future, there will be one centralized gaming system? Doesn't matter what company makes it, just one centralized gaming system in its market (like the PC, it has monopolized computer gaming). By Gaming system I mean a console plugged to a TV.

Could it happen? Would you want it to happen?

If that did happen, it would be easier for developers and major companies to make money, instead of deciding what console to develop for. Having said that , I would like that to happen. No hard decision on what consoel to buy, just one system. It would probably be very advanced too. Think about it: if nintendo, MS and sony collabed on one system, wouldn't it have a lot of features? It would probably have motion sensing/great graphics/multiplayer, and of course, an immense game pool.

On the downside, people would sh8t themselves deciding on which game to play. Also, if a probelm like the RRoD arose, everyone would be screwed.

What do you guys think?

There would be two platforms at a minimum: PC and the console. You can make all three consoels into one, but there will still be PC.

PC and console aren't really competetors with each other so much. PC can never effectively "defeat" the consoles and vice versa.

One console would be terrible btw, competition is needed.

Seeing as consoles are copying PCs by using online play, hard drives, patches, keyboards, mice, streaming content, I would say we have you trying to emulate the cool kid except you can't quite do it right. In a way we have defeated you already by forcing you to change what you were.

I don't think there will ever be just one platform for gaming and I honestly hope there never is. Competition is the best thing we can have in the industry. Its what gives us better games.

Not just better games, Jedi, but better Hardware, and feature's as well.

Heck, without competition, Nintendo would have milked the NES a lot longer, but the SEGA Genesis put Nintendo into gear. Same goes for the Genesis, SNES, PSOne, etc.

The downside of course, is having to buy new hardware.

Just because PC may have been the first to integrate internet into gaming (which I assume it was), doesn't mean that the console's copied the PC. Thats ridiculous. Of course someone would have thought of internet for gaming on consoles as well if the PC hadn't first because its a resource that has very real applications for gaming. And its been on consoles for a long time (saturn).

Again, this is just computer technology at hand. Gaming consoles are essentially computers, so its not strange for them to use hard drives of sorts nor is it anything new (again, saturn).

Yes, patches. But again, it's computer technology. What are games made on? Computers. What run games? Computers. Of course, however, keyboards, mice, and streaming content are all modeled after and are copying the PC. However, they're not really integral.

But none of those things are necessary for the console. No one's forcing you to treat your console like a PC. Consoles are still more convineient and easier to deal with than PC gaming.

Can't fight facts. We had these things first and you came along and used them. I call that copying because consoels were too inferior to create their own technology.

Some games just play better in the PC, like FPS', and MMORPGs, IMO. Maybe I have't gotten used to console gaming yet, but controlling with two different input devices seems more accurate than one controller.

Maybe interchangeable parts for hardware upgrades? Manufacturers could set deadlines for hardware upgrades, and that would probably be better then creating whole new game systems, usually the result of competition. Also, games have to compete with other games even when they're on the same console, most notably guitar hero and rock band, halo and a lot of other fps', and racing games.

Uhhh. Those are all just natural evolutions of console hardware and its acceptance in the mainstream. :?

My natural progression? I dont design consoles buddy, dont try to make it so personal. If PC gaming is sooo advanced where is your next huge progression eh? PCs may have had them first but theyve been using the same tricks for decades. I guess when PCs finally have standard Blu-ray drives they'll be copying the PS3 eh?

The internet isn't something the PC had and then was abruptly stolen from consoles. Its a resource that PCs were first to utilize, but consoles have come to utilize more and more over time.

You're also misinformed. Games do create their own technology. Have you ever seen a console controller? Rumble pack? Etc? These are all things that were fueled by consoles.

Besides, the red and green portions are too unrelated ideas. ._.;

In conclusion, PCs are computers. Game consoles are computers. ._.; ... That would be why the have similar functionality in some ways.

Eh, not really. BRD is a storage format, if it becomes standard PC may adopt it. I can see some other optical format taking hold in the PC world though, and theres no rush. PCs were still using floppies in the mid 90s. lol Multiple DVDs on a PC is not really a big deal since all games are installed.

Standard is what most PCs come with in stores.

Are PC games standard bluray yet? Well when they are, I guess you could say they copied off of PS3 like TheGrat1 said.

No ... they're not. PC means personal computer? Did you know that? That means that its a computer used for a wide variety of functions including.

Consoles are computers that are geared almost exclusively towards gaming. Did you know that? Isn't that interesting?

What is interesting is just how much consoles truly suck. I mean I knew there were some crappy products out there, but consoles are breaking records in that field.
