You don't even have to spend $1000 on a gaming PC. For just the tower, you can spend around $500-600 that'll run every game out there on High, at a fairly good resolution. Also if you build right, you won't need to upgrade for a couple years, and that'll just be for the GPU.
Either way, you gotta look at the games library, which interests you more?
I have the same choice. I'm choosing a gaming PC, but you do already have a 360 (the PC gets most of the 360's games) so a PS3 may be a little more complimentary for you.
both have nice exclusives PC is great for RTSs (Empire: Total War, Company of Heroes) while the PS3 has great action games (GOW3, Uncharted)since you have a 360 i would say get the PS3, if you didnt have a 360 i would say get the PC. Depends if you want the PC exclusives or the PS3 exclusives more really.

PC, although i like my ps3, the pc just offers way too much to pass up, it has more games, better controls, more variety in what it can do (office, photoshop, games etc.) and mods/free games.
Yearly upgrades are definitely not required i have an 8800gt and i can pretty much play every game on high, i got it in 2007 and i can see it lasting to late 2010-11. and i'll probably only need to update the graphics card and cpu, as i have 4gb ram and the psu 700w which is plenty, so next time it might only cost me like £200-300 to upgrade, and that depends whether the cpu needs upgrading.
Go with the PC. It has everything a console has and more. For a good $500 pc check here http://game-central.org/2009/editorials/how-to-build-a-sub-500-gaming-pc/. To just give you an idea why the pc>ps3. Let us take a look at fps and rpg only that are only on that system;
PC

That's a bias-looking list...
get ps3, with ps3 you wont have to keep upgrading it every 10 seconds + your ps3 wont eat electricity like pc
only taking 2 genres into account seems silly. esspeccially seeing as you are including old PC games you might aswell start adding PS1 games onto the PS3 list lol... you missed PS3 titles aswell btw resistance comes to mind straight away.Go with the PC. Both those lists were made off the top of my head. I am sure if you checked wikipedia you would double each side where the PC still has more then the ps3.you dont have to upgrade at all anymore, there's no games pushing the hardware. crysis just runs crap because it's terriblely optimized.get ps3, with ps3 you wont have to keep upgrading it every 10 seconds + your ps3 wont eat electricity like pc

So i don't normally post on SW forums but since this section is the most popular/active i was hoping to get a quicker response. I already have a 360 but am looking for another system to game on but cant seem to decide between a PS3 or a gaming PC. Both have their pros and cons like with the PS3 i wont have to worry about yearly upgrades to stay up to date and it also has some nice exclusives which the PC doesn't have. But the PC has better graphics and cheaper games ($50). So basically what i want to know is that is the PC worth the hassle? like is it worth spending around a $1000 as apposed to 400 for the PS3? thanxgsgdvcbsaThis is a similar situation to me. I already have a PS3, but I want to get a gaming PC. I used to have one but I sold it a while ago. I had alot of fun on my PC, but I'm not sure if it's worth the cash. I really want to play Sims 3!!!
The PS3 would be the better choice for me personally. I am a university student and have a limited budget and the PS3 happens to fit into it while a PC with the primary purpose of playing games maxed out doesn't. What's more, I already have a nice laptop so I cannot justify spending all that money on a gaming PC when all its other functions would already be covered by my laptop, thus meaning that I would have spent a very large sum on a device meant only for gaming.
In addition to that, I have a nice HDTV so playing BRDs would be a nice feature. I also wouldn't have to torture myself about which parts give me the most bang for my buck. The PS3 also has a number of games that I am interested in, perhaps even more so than a gaming PC. It certainly has Bioshock and Dead Space and I am beyond eager to play those games. Despite split screen dying on consoles, it still has a presence and I have friends I would love to have in the same room as me so I can play with them.
The PS3 just seems a lot more simplistic and accessible and those two adjectives have no negative connotation for me. If you have the time, the money and the confidence, then go ahead and get a gaming PC. I myself don't.
i suggest ps3 because most 360 games are on pc. if you want some new games, then ps3 ftw. also pc's have the compatibility issues even though the hardware is up to date.

I see this comment lots of times but it doesn't really make any sense. I mean, people are perfectly happy to play games on a PS3 at 720p, 30fps, 0xAA. However, when thinking about PC gaming, the same people immediatelly imply that you have to game at 1080p, 60fps, 4xAA (or whatever). If you're happy playing games at low resolutions, aliasing, low framerates, you can buy a PC for 400$ or less.

The thing is, with the PS3, you have no other option. You can't go any higher. It's fixed. The PC is a more flexible platform, however, and people like me would want to utilize everything it has to offer but simply wouldn't be able to. I love playing around with options and such but would hate to see that some are simply unreachable. It's an inane desire, I know.

I can relate to what you're saying. With a PC if you're not playing games maxed out (or close) you feel frustrated. It's a psychological thing I guess. Still, I played Crysis at 1440x900, High, 0xAA, about 30-35 fps and had a blast :)
The PC has a vastly larger library, counting backwards-compatibility or not.
Doesn't matter if you don't draw enough games from that library to interest you, though. I did, the vast majority of my games from my collection are PC games.
ok thanx everyone, guess ill look into getting a nice PC since i haven't played good a RTS in a while (Halo Wars was such a casual-fest). gsgdvcbsa
Good luck, then! Make sure to compare prices before buying stuff off Steam. Games tend to be cheaper on Amazon.com, for example.
Also, you seem to be from the US. Why does it seem easier to find PC components for great prices there than when compared with the EU?

It depends if you like online multiplayer, if this takes up the majority of your time then PC hands down.

As someone who doesn't play any multiplayer games I don't have any problems finding games to enjoy on PC.
