Gaming related purchases you regret

1. 300$- PS4. I bought it in around October 2015. Beat Uncharted and Uncharted 2 Remaster. Got halfway through bloodborne but the frame rate was so horrible I stopped. Sold it in May 2016 I believe amidst the rumors of the PS4 Pro. At least I sold it back for about the same price I bought it for.

2. 120$- Bought COD MW3 and Halo 4 in Nov 2012. Spent around 30hrs in both games combined. Spent 120$ on them.

3. 50$- Steam Link bought early 2016. Was and still plays like complete garbage even with high speed direct link. Stutters like hell, frame rate is bad and response time is horrid.

4. 600$- 2x HD Radeon 7950. CrossFireX was BAD in 2012. Like terrible, horrible bad. Could never get them to work in many games mainly because of the awful frame pacing issues. Ended up selling them off to a miner for 1.5x the price I bought them.

Amiibos.

Anyway, sticking to modern times, MLB The Show 16 is my most regretted purchase. I bought it for $40 but should of waited longer or not bought it at all. Talk about literally the same game. But this game engine hasn't changed since the first reboot with MLB The Show 06 for PS2.

Oh I did but the pace was so slow I just stopped. Uncharted 2 gets interesting the moment they give you the controls. Aside from the bar brawl, Uncharted 3 was boring. I stopped at the castle in France. Just couldn't be bothered to go further.

UC3 gets decent/action oriented around when you get kidnapped on a boat. Then it gets slow paced again.

• "Civilization: Revolutions" Civilization does not belong on conoles...
• "Ratchet and Clank: Deadlocked" Strayed too far from the tried-and-true R&C formula
• Nintendo Wii: Great for parties, not much else. I hated using the wiimote for games like Zelda and Mario Kart.

Dragon Age: Inquisition - $60

Shit game. Wanted to like it so much because Origins was so good. Different type of game, sadly......

Uncharted Collection - $40?

UC4 had just come out to great reviews. I have a PS4. I have never played any UC games. Turns out they were exactly like I thought. Interesting from a story POV, absolutely boring gameplay. I finished the first and started the second but quit about an hour in to avoid more of the shit between the cutscenes. I guess I should have known it would be like TLoU (which I barely made it through because the story was cool but the gameplay was boring).

That's all I can think of right now. I don't usually regret gaming related purchases. I would say I regret buying a PS4, but BloodBorne and Ratchet and Clank were awesome so I don't

Nintendo 3DS - Bought it at launch and barely played it. Got about 200 hours out of it so far.

Second GTX 970

Went SLI for the first time instead of upgrading to another single GPU.

Will never make that mistake again, so frustrating.

i got the link amiibo though to try it out and it is indeed a bit pants. they could at least make it an actual action figure.

i regret getting the PS3 and 360 close to launch. i should have waited until around 2 years ago, bought both of them and raided their backlog. i just didnt use them much last gen.

armikrog was disappointing. sometimes nostalgia is a terrible thing. i think i would prefer to watch the neverhood then play the neverhood today and armikrog is not as good. i kinda fell for the hype with that one.

It's not what I bought that I regret, it's what I haven't bought. I cancelled my PSVR pre-order yesterday for financial reasons. Part of me felt empty as I confirmed my decision.

@gameofthering: Out of curiosity, what games do you play for it? I can't seem to stop playing my 3DS these days.

Anyways, I kind of regret buying Deus Ex Human Revolution at launch simply because it's like five bucks these days.

The 3DS. The hardware is so effing bad. Low resolution, ugly panel, one analog stick, gimmick 3D. It does a lot of things bad and is good at nothing.

Here's hoping the NX can play 3DS games.

I'm definitely going to be in the minority here but Shadow of the Colossus stands out to me...the game was a chore for me to play because I didn't like the controls and all the horse riding you had to do in the game. I also didn't care for Uncharted 2 that much and I regret paying full price for New Super Mario Brothers on the DS.

I opted for a PS4 and Xbone instead of a Wii U. I'm just holding out hope the NX has backwards compatibility, and I probably won't buy another Xbox or Playstation because they've just been really bad systems overall. I mean, Wii U looks to be too, but at least for the handful of games it has, I feel as if it'd have been a wiser purchase for me.

I've only bought:

+ a few digital games (Mostly stuff I had for the original Gameboy)

Been a long time since I regretted a purchase because I don't take chances on hyped garbage anymore. I only buy what I know I'll enjoy and pass on most new IPs.

The Vita would be my most expensive purchase that I regret making.

Destiny Ghost Edition

@gameofthering: Check out google and look at what else is on the system. It has a LOT of good games and literally something for everyone. Like I don't see Fire Emblem Conquest on your list. The gameplay is the best in the series and it has some of the best encounter design in the franchise. Shame about the story though.

As to what I would pick as my own gaming related purchase? Hellgate London. I built a new computer just for that game. The computer turned out to be a great investment, but the game was a pile.

Another would be the Vita. I have about 10 games for it, want about 5-6 more, and it is a great piece of kit. So why is it a waste? I can't really take it anywhere. The carrying case I bought for the thing is a literal shell, that was one of the smaller ones, and is not portable in any way shape or form. If I want to use a portable then I just throw my 3DS in my pocket and on my way I go.

my last gaming rig 1k- broke on me just when it was out of warrenty. Now it gathers dust.

All that's left is to purchase the $100 CoD edition and your pockets will be proud of your achievement.

360. I don't think it's a bad system but I was an early adopter of the PS3, which had very little games worth owning. By the time I finished pumping cash into the 360 (controllers, chargers, wifi adapter, Live, games) is when the PS3 started pumping out games and I stopped using the 360. I just didn't, and still don't, have the time to own more than one console. Just not worth it for me.

Elder Scrolls Online, paid full price on the game and a month subscription to play with my friends because they wouldn't shut up about me not having it yet.

Not even a month in, they quit the game and basically flushed a good chunk of money down the drain.

• Xbox 360, scratched discs, sold it after 1year or so
• Xbox One, completed Halo 5 and have not touched it since, collecting dust under the TV

Lately, No Man's Sky. And with the absence of Persona 5 releasing outside Japan this year, I regret getting my PS4 last holidays with the PS4 Pro around the corner.

OCZ's NIA, looked awesome at the time, was kind of interesting while at uni, now.... now i don't even know where it is at home.

hardware: amiga cd 32, 7600 gt agp (desperately tried to keep an agp system alive), amd sempron cpu 2 ghz (single core in 2007) , i7-3820 (with 250$ motherboard when I had an i5 2500), 5 year old amd phenom II x4 940 with mobo that had a defective battery slot, corsair vs 450, gtx 750, Xbox original in 2012, bought 2 wii's.... (the first ok, the second one was idiocy),

My Leadtek GTX 260. The 260s were good cards for its time and I wanted to try something new so i bought a Leadtek from my usual trusted brand, Asus. Now I'm sure Leadtek products work for a lot of people but I just had 1 problem after another. I had it replaced with another Leadtek yet again, just my luck, the replacement card also had problems. I cant really remember what I did next but IIRC probably i stuck with it till its time for another upgrade (IIRC i got a 560TI a year or 2 later).

Aw, man. I always tell people to get one GPU. To have 2 of them is 100% pointless, there's often problems, and a shitload of games don't support it. And 1 new card is also very often way better than 2 old ones. The saddest cases is when someone buys 2 AMD cards. I cringe everytime I hear that. Poor souls.

Only thing I can think of right now is Hellgate: London. I had some fun with it, but ultimately it was crap.

Oh, just remembered one more game: SSX On Tour. It was the game that came after SSX 3. SSX 3 was a freaking masterpiece and I was eager for more. On Tour was crap in comparison, so I traded it in and just continued playing SSX 3.

I miss SSX. :(

Buying Quantum Break digitally to boot.

Some Monster Hunter and Fire Emblem would suit your 3DS well. These games, if you're interested, you can easily put 500 hours into.

No real regrets in recent years just a couple of "I should have known better" purchases.

- PS4. I figured after 3 consecutive gens of Sony providing my favorite gaming platforms, what could go wrong? Well, this thing turned out to be a Bloodborne box that I also watch Netflix and Amazon video on... that is, when it's actually hooked up. I moved a little over a month ago and it's still packed up. Just no use for it at the moment. It's not a bad machine on its own, on the contrary it's probably the best console to own if you don't have a PC. But yeah, in the modern gaming landscape it comes off as redundant and inferior. I don't regret buying one, but I could have just waited till the end of the gen, picked one up on the cheap, and played the handful of worthwhile exclusives.

- TW3. The only full priced game I picked up this gen that I didn't enjoy or get my moneys worth out of. And before you Witcher fans jump on my nuts about it, yes, I know you love it, it's just not for me bros. And it really is my fault. I thought TW1 was a poor game. People said "So did I Conan, but TW2 is different!". So I bought TW2 and thought it was a medicore game. And of course I heard "Same here Conan, TW2 sucks, but TW3 is awesome!". So yeah, that makes me the fool. (On a side note, I have reinstalled the game again and will be trying again when I have the time.)

Generally I've been coming out on top with my gaming purchases. I usually won't even buy a big game until the honeymoon phase has subsided and more objective viewpoints start to prevail. Occasionally I'll gamble on a day 1 purchase (MGSV, Doom 4, Pillars of Eternity, etc.) and luckily I've enjoyed them all.

Age of Conan and APB.

The only two consoles I have ever regretted buying were the 360 and PS3 because I never used them. Even my Atari Jaguar got more use because of AvP, Doom and Iron Soldier. I almost regret buying WiiU but its had just about enough use from my wife and daughter to justify the money I spent on it. I won't be buying any more consoles though, Iv always had more than enough to do on PC and I don't see that changing.

Well there are a lot of games that turned out to be very bad and I wished I never got it (like recently No mans Sky). But aside of that, I don't remember any regretable purchase.

Ridge Racer 6 on 360, the worst racing game EVER, don't play it unless you want to show people what a terrible f***ing game looks like.

@freedomfreak: yup, agree on Amiibos. Terrible choice I regret, though I only bought about a dozen in total.

My worst regret of all time? Busting my ass doing daily backbreaking physical labor on my parents' 3 acre protea farm getting paid $10/hour to save up $800+ for an Atari Jaguar when I was in my mid teens.

I'm not exaggerating either, though in the end my folks chipped in the final $100. Sure taught my ass a hard learned lesson: don't be a moron.
