So many books, TV movies, silver-screen movies, and other mediums, along with being able to tell great stories, have holiday classics that can be called upon each year to reiterate the medium's quality.

For games, we don't really do that. Sure, we may add hats to our Team Fortresses and Uncharted multiplayers, but it's not the same as having a reliable game to call on every Christmas. I don't even celebrate Christmas as much as I just put up lights and a tree, but would still love for a game to have an engaging idea and cement itself as a Christmas classic yet is fun to play at any time.

So does anyone else agree that games should also have some great Christmas/holiday-centric stories? Also, feel free to share any Christmas games you may have played, indie-or-not.

Yep, for most holidays actually, if you had the internal clock set properly. It was actually pretty cool.

Wow that sounds great.

Would be nice if other games implemented something similiar throught certain holidays of a year, even small easter eggs.

I wouldn't mind. The closest I've come to playing a Christmas-themed game was in Die Hard Trilogy.

i been meaning to open that up. looks cool every time is ee it on steam. lol.

lots of mmos also take on holiday events also.

I think retail games don't like doing it because they fear people may look at it just like holiday movies and only play them during that 1 time of the year. Shoot what happens if the game gets delayed?

It would have to be a really short game to become a tradition. I wouldn't watch Wonderful Life every year if it was 6-10 hours long.

Tons of MMO's do it, then there's stand outs like the Killing Floor and TF2 as well as the Sims 3 (to a degree) with Christmas updates, and there's also games that have Christmas just in the game in manny ways (level, mention, achievement, etc.).

Persona 4 Godlen has Christmas. Brotag even gets to choose one of his many girlfriends to spend it with. Oh and if you have multiple girlfriends, Valentine's Day is a very interesting day for your moralities. hehehee

Christmas is ghastly.

You might think I'm a scrooge of some kind, au contraire! I'm pleasant and helpful the entire year round, and I never change this. Thus, when Christmas arrives I don't change the music of the day from Al Jolson to Justin Bieber's Christmas, I don't all of a sudden start saying 'Merry Christmas' - what's wrong with Good Morning?

I don't erect a tree, buy the albums, get blind drunk, etc etc. I give gifts to others if I really have to. If it's the season of giving, well I do give - there are so many people who need my help. They're all like 'Simon why won't my laptop boot?' 'Simon do you know how to do an oil change?' 'Simon do you know how to write a script which can email me a directory listing every day?' - so I take time off work, and I spend some of it helping people I know, or people like my dad's friends.

Why do people care about Christmas? It's been debunked since at least 1987 that Santa Claus does not provide the Childrens' presents.

Yes. Should I have children some day, then I may be forced to erect a tree or something. Obviously, like most parents, I'll probably spoil the kids at Christmastime.

AndCherokee_Jack, he's not real. It's not that he is real, but just doesn't deliver the presents. Santa's not real. Please - don't spend your Wii U fund on a Chimney.

Meh, I hate the repeated crap on TV and most of the music. The only music that I find acceptable is the older classics, Rat Pack, Ella Fitzgerald etc. Can't see myself playing a Christmas game, especially not every year!

Christmas for me is about spending time with family, the mrs and friends with some good food and booze. Don't much care about the more commercial side.

Oh god was Animal Crossing lame with holidays. I thought they would at least jazz up the shop or something, but no, still the repetitive old slog. Also, I'm talking about holiday-specific games, not ones that just change a small part to fit a holiday.

Pretty much.

I played it for, IIRC, around 100 hours last Christmas along with 5 other friends who all put in 40-60 hours each as well.

This year is shaping up to be just as fun!

I think that solution is far better than an actual game that is a Christmas one really. Thing is, games are GAMES, nobody wants to buy a game themed around Christmas. The cool skins and events (TF2 always has fun events) are Christmasy enough and I can rely on these games to deliver the Xmas gaming needs
