over concerned parents who are afraid to lose control of their kids since they can't control a videogame.
I'm ussually conservative as far as raising kids go (no i'm not a parent, lol) but these parents are the kind where they are soo conservative they get their panties in a bunch.

I think you need to look at this from a parent's perspective, because they're right. Video games have a far more detrimental effect on children and teenagers than alcohol or sex. (Please note: The video specifically shows that drugs are the #1 parental worry, not video games.)
*GASP* PUT THAT CONTROLLER DOWN ITS EVIL AND THE DEVILS HOBBY!!!!1!! Seriously these people crack me up, getting drunk at a party and then driving home when ur 16 is OK, but seeing some PIXELATED skin or guns isnt?unknown37
Getting drunk at a party and driving home when you're sixteen is not a daily worry. Drinking is definitely more dangerous if you're talking about what's more life-threatening, but if you're looking at long-term behavioral effects, video games are far worse because they encourage kids to ignore responsibilities.
Alcohol is just a fad among teenagers. Most experiment with it, and maybe they get hammered at the occasional party, but you'll hardly see any abusively alcoholic teenagers simply because they don't have access to it.

wow, must be the game that's worser than drugs.. but is it really that addicting?? I never tried it.
its like smoking, to some people, once they get hooked, its hard to get unhooked, for others they can play it for a week and then just not play it ever again, it depends what type of person you are

i saw the video and marijuana was number one. alcohol was number 3. these parents can complain all they want about sex, violence, and foul language in video games all they want, but at the end of the day, not of it is real. they are fighting a war against something that isn't physical and is completely fake. face it, these people need to get a life if they think that video game violence is more harmful than real violence and drugs.
I agree. Drugs are way better. I enjoy them more at least.MTBare
drugs+video games are where its at. driving in first person in gta is so much fun.

Im addicted to video games which is worse then drugs or drinking...
when people pull all nighters to get past a certin part they are addicted.
when people sacrifice real life for MMOs they are addicted.
when people go on forums to talk about video games....they are addicted.
its an addiction but I dont care its safe and I enjoy it!
also Im glad parents are buckling down on making sure their kids play approprite games and such...this means VG have a less chance of getting blamed when a 12 year old kid decides its a good idea to shoot up the school.

No the parents are right. If I had alittle boy I wouldnt want him subjected to this material until I felt he was at an apporprite age. Them limiting THEIR kids on what they think they should play doesnt effect you so I dont see why you guys are up in arms over this. For the first time in video game history parents are taking responsibility for their children which means video games cant be blamed for violence in the world which means its going to earn more respect...see how it works?

i see the point you are trying make, but the reality of the situation is that most parents are so lazy or so technologically inept, they'd rather the government censor or block video games, music, and movies instead or the parent enabling the parental controls of a video game console or tv. the fact is, these lazy parents ruin everything for everyone. look at jack thompson. he tried to have games blocked because he didn't want his son playing them. instead, he should've enabled parental controls on the console and NOT BOUGHT THE DAMNED GAMES. seriously, these parents are so hypocritical and completely disconnected with reality that they buy these M-rated games for there children and complain about it later instead of taking less than 5 minutes and learning about the games and the ratings. had thompson done this, he'd still be a lawyer. too bad he stays as far away from logic as possible.
if you feel that children should not play these games, then don't give it to them, it's as simple as that. video game stores DO ask for government ID such as a driver's licence to make sure the purchaser is 18 or older. this wasy, a minor cannot purchase the game himself. there is absolutely no need to censor or block a media and piss off millions of people just to appease a few ---- fo brain mothers with more free time than mentality.
the parents are not right at all. the industry is correct in telling parents to monitor their children's gaming and movie watching habit. the government isn't a ------- babysitter nor a parent. the government is here to make sure we don't kill each other over a stolen cookie. if the parent refuses to monitor their children, then they shouldn't have had children in the first place.
/end pissed off rant.

What the hell makes you think parents AREN'T monitoring their children? Do you think they need to Lo-Jack their kids or something? Seriously.
Besides, the survey was about what parents are most afraid about, NOT about what parents think can hurt their kids the most. The survey identifies what parents want to AVOID exposure their children to. They're doing exactly what you want them to do.

Unfortantely most rational people go upon FACTS..
Fact: There has been no real evidence to show violent video games cause violence.. INfact violence is at a all time low, much lower infact before video games even took off.. So if video games are causing violence (which I doubt they are), its so minimal its rediculous.
Fact: There is REAL evidence to show alochol is a addictive drug that is PHYSICALLy harmful to you in over the top quanties.. It changes a persons perceptions, and misuse can cause death by drinking and driving..
I am quite sure from this analysis, alochol is a bigger issue and worry.
on a side note.. Am I the only person who thinks these parents are going too far.. Sheltering from everything, telling them that they are "special", in the words of Carlin.. ITs the pu**ification of people who think they are special, and are uptight to the extreme when something the least bit adultish is mentioned or shown.. Seriously are we heading to another victorian age, when it comes to some of these parents? Just my two cents.
