Yes. If I recall, he's in the process of donating 85% of his fortune to them. That makes him the biggest philanthropist we've ever known, by far.

Yes. If I recall, he's in the process of donating 85% of his fortune to them. That makes him the biggest philanthropist we've ever known, by far.

If he dies before all the money is donated, the deal becomes void i believe. There are also a bunch of other requirements for the donations to keep coming.

It doesn't say "past" 13 years. It only says "was the richest man in the world for 13 straight years." It doesn't mention the time frame of those 13 years.

Isn't Buffet giving most of his money to the Gates Foundation anyway.

I think Gates and Buffett are the biggest philanthropists in history in total dollars, but if you adjust for inflation, I BELIEVE (but am not certain) one of the earlier tycoons were. Think Rockefeller etc. But I'm just jogging my memory, I can't say for sure.
