Got to it before I did.combat evolved its a sad haloripoff
Halo games on the much smaller Xbox user base outsold a good majority of the PS2 games? Userbase =/= guarantee higher sales.
Two golden things; 1) Marketing and 2) releasing the game at the right time.
Gears of War had great marketting and came out in November, where people buy software in droves. Killzone 2 had poor marketing. Yeah it had a lot of internet hype, but internet hype doesn't translate to every gamer. That's why Resident Evil 5, on both the 360 and PS3, and Halo Wars sold more than Killzone 2. Better Marketing = higher chance the game will sell. This is something Sony has been dropping the ball on lately.
As for the time it's released; games sell better during the holiday season, and when you mix awesome marketting like Gears of War, you have a guaranteed hit.

Though Killzone 2 didn't perfect anything.
[QUOTE="M1KES"]Thats another good factor, competition is MUCH stronger these days and FPS's have been done to death. Gears debuted at the time where games like RE4 pushed the 3rd person genre and revolutionised it. At the time, Gears was a fresh choice and with the unique cover system it was something to definitely try, along with the marketing..Gears was HARD to miss. K2 debuted after Halo 3 and COD4, etc. No that's not a good factor :? For God's sake two other consoles were launching at the same time!! Gears of War was standing against the Wii AND Playstation 3 launch. Normally people are more into the launch of a new console more then a new game.Gears 1 came out at a time where very few good games existed... People didnt have much of a choice back then.

In your opinion. Whats your PSN ID? We could play some KZ2 tonight if you want.Though Killzone 2 didn't perfect anything.

LOL quit blaming sony marketing they spent hella money on KZ2 marketing and it worked i seen the ads everywhere for that last 2 months, its just nobody cared
I don't know if the money spent was enough, but you can't say this game was marketed properly. R2 got way more exposure than KZ2 did. Yeah, if all you watch is Spike TV, I guess you saw it. Plus, they waited until about 2 weeks before it's release to even start airing the ad= FAIL. But I somewhat agree with you on the "nobody cared" part. It's a shooter that looks better than most, but really doesn't bring anything different to the table that the more well-established, well-known shooters on the market do. But KZ2 is breaking records: It holds the record for the most depressing midnight release I've ever seen in my life.
Got to it before I did. Perfected > evolved. But whereas Halo made and kept this promise, Killzone failed to do so. And if you are a philosophy major you should know that nothing in this world made by men can ever be perfected. Perfected, that is just bad marketing.combat evolved its a sad haloripoff

Halo 3 was going to sell millions no matter when it was released. But the release was timed for maximum revenue. The hype got it tons of initial sales, while a month or so later it entered the holiday shopping season which bought it another wind in sales potential.Well, that basically destroys his "logic" about the time when a game is released. Also, Killzone 2 Hype = Halo 3 Hype. You don't know how many times Killzone 2 exploded before launch.
I haven't watched TV in 4.5 years (at least not actively on an actual television), but everytime I pass buy one, theres always a 360 commercial on, and the number of times I saw that commercial for the first gears is astronomical. And it was a really good commercial, it really got you interested in what it was all about. The fact it was early on when there was less competition, and the fact MS really knows how to market helped it out. Sony marketing is ... just ... yeah. But both games are fun, and its sad that people haven't bought KZ2, because they either have some vendetta with KZ or Sony or they just think its another run of the mill shooter, cause its a really fun game.FACT MS know how to market

LOL. Stop DEFENDING the game. If you REALLYdon't think Killzone 2 was AT LEAST as hyped as H3, you MUST have lived in a cave in the last 3 years. Killzone 2 was hyped like NO OTHER game on the forums MONTHS before release. Not even the 10 GTA IV comes close. Every damn kid talked about it before launch about how awesome it would be and how it would kill Halo. Go to N4G, see yourself, before launch, I read myself no game came close to KILLZONE 2. Also, what about the £2 AD in the UK ALONE by Sony? I saw Killzone 2 ads EVERYWHERE before launch, on bus stations, every time I **** turned on the TV, KIllzone 2 was there, especially on many TV SERIES. It's just, people ignored it.
Killzone 2 was way more hyped, in fact, EVERYWHERE on the forums and IRL. Sony spend more on marketing on Killzone 2, for instance £2 in UK ALONE, than Microsoft did on Halo 3. Everybody talked about this **** EVERYBODY. Everywhere, where have you been living? I don't even know if you're serious now...
No excuses. Cows should be shot for not making Killzone 2 a multi million seller in 1 month. NO EXCUSES. Lemmings buy anything MS/ or has the name Halo (even a shallow Halo RTS). Cows you better start buying some damn games that are exclusive to THE TREY!! Killzone 2 destroys any exclusive 360 fps i ever played YES EVEN HALO 3 imo and you arent buying the damn game .... Ya, you didn't see any Killzone2 themed soda anywhere did you? I think I've even seen a Halo 3 commercial in the theaters one time! Another factor that I think could have meant less sales for KZ2 is the economy. I know I have not gotten all the games I want because I need to save some bucks :(

KZ's hype was extreme on the forums. Halo's hype was freakin everywhere.Think Killzone 2 sold great consider it was a sequel to a game that atleast all in SW say sucked.
Gears of war was a new game with new clean slate and had no bad reputation from a earlier game.
aroxx_ab
It did not hurt that Gears was made by Epic, the company that makes Unreal Tournament. The first Killzone sold great, but many people hated it because of the glitches and frame rate issues (but I still like it!).
Geez, and what other game was out that was worth anything at the time Gears released, I'm sure there wasn't no RE5, Cod4/waw, Socom or R2's out there at the time. And alot of people were waiting for Gears since E3 05 aswell, it was definitly hyped and people were waiting for it. Matter afact it was the only game I wanted to play on the 360 or even pc once I seen it a E3 05, and most in here would say the same.
Sure everyone remembers that cgi trailer they showed back then, makes me chuckle now after hearing people say that MS doesn't use cgi lol.
FACT KLLZONE 2 was coming of a lackluster first race FACT gears of war unknown IP heavily marketed and scored well. The unknown Gears 1, without any earlier games,on a much smaller userbase, sold 1 million in 2 weeks. Source.
The sequel and hotly anticipated FPS, on a muchlarger userbase than Gears 1, sold 1 million in 1 MONTH and A HALF.
---------------
Tell me, what's better? To sell 1 million copies in 2 weeks on a SMALL userbase when you are UNKNOWN,
or to sell 1 million copies in ONE and a HALF month with a much BIGGER userbase when you're a HOTLY anticipated sequel?
-----------
Fact: Gears 1 was the first game in an entirely new series - nothing established.
Gears 1 was released when there were much fewer 360 than there are PS3 now.
Gears 1 STILL managed to sell faster than the HUGELY anticipated PS3 FPS sequel.
------------
Oh, and don't come with "you play sales lol rofl", we also know that the system with the most A, AA and AAA games is 360. But now, what do you think of Killzon 2 sales vs Gears 1 ?
TheNewspaper
of course its gonna sell well that was the first hotly anticipated game for the 360, i remeber seeing it ingame informer and was blown away, because if i can recall right, MS didnt really have many great releases that coincided with the console, if i bought a 360 i would for sure rush to buy gears of war.
These people find the most pointless reasons to bash games, if it's scoring well, they have to bash it's lackluster sales. These things are completely irrelevant when actually playing the game. I mean what people need to realize is that Regardless of a games score, sales graphics or what not we all enjoy different things. Is this TheNewOrder alt. account or something?
Anywho, I don't care for sales, but KZ2 is selling good and has an excellent average score. So move on.
