Game Critic's choice for this year's best E3 console game is none other than the PS3's Little Big Planet. This means a lot. It further adds to the clam that 2008 is the year of the Playstation 3. Since Little Big Planet also won in the social/casual gaming category, the PS3 has become an even better choice than the 360 for casuals who owns an HD TV.

Which brings me to another subject. Microsoft is basically stuck between a rock and a hard place; it is unable to compete for the hardcore who want the biggest, most advanced games (due to the PS3's supperior hardware), and it is unlikely to win the casual market due to the Wii's specialty and the PS3's Blu-ray, brandname, and well, Little Big Planet, which will surely give Spore a run for its money.

I'll have agree because the 360 has been really starving for a good exclusive this year. This is not to say Gears 2 will be as well received in the media as much as Gears 1, though. Media treatment should be worse for Gears 2, which seems too similar to Gears 1.

Same old line of BS from another cheerleader. MS is in trouble because the future of the PS3 is so bright. Tell me something I have not heard for the last 2 years just for a change of pace please.

Tbo, I'm glad you guys can put critical thought behind you and still believe all the hype but for many of us it's time to put up or shut up and Sony need to deliver on the promises as opposed to expecting us to support a system that has never even come close to delivering on all the hype.

It almost definitely will, though I think LBP could be close if it gets the right advertising.

TC, you're thinking too hard and making too much out of it all.

Gears 2 is not 'lost' in anything.

One game has not and will never put a whole console 'between a rock and a hard place'.

Microsoft's Fall offerings are fine.

Relax, would ya?

LittleBigPlanet seems to be something new (to consoles). Spore seems to be another Sims game. So yeah, some sims game did well, but honestly....how long can you pursue the same game with minimal changes with each sequel?

its a sequel. what do you suggest; that they should change everything like NFS Prostreet? that went down real well with reviewers.

I wish Spore had been demonstrated at Ninty's E3 conference. Then we'd see LBP and Spore be ultimately compared in the Best In Show awards and therefore we wouldn't be biasing each other silly in this thread.

i don't think spore is anything like the sims at all, the only thing it has in common is the creator. From what i have played of the creature creator, which is just a tiny tiny fraction of the full game, its going to be stunning.

I don't think too hard. It comes naturally to me:) I never said one game will do that the 360. I said the E3 award reminded me of Microsoft's predicament. If YOU think hard about it, you will see that Microsoft is indeed stuck in a difficult place, unable to compete for the high end, hardcare market and the low end, casual market.

Award =//= sales.

Little Big Planet may be winning many awards, but I can garentee you GEar will win in sale by a land slide.

By the way, Little Big Planet is not a hard core game.

You again...And your post is as easy to defile as always...Making Little Big planet win best console game is nothing more than opinion. Here at System Wars the game is a joke compared to Spore and many perfer Banjo because they aren't fond of level editors. I bet you anything that Banjo will sell more than Little Big Planet.

How does it add to the claim that 2008 is the year of the PS3?
Lets see..

Stealth-PS3 wins with MGS4

Action-XBOX 360 with NG2

RPG-obviously 360 wirth Fable 2, SO4 and IU. not to mention FF13 was announced Multiplat

Shooter- Gears 2>Resistance

I can go on and on and on...You say its unable to compete for the hardcore audience, let LBP is as casual of a game as you can get...You say PS3 has better hardware when FAMOUS game developers said themselves that the 360 is more powerful and the only advantage of the PS3 is blue ray...
How much does Sony pay you for this?

And im sick of everyone damage-controlling the hype on this game. Do you suppose everyone in the industry of media surrounding videogames (reviewers, writters, gaming news, etc.) is wrong about this game, cuz from the people who have been closest to this game all i hear is words like amazing, innovative, endless potential and other positives.

ROFL!! Microsoft worried? AHAHAHAH! They trashed the PS3s biggest upcoming game (FF13) and made it multiplat...SE is supporting the XBOX 360 much more than the PS3. Banjo will be better than LBP for many people. Right now, the 360 has control of every game genre other than stealth. Im sure the hardcore and casuals will be more than satisfied..

not a very compelling argument...even though LBP will be an amazing game, the fanbase that game will have and the fanbase that GeoW2 will have is totally different...i will end up getting both and loving both...but to say that the 2008 is the year of the PS3 is a little foolish..considering the games you mention haven't even been released yet

Gears will sell to the the hardcore gamers and the next level down and its sales are pretty much guaranteed. LBP on the other hand will sell to the much larger casual market as well as the hardcore gamers too. The difference is that LBPs sales are much less assert than GOW2 and it will actually be the first big test for the PS3 at recapturing some of the huge PS2 market. LBP has more potential for higher sales but is also a higher risk for Sony than GOW is for Microsoft and Epic.

I think LBP is going to be great. as someone who wasn't immediately impressed by it initially, It's grown on me.

That being said, you are absolutely mental if you think that LBP is going to do anything to the juggernaught that Gears 2 is going to be.Expect a Halo 3 like turnout for it and critics begging people to look at LBP.

its a simulation of evolution, hence why he wanted to call it sim everything. Now, lets see, a simulation of evolution, one where you can create pretty much any living creature you mind can imagine, evolve it from single cell right through to space exploration. Explore space and see other players planets..... or create a side scroling platformer, hmmmm tough choice.

It's casual. The art style is simplistic and it's being marketed as a family game.

Microsoft is basically stuck between a rock and a hard place; it is unable to compete for the hardcore who want the biggest, most advanced games (due to the PS3's supperior hardware), and it is unlikely to win the casual market due to the Wii's specialty and the PS3's Blu-ray, brandname, and well, Little Big Planet, which will surely give Spore a run for its money.

argetlam00

You again...And your post is as easy to defile as always...Making Little Big planet win best console game is nothing more than opinion. Here at System Wars the game is a joke compared to Spore and many perfer Banjo because they aren't fond of level editors. I bet you anything that Banjo will sell more than Little Big Planet.

How does it add to the claim that 2008 is the year of the PS3?
Lets see..

Stealth-PS3 wins with MGS4

Action-XBOX 360 with NG2 sorry infamous looks to be better

RPG-obviously 360 wirth Fable 2, SO4 and IU. not to mention FF13 was announced Multiplat  i will give you that

Shooter- Gears 2>Resistance but res2,solcom>>gears 2

I can go on and on and on...You say its unable to compete for the hardcore audience, let LBP is as casual of a game as you can get...You say PS3 has better hardware when FAMOUS game developers said themselves that the 360 is more powerful and the only advantage of the PS3 is blue ray...
How much does Sony pay you for this?

you forgot

platform ps 3 lbp>>>>>>bookie

horror ps 3 siren>>>>nothing

I think LBP is going to be great. as someone who wasn't immediately impressed by it initially, It's grown on me.

That being said, you are absolutely mental if you think that LBP is going to do anything to the juggernaught that Gears 2 is going to be.Expect a Halo 3 like turnout for it and critics begging people to look at LBP.

heretrix

Here's what your comment made me think.

Big deal to us: Ico, SoTC, Okami, ect, ect, ect...

Big deal to normal people: Fiddy Cent Bulletproof, Madden, ect, ect, ect....

LBP = another game we are going to love that will fail at retail and we will all be bummed out over since once again we will have to relaize what a nothing demographic people like us are.

Ill take it even further and say that MGS4 will sell more than LBP and GeOW2 will sell more than both.

I doubt if Gears 2 will ousell MGS4 alone, worldwide. MGS4 will have a longer selling lifespan than Gears 2 because Gears 2 will bring nothing really compelling new to the gaming world. MGS4 should continue to be one of the biggest and most advanced games this generation, the closest experience you will ever get to "playing" a movie. Little Big Planet receivign so much hype in the press already...

Wanna make a $1000 bet? I live in LA. MGS4 +LBP>>>>>Gears 2 in sales world wide.

its a simulation of evolution, hence why he wanted to call it sim everything. Now, lets see, a simulation of evolution, one where you can create pretty much any living creature you mind can imagine, evolve it from single cell right through to space exploration. Explore space and see other players planets..... or create a side scroling platformer, hmmmm tough choice.

Frozzik

I agree, Spore will be great, but its still in essence another Sims game.

And LittleBigPlanet is more than just a "create a side scroling platformer". We also have the option for unlimited customization posibilities. Yeah, theres not nearly as much stuff as there will be in Spore, but it will still be a great game reguardless.

Let us not forget this little tidbit: "Xbox 360 games won 11 separate awards, followed by PS3 and PC with seven apiece".

Hey! Hey! This is System Wars remember? We just read the title and jump to conclusions, like we always have. Keep it simple.

There's also the very real possibility that you'll experience the anguish of knowing you won't be seeing anything of that game again because it performed so poorly in sales, ala Okami.

Hey, im looking forward to LBP as much as anyone, looks so much fun, im just sick of seeing threads about it. People act like its going to revolutionize gaming or something. I just find it rather irritating that spore is being overlooked. If it was a PS3 exclusive we'd see spore threads every day.

Very unlikely. To win such a big award, the press needs to ask: What does Gears 2 add to the gaming industry? More of the same isn't good enough. At least Resistance 2 will add the largest boss and multiplayer size for a shooter game, while maintaining good graphics.

I guess so, they have to combine the sales of MGS4 with LBP to compare it to GeOW2....
