Gears is overated and such have got Bioshocks sroce while Bioshock should get Gears score, but then gears did come out a year early.St_muscat
True, If I had my way, it would have been Gears at 9.1 and BioShock at 9.7 (9.5 after the new score setup).
Sorry, but IMO, Gears is over-rated, and BioShock is under-rated here on GS.SpruceCaboose
Naah i dont agree that gears is overrated.
It was the first nextgen to say:"WOW, WOOOOOW". And i rly did WOW me.
That with a decent singleplayer and an awesome multiplayer?..
I think u r too focused on the singleplayer aspect, if so then yes gears would have been dissapointing to u.
Only systems I have are Wii and 360.....and ive played both games...and they are indeed over-rated.....
Gears of War has no story.......and by the time your at the end of the game, you have been doing the same exact thing for hours......it gets boring.......you can only chainsaw so many people before you just want it to stop and let you get on with the game....
Bioshock has a great story.....great enviroment, great atmosphere and all of that....but the actual gameplay isnt that good....all you do is walk around and hit the left trigger to do some move, and hurt peopoe...or bash the right trigger a bajillion times until people die...its nothing new, it didnt bring anything new at all to the FPS part of the game.....and the FPS part of it is really average....plus the game is so linear there isnt much adventure in it...
Maybe they arent over-rated....but I look for a lot more in a game and graphics seemed to boost those games about aone point, so if it didnt have shiny graphics they probably would have "flopped"....those 2 bored the hell out of me....
My guess - Halo 3 only sold 30 million copies through 2007 - MGS4 will sell twice that in one month.SecretPolice
30 million? wtf
So sheep and cows will buy halo too?:p
Bioshock is a quality game BUT, it is rather short for a single player only game. I went everywhere in the game, found everything i could, didn't use the objective pointer and still finished it in under 10 hours. i then played through the game a second time just to get the last 2 achievements and that took about 4 hours. Now, i don't really know why i would want to play it again.
so no, it isn't worth a high 9. Its worth a 9 in the sense that is it one of the best singleplayer experiences this year. If it did have some sort of a multiplayer, or just a co-op then no doubt it would be better than Gears, but Gears just offers a lot more to do in the long run.

The first month of multi, I would have agreed with you.
Then it turned into a repetative glitch-fest, and it got boring, what with glitchers, people who would run and hide when they were down, forcing a draw, huge host advantages...its just a broken system that Epic seems content not to fix.

Der, it's a joke - sheeesh !Though sheep and cows I hear are buying the legendary edition hoping to become a collector of sweet unopened games.
Shhhh - another joke - don't tell him. j/k :)

yea but gears did come out a while ago when the graphics really looked good back then and the gameply and stuff.
but now i would give it a 9.1

You didn't really play BioShock, did you? You don't hurl people, since you cannot use telekenisis on a living character, and you don't "bash" either trigger, you shoot with it. And accuracy and head shots count for a heck of a lot in the game, so if you just bash, not only would you die more, you wouldn't really be playing the game so much as plodding through it.
And the game is far from linear if you take the time to explore the levels fully, and collect all the audio diaries, which are darn near required to get the full enjoyment from the game. Yes, you have a goal to get to, and there are only a few ways to get there, but to just go from point A to point B is to miss the point of the game completely.
EDIT: I realize you wrote "hurt" people, not hurl. My fault. Hurting people is kinda the point in most First-Person Shooter/Action games...
If you wanted to be nice to things and be happy, might I suggest Viva Pinata? Its got great gameplay, and you don't have to hurt people.

I get sick of this argument. Bioshock has given you THE BEST SINGLE PLAYER FPS EXPERIENCE EVER, huh? To quote a wise man, "That's like, your opinion, man." FPS games aren't my cup of tea. Your results may vary. You can have Bioshock. Personally, I have no desire to play it, Mass Effect, Gears, or Halo.

You could beat pretty much entire game by shocking people and hitting them with the wrench.....2 weapons from the very very beginning....
And head shots really dont do that much.....they get one hit kills occasionally....even though it only takes 2 to kill them so that one shot doesnt even make that much of a difference..
And with the braindead AI its really not that hard to do anyway...
Gears is greatly overrated. It's appeal wears off in just a few hours.
Bioshock, also seems to be overrated based on the actual written reviews. Granted I havn't played bioshock yet, I'm just going on what the reviews say. I do plan on playing it when M$ puts out their 65nm 360s though. A story driven FPS sounds like it would be pretty interesting even if the combat is boring.

Hahaha...
You can beat the game anyway you like to beat it, weapons, wrench, plasmids, tonics, a combination....etc.
Brain dead AI...I like that. Did you play this on easy, or are you just parroting back reviews you read on the game (as I read the same things you are saying about the wrench and two shot kills in many reviews)? It takes far more than two shots to kill a splicer outside the first few levels on any difficulty beyond easy.
The AI is very decent, with the characters attacking you like the deranged lunatics they are, to seeking water when they are on fire, running away when they are hurt, trying to heal themselves when they can, and generally behaving as one would expect lunatics to behave, they have their goal (kill you for ADAM), and they go about it, while trying to protect themselves as well.

Last time I checked Halo 3 is already sold out at six of my local Gamestop retailers. MGS4 is still taking orders. Than again Halo 3 did meet it's release date. MGS4 is, um........ Well it will come out one day.....
Also how can MGS4 sell more than 30 million copies when the PS3 hasn't even sold 30 million units. Your guess is that for every PS3 out there people will buy 5 copies of MGS4.
mass effect is overrated thats whats nextserg_15
HAHA i love your sig. well we can't go on opinion right now. It might be one of these 'love it or hate it' games or just pure hype.

You can beat the entire game on normal by doing this....
2 characters approach
Shock one and beat it with wrench until it falls......use a health pack, spin other direction and beat the other one till it falls...
Move on to next area....watch little cutscene thing.....see 3 enemies approach you near water....shock water....watcht hem die....move to next area
The combat has its good points.....but overall its just average and boring...

Gears ain't overrated, i still play it and it's the best MP game on XB360LIVE at the moment. Only until H3 comes out will Gears be dethroned of that. Single player was really short but with a few more ours of gameplay and more bosses it would have been much better(i.e PC version). Also as good as Bioshock is Gears is still the best looking game on 360, technically.

I thinksome reviewers are playing games on easy difficulties. The MP3 review said it was too easy (mostly due to the controls), but you can start out on veteran difficulty (which isn't that easy - about a medium), then replay through on yet another more difficult setting.

Both games have incredible single player campaigns, but Gears of War offered co-op and multiplayer and that's something that's completely missing in BioShock. They got the scores they deserve people, let it go.

Yeah, its boring when you choose to play it in the most tedious way possible. You could choose to do more exciting things, try new tactics, set traps, etc. Do you go through Grand Theft Auto games politely, choosing not to break any laws until you have to as well?
If you wanted to make BioShock the most dull you could to prove a point instead of enjoying it as a gamer should, your opinion becomes invalid to me.

You have to review the game on default difficulty setting, not easy mode or hard mode. MP3 doesn't even have an easy mode does it?

I do understand what you mean, and I have noticed that in a few reviews for lots of games. It always makes me question the reviewer a bit.
Well I'm a "cow" because I own a PS2, PS3 and a PSP (as well as a PC), but no MS or Ninty consoles...
But I think Gears and BioShock are amazing.
I believe Halo is considered overrated because of the insane amount of second-coming-of-Christ hype it gets. Nothing can live up to that.

you are 1 cool cow dude :) and yeah halo 3 does get an insane amount of hype that it obviously isn't able to live up to. i don't understand why it's so popular (particularly among casual gamers, ok maybe not so casual after they get their hands on halo 3), but i don't have a problem with that, because there's going to be halo 3 lan parties all over the place.
Sorry, but IMO, Gears is over-rated, and BioShock is under-rated here on GS.SpruceCabooseI agree that Gears is overrated. I think it wouldn't have gotten such a high score except that it came out pretty early in this gen, now that the PS3 is out and both systems are producing graphics on the same level, thats become pretty much standard. And yes Bioshock was extremely overrated. (IMO)
