Even though the single player campaign was a little longer than the 1st Gears, I felt it wasn't as good. I think maybe there were too many gimmicks within the campaign. Control a tank, ride a reaver, ride a brumak. Hated those sections of the game. The storyline itself is better in GeoW 2, but the gameplay in several areas seemed less immersive imo. My favorite area of the game was the courtyard toward the end. I wish there were more areas like that. That immersed me much more than riding a freaking brumak.

But the MP took a step backwards.

I actually agree. The first one`s campaign was short, but I found myself enjoying it more. The story and such really wasn`t a draw to this series, and though it was improved in the second, it still wasn`t anything to write home about. The new weapons were meh, for the most part. I just didn`t find it as fun, ultimately. Still quite good though.

First time I played through the campaign in Gears 2 I thought it was worse than the first game. But I've started it again on hardcore and I'm collecting all the collectables and I'm enjoying it a lot more than my first time through. It really does have some nice levels and set pieces. And the harder difficulty makes it far more enjoyable as you can die very quickly if you don't think about what you are doing. I think it's better than the first game, and I agree, that last courtyard battle is awesome.

As Cliff would say, bigger badder, better.

Most Friday the 13th movies have been horrible, but I'm hoping this one resurrects the franchise in a good way. It has to be better than Jason Goes to Hell or Jason X. Ever watch that James Woods show "Shark"? (now cancelled). The girl (Danielle Panabaker) who plays his daughter in that show is the lead in the new movie. Although her acting isn't good, I think her acting skills will be beyond any female lead in a Friday the 13th movie.

Not a chance. The Gears 2 SP campaign is improved in just about every possible way; it's just better.

Maybe I need to play the 1st Gears again and compare. I like being on foot and ducking behind cover. Didn't like riding a tank, brumak, reaver, etc. It seemed like the 1st Gears had more on-foot action during the campaign.

Well, yes... growing in the 80's I used to love all Friday 13th movies, but after 1 point they started getting ridiculous and that peaked with Jason X, but I still watched it for the good ol times... and for some lulz.

And yes, I'm thinking about a fresh start here, more 2k settings and keeping a serious feeling to them, kinda like the Halloween remake :D

I think the campaign on the second was a little worse. This is probably only because the first was so different from anything else, but the second was very similar to the first, and didn't contain as many twists.

I didn't even like the first one, I actively disliked Gears of War as a franchise. But I picked this one up for the fun of it, and its one of my favorite games on the 360. The first game seriously was no good to me, but number 2 turned it all around. So no, I don't agree.

it was good but i felt like i had done it all before

it didnt have the wow factor of the first one because the first one was the first next gen game i played so the improvement (graphicly) between the ps2 and the 360 made me drop my jaw. but know when the second one released its not that much improved and had that been there done that feel to it.

Gears 1 kinda bored me throughout, but Gears 2 was pretty damn fun most of the time.

So no, I think Gears 2 campaign was much better.

I disagree, Gears of War 2 had way more memorable moments in its campaign than the original.

The only parts of the original that I remember are fighting RAAM, the Berserker, and a few other tidbits.

Gears 2 had the giant worm, the epic battle on those giant tank things, the battle with the crazy sea creature when you're on the raft, riding the Reaver/Brumak, etc.

nah, i thought the first one was ok, the story line had huge holes and didn't always make sense, where as in gears 2 the story was more fleshed out, it had sub plots, they didnt jump from one area to the next without explination (IE: mansion to the train in gears 1) and the fun level of the second one is HUGELY improved over gears 1. I mean, I loved gears 1, but gears 2 is improved in every way (except the online, which is patchable).

Gears 2's campaign was definitely better. The vehicular segments are a small portion of the campaign, and, with the exception of the Centaur Tank segment, are well done.

More importantly, the on-foot action is much more diverse and interesting. Gears 1 is basically doing the same sort of thing most of the way through, with a few exceptions (basically the Berserker and the Kryll stuff). Gears 2 moves through a lot of interesting areas, and it throws plenty of unique scenarios at you all the way through the game.

There's no doubt in my mind that the sequel improved the campaign.

I felt the absolute worst parts of the game were when you were riding vehicles, especially the Locust "vehicles" you ride. Just sucked.
