These are the some of the most intense scenes I have ever seen in a game.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I was more upset when Carmine died, but seriously Tai was a little weak. I was more interested in Dizzy's character. CleanPlayer
This. TC, MGS4 has the best cutscenes ;)
When i got up to that part i knew Dom was imagining Maria as her normal self because if she was held captive she wouldnt hav ereally looked all clean but when they really showed her i was like WTF NetYankEagleThe whole scene is just packed with emotion. Marcus knows Dom is hallucinating and then BAM, it was intense.

Am I the only one who found the whole Dom/Maria thing to be pretty meh all conisdered?Shafftehr

You are not alon ;). Best Gears Cutscene has to be when Carmine gets sniped.
Am I the only one who found the whole Dom/Maria thing to be pretty meh all conisdered?ShafftehrI don't know, I just felt it was very raw, and just filled with emotion, I mean there are games with better scenes out there but this one takes the cake in a long while
Lost Odyssey, MGS4 all top Gears 2 cutscenes. vashkey^This. Not to disrespect Gears 2, but LO and the Metal Gear series surpass it. I played through LO, No emotional moments really stick out for me except with the whole Sed, Seth thing at the end of the game

I played through LO, No emotional moments really stick out for me except with the whole Sed, Seth thing at the end of the game I thought Lyrum's death was pretty emotional.
And the scene in first person where Kaim see's his daughter jump off a cliff is like nothing else I've seen in a videogame.
Better than I expected, but...
These don't even come close to the ending of Half Life 2 Episode 2 as far as shooters go.
I personally thought the idea was ehhhhhh okay.....but the execution was horrible...
I felt no emotion whatsoever during the two scenes....especially tai's that scene felt like it was slapped on.
Roffle. IMO these are much better. HL2 had a great ending, HL2 Ep 2 had a terrible one as far as I recall... "I really like the maria scene, but overall, i think MGS4 and the other MGS games have better cutscenes." Highly agreed. However, MGS tends to have truly awful cutscenes in similar abundance as I noted earlier.Better than I expected, but...

Don't tell me that gun fire shot, was
Dom killing himself
I still haven't played the game yet :?haris12121212Lets just say that it is definitely not Dom.Â
What are these guys, film directors? Actors? Give me a break, if they look like human beings, act like them, and follow a generally robust story arch with decent plot development, they've done their job and then some. I FELT NO EMOTION IN GEARS OF WAR 2!!! I think you're missing the point. Gears of War is the name of the game. Chainsaw bayonets were its main draw before the "emotion" thing came along.I personally thought the idea was ehhhhhh okay.....but the execution was horrible...

Oh, make no mistake, the characters in GeoW 2 look as flat as a piece of cardboard, especially this Dom guy and his hunt for his wife. Completely one-dimensional. Kill kill kill, says Marcus. Wifey wifey wifey, says Dom. It's really asinine. But HL2 wasn't really any better in my experience....no game in the series has yet given you a single character you can feel attached to, besides....um, maybe Dog?Better than I expected, but...

The only thing good about the cutscenes were the graphics. Gears 2 is pretentous, melodramatic, and laughable. MGS4 has the best cutscenes IMO (and by popular belief).Episode_EvePicture Otacon sobbing. Do it. Then try writing your comment again. You won't be able to get through the first sentence.

The sum of MGS's narrative outweighs moments that you may not like. MGS is known for it's portrayed emotion. It's not forced, sometimes anime-esque sure. The point is. Gears 2 is far from having a pleasing and emotional narrative and presentation. MGS is the best IMO.
PS. Otacon has always been a sensitive character. Even peed his pants in MGS1 :P.

He sure did. God, I hate him. Lol, he's a pansy. But also a fornicator and an oblivious ladies man. Not every character can be BA like Snake. That's what I like about MGS, it's wide range of personalities.
What are these guys, film directors? Actors? Nahhhhhhhhhhh, I still think they failed....the same way the meryl and akiba scene failed........ chainsaw or not, they ventured into the emo field and they sucked.
cheesy attempt at making me feel.......but Good game none the less...
I was more upset when Carmine died, but seriously Tai was a little weak. I was more interested in Dizzy's character. CleanPlayeryeah, I wish they fleshed out those characters more before they killed them off. Now if Dom died, then maybe I would have cared a little bit more. Why? Because he was likeable and you really got to know him over the course of two games (through dialogue and such).
I haven't it played it yet (though I want to very badly), but I really doubt it has the best cutscenes ever. I just can't see it, no matter how much they've improved since Gears 1.TreyoftheDeadtrust me you will change your mind once you have played it, the strory line is completely different to the first one the cutscenes are like scenes from a blockbuster movie, it was a really good idea to bring dom's quest for maria into the story, not to mention the voice acting is top notch, wait till you see the cutscene when cole first meets up with delta.

The voice acting (aside from emotional moments) and graphics were about the only thing to praise about Gears 2's narrative. I was indifferent about Gears 1's story because it wasn't there. My mind has definitely been changed about it since I've played the sequel (and it's not for the better). The direction is poor, there exists nonsense motives, empty plot points, the nature of the game's universe negates supposed emotions, it's pretentious, and melodramatic.
Epic did themselves in as far as I'm concerned by hyping the story and narrative. They even went as far as comparing it to The Dark Knight (as in its a blockbuster with a deep and involving story). Sorry Epic, gameplay is what you're good at.

that's your opinion, when dom found maria i actually felt a little tug at the heart strings, MGS cutscenes are long winded 500 word essays and they are so analytical it take's away all emotion, and the more emotional scenes in MGS are just laughable "i never wore make up...." and there are so may cliches "the only hero's i know are dead or in prison......." with MGS it's conspiracy this, conspiracy that in gears it's just WAR and some of us actually profer a more simple engaging storyline that only drags you out of the game as long as it has too.

I was more upset when Carmine died, but seriously Tai was a little weak. The most and only emotional scenes have little to no dialogue in MGS4.
The microwave segment and Snake's recollection in the cemetery.
Cliches are bound to exist in a game with the magnitude of MGS4 (even the greatest of films have them). But the substance, story, and diverse and entertaining characters greatly outweigh those minor flaws. It's one thing to include them, and another to consist entirely of them. As far as calling it soley "conspiracy theories"; that contradicts the explanation and culmination of the twisting plot and motives of the series that MGS4 laid rest with Snake's story. And you know, MGS is about war as well. One with social, political, and economic commentary relating to the real world and future.Â
PS. I laughed at the essay comment.
Epic should have fleshed out the characters more before killing them. I mean honestly how am I supposed to feel bad for Tai if I hardly know the guy?
Why does Epic bring in all these new characters if they're just going to kill/ignore them?
Carmine: Dies
Tai: Dies
Dizzy: Disappears after first act
Chairman Prescott: Makes one speech at the beginning of the game...that's about it.
