Gears of war 2 vs Resistance 2

What do you guys think? I'm asking pple who've played or own both.

My first impressions on both of them so far, resistance has better graphics, it's more exciting to play because the chimera will actually rush you, and its scary as ****. Gears relies heavily on cover. The boss fights have been incredible, and to me is a far better improvement from the first then gears 2 is to its first.

i havent finished either and ive stopped playing resistance to finish gears, then resistance soon after. I'll be back with a fuller report.

What are your first impressions/final impressions of both games?

Gear has better graphics, but I think Resistance overall is the funner game. The coop isthe best thing about it

R2Coop>Gears Horde>Gears SP>R2competitive> R2 SP> Gears competitive IMO

I just played Gears of War 2 for the first time a few hours ago. Overall, I was extremely bored, but this is coming from someone who didn't like the first one.

I commend the game for not looking completely gray, like the first one. I also didn't think the storyline was that bad, either, and blasting apart enemies could be satisfying. I just got tired of the gameplay quickly. It wasn't for me.

I haven't played Resistance 2 yet, though.

Just beat Gears 2. R2 is the better game by far. Gears makes you wait forever to get an online match going and people just quit. The single player is just duck, cover, shot, rinse and repeat. Nothing new and nothing really jaw dropping. The game looks almost entirely grey. It might as well be Grey of War.

R2 shoulda got a 9.5 compared to Gears. But that's just my opinion.

i like gears more, there are plenty of great fps's to play, but not as many great tps. gears is a breath of fresh breath online coming from cod4 and halo 3.

but really i wouldnt compare a tps to an fps , besides the shooting they are very very different.

why cant i say that one is more exciting than the other? resistance is more exciting, the chimera is scarier then the locust and much more intelligent and agressive. gears of war on difficult is pretty friggin easy. on resistance it actually is difficult.

playing gears on insane is not easy..... try horde mode on insane see how far you get lol

Can't comment on R2's mulitplayer since I haven't played it yet, but the single player is disappointingly generic. It's very clear that they spent alot of their resources on multiplayer and co-op.

Go through tight area and come up on large, more open area which begins to swarm with chimera. Once you clear the area, go into the next small area for a slight breather. Come across a new weapon. Guess what, you'll need that weapon to clear the next area. The game sticks to that formula for the most part. The big epic "boss" battles are scripted set pieces.

Gears 2 just seems more intelligently paced and less forced.

There is no need to be "vs"

I really liked Gears 2, but it felt even shorter than the first one, but was an awesome ride. Resistance is a much longer game, but not quite as fun as Gears. I beat Gears 2 in one day, and have yet to beat resistance 2. Gears felt really easy too. I'm gonna try playing on insane and hopefully thats a better challenge. All i needed was the sniper rifle in Gears 2, and it was a cake walk. R2 is very challenging. The AI is not as smart as they were in the first game, but they just throw so many enemies at you at once its ridiculous.

Oh, I feel I should mention, The Gears 2 many enemies on screen thing is a rip off. Nothing has changed from the first game where they throw only about 5 enemies at you at a time. When they do have a lot of locusts on screen, they are far away low res models with basically no AI. You can mow them down, but its not how they made it out to be. Resistance has the enemies all up in your face, and there are tons of them at once.

I like both games, But resistance offers more game for the money. Gears 2 is a quick bundle of awesomeness. Both are worth the price, but R2 gives you more.

Resistance 2 is the superior game. But standards for FPS's are much higher than standards for TPS's, if Gears was an FPS its review scores would be lower than Resistance 2.

!0 player online is a joke, its Co-op is a joke compared to Resistance 2's awesome 8 player Co-op and I found Resistance 2 to be much more challenging and fun SP wise.

Only thing Gears 2 has on Resistance 2 is graphics (both of them look nice anyway). The stupidest thing about Gears 2 for me was the attempt at implementing a good story, turned out to be an epic fail. I mean I loled at Dom when he got pissed at the locusts and grunted something about wanting to kill every one of them. There was ZERO emotion in his voice lol he could have been Microsoft Sam for all I knew. At least Insomniac didnt bother trying to make Resistance 2 emotional. I mean how sympathetic can one be with two miserable Knuckleheads like Hale and Marcus?

Both are good games however and I think 9.0 was spot on for both. I still believe Resistance 2 is better though.

Better graphics than Gears 2? Just lost all credibility right there.

But anyways, Gears 2 trumps R2 in the single player department, and Horde is worth more than any MP mode on R2 anyday.

You have to be kidding Me the weapons in Resistance 2 are not even on the level of the weapons in Gears of War 2 . the Lancer destroys any all weapons that Resistance 2 has .

After playing both, i have to say that Resistance 2 is better. I think it achieved much more over it predecessor than Gears 2 does because R2 really shows off the power of the bluray because of the sheer about of enemies onscreen at the same time, meanwhile having realistic ballistics (hedgehog grenade), meanwhile Gears really didnt improve much from the first game, especially the meathead characters.

And for those saying Horde is so great, have you ever played a multiplayer game with enemies coming at you in successive waves? Cmon its not that original, whereas R2s class system and 8 person Coop are much more original and fun to play.
