Gears of War 4 Release Date Confirmed (October 11th)

Gears of War 4 will launch worldwide for Xbox One on October 11, developer The Coalition has announced. Community director Adam Fletcher said the reveal was part of "a chain of upcoming revelations about what's in store for JD Fenix and the next generation of Gears heroes."

Gears of War 4's story follows Marcus Fenix's son and two other new characters. It takes place over the span of 24 hours. The Coalition has said that the game will draw inspiration from the first game in the series when it comes to tone.

"Harkening back to the dark and intense roots of the original classic, fans can expect a familiar, yet distinct evolution of gameplay, including brutal and intimate action, a heart-pounding campaign, genre-defining multiplayer and stunning visuals powered by Unreal Engine 4."

Gears of War 4's multiplayer beta on Xbox One is scheduled to start on April 18. To be part of this, you'll need to play Gears of War Ultimate Edition on Xbox One or PC by April 11. Beta tokens will begin to be sent out on April 18, though Microsoft didn't say who will get codes first or how long it may take for all codes to go out. After the "early access" period ends on April 24, all Xbox Live Gold members can play through May 1.

In an interview with EW, the official Gears of War 4 box art for the game was also released.

Really looking forward to this, the presentation for the game sets it up as something much darker and more gritty.

Seriously, can't wait to see and experience the new Gears story, locations, weapons and characters etc. This gun b good. :D

I need to finish all the other ones before picking this up.

Be a good game for Fall. LEts see if PC version comes out with it or down the road.

After the last Gears, this has a good chance of being as good as QB.

Different developers, this studio is also being led by Rod Fergusson from Epic.

I felt the same way until Gears 3 dropped as a BC game for X1. Playing through that rekindled my love for the series and pushed Gears 4 way up my list of must have games. :)

Potentially Horizon, Drawn to Death and The last Guardian. But of course, none have confirmed dates yet, but announced for this year.

Just looked up drawn to death. That game looks way too awesome.

I don't like the art style, but it's a cool concept.

I was hoping for Horizon: Zero Dawn as a fall release date and Speaking of The Last Guardian, that seems to be flying under the radar, AGAIN.

different developers for starters and Judgement scored 79 on Metacritic and it's actually a great game when you don't compare it to the rest of the franchise.

I'll be keeping an eye on it, but it isn't a launch game for me. Especially with Final Fantasy XV on September 30, my gaming during that period of time will be full up!

I wouldn't doubt that one or both of these will get pushed into 2017.

I reckon it will be awesome if they live up to there promise and draw all there inspiration from the first game.

I agree though, it did get a bit long in the tooth but i think thats a problem with Pure TPS in general, not just gears.

That's possible too. We'll learn more at E3 hopefully.

Ans Gears UE was a good remaster.

I played the beta few months ago, it was terrible

they need to modernize the cover system like they did in Watchdogs, Ghost recon future soldier and splinter cell conviction.

you point at cover then a single button press takes you there, the current cover system it uses feels so outdated.

More good news plus if you haven't heard it kept split screen MP as well.....

That cover art makes the game look lame. Some generic white guy, an out of place black dude, and a forced in female character.

Not only that, the black guy on the far right almost looks like he's holding a baby carrier.

@sts106mat: Yeah I wasn't trying to be racist or anything like that, it just looks like a baby carrier but I do see it's some kind of blade disc launcher like though. I also see the Lancer is coming back but come-on, I'm sure Coalition can come up with something better then the Lancer. Lancer was soooo last-gen.

Been waiting for the MP beta to see what is new. But I still expect the game to be similar to the feel of Gears. Its not like I am expecting Uncharted 4 to suddenly be a whole new type of game.

For sure. I have no idea. I just assumed it was Coalition, but you might be right.
