Gears of War --- Be honest lemmings...

I really liked GeOW. In fact, I like it a lot more than the Halo franchise. But, I've read a lot of hate lately on GeOW, and seen a lot of doubt about GeOW 2. Very, very few lemmings doubted Halo 3 (although I think it is highly overrated). When GeOW first arrived, I remember nothing but praise from lemmings. Not so anymore. So, I have to wonder lemmings. Did you play GeOW just to fill some sort of empty void before Halo 3 arrived? Because I'm sure not seeing the hype with GeOW 2. GeOW sold really well, and I'm just not seeing much excitement for GeOW 2. However, even though Halo 2 had issues, people were excited about Halo 3. So, was GeOW just something to play to make the wait for Halo 3 a little less painful? Or were you genuinely interested in GeOW?

That was all hype based on graphics. Halo 3 had an all around hype with gameplay, graphics, online, etc. The ONLY hype from GeOW 2 is the graphics. Also, I've read plenty of posts lately saying that GeOW 1 sucked. You will rarely read that about Halo...

People's opinion change overtime and there have been plenty of Halo 3 bashing before. I guess the reason why Gears was so well recieved was that it was a "true" next-gen title, graphically.

I own a 360. I own gears of war and love it death. I do NOT own halo 3 because I think it's a piece of crap. I don't have any doubts for gears of war 2, other than the way Epic recently screwed over the UT series.

Ok, let me go back to my original question then. For example...Saints Row. A lot of people admittedly bought Saints Row as "filler" before GTA IV. I'm just wondering if that is what happened with GeOW. Yes, GeOW is not a 1st person shooter, but the hype for the game was there. I remember reading many posts before GeOW released trying to compare it to Halo. Or people asking "is this the Halo killer?". Nah it's just that lemmings can wait for games. For cows all you see is "omg I can't wait for MGS4!", "Haze is gonna own all shooters!", "Resistance 2 is gonna be crazy!", "Killzone 2 will be the true Halo killer!", "Final Fantasy XIII will be the best RPG ever!" and so on. So far you can only see a few posts from lemmings about upcoming games but it doesn't even come close to how much hype threads there is for cows.

Gears wasn't as groundbreaking as everyone claimed it to be and it has a very cardboard story, but it's fun, and has replayability.

Well I remember around the time Halo 3 was going to be released and after it was released a lot of Xbox 360 fans basically labeled Gears of War as crap or mediocre. Hell I made a thread about What if Gears of War scores higher than Halo 3? and basically everyone said no it won't because Gears of War was a mediocre game and Halo 3 will be amazing. Now that Halo 3 has been out for quite some time, the ones who scolded Gears for the sake of Halo 3 need something new to get hyped for and for some of them Gears of War 2 is that game. Personally I'm hyped for Gears of War 2 because I enjoyed the first game.smokeydabear076
