Gears of War Ultimate Edition for PC Stealth launch; Disastrous for AMD

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on PC releases today exclusively to the Windows 10 Store. It should have been another prominent feather in Microsoft'sMSFT -0.82% DirectX 12 cap. Instead, it’s one of the most disastrous PC game launches in years, and many AMD Radeon owners are advised to steer completely clear during the game’s launch window.

You do realize there are a number of factors that determines the performance of a game on the hardware you should actually learn about technology before speaking. Early benchmarks in DX12 actually show AMD with better performance than Nvidia.

Didn't care about gears on the xbox, certainly don't care about it on the PC. lol@AMD users, can't wait for their spinning. :P

That's quite unfortunate to hear. I was hoping Microsoft would have taken a better direction with this release. Not looking good for them and their PC gaming promises.

While it sucks that AMD users are getting shafted yet again, and I'm doubly perplexed because this is a game that had to be prepared for consoles using only AMD hardware, to a very limited extent I can understand why optimizing for AMD's cards is not considered worth the trouble unless people really complain. It's about market penetration and AMD's near total lack of it. For every consumer GPU AMD sells, Nvidia sells four. If they have a raft of GPU-specific complaints, solving the Nvidia problems is thus four times more urgent than the equivalent AMD complaints.

The game runs like crap if you have adaptive sync on with the game. The solution, AMD or Nvidia, is to use a Fixed Refresh Rate for the game and disable G-Sync/FreeSync.

The game runs fine on Nvidia because Nvidia forced FIXED REFRESH RATE for Gears of War Ultimate within their driver. AMD hasn't released an update but you can do it yourself. This is the reason why the Radeon R9 370 doesn't have an issue, it doesn't support FreeSync at all.

How the f*ck do you screw up a game that was created for AMD hardware?

Well, this is a remake. It looks like Gears of War to me.

I think Quantum Break will be a better example. As that will be truly built from the ground up.

But I don't want to make excuses here. I'm also really starting to wonder which true benefits DX12/Windows 10/Windows store actually hold.

Would not suprise me if MS deliberately fucked with AMD because of Vulkan.
