The GeForce 9 series is just a complete rehash of the 8 series. the 9800GTX has only 512MB of memory, And is only 10% to 15% faster then the 8800GTX.

I was expecting a bit more from the 9 series. Only the 9600GT seems like a good addition to the GPU lineup.

Yea but I was secretly hopeing for a huge jump now, because I'm off to Univirsity in September, Unless I take out a loan (not really smart) just to upgrade again I probably wont be in the position to do so for 3 years.

But wel see :P

Hmm...now I'll need to see how the 8800's price down with this information. Also, what of DirectX 10.1 compatibility?

Im hoping 9800GTS > 8800gts(G92) and puts out less heat, while needing less power.

Nvidia certainly streched their tech so much with the 8 series its no wonder the 9 series isnt much further ahead.

The 8 series is already grossly overpowered anyway.

Guess this means my 8800Gt will last a while longer.

agreed, my 8800 only has trouble with crysis, but its still playable on high and i finished the campaign already, so no need to upgrade for that.

the 9800 is not a huge leap in terms of performance, the 9600 on the other hand is way better than the 8600, even the GTS, thats the real affordable powerhouse, i guess pc gaming is getting cheaper and cheaper

It's a strange trend: PC hardware prices are lower than before, yet with each new gen of consoles get more expensive each generation.

And it's strange because console hardware is dependent on PC hardware.

Sweet, this means that the cost of upgrading to a high-end PC will be even cheaper than the current $600 - $800. :D

Still means I have to pay about RM2500 though!

I need to overhaul EVERYTHING. CPU, Processor, Video Card, HDD, PSU, etc.

That does include a motherboard - I haven't got a PCIe slot.

Me, too. I gotta get everything but the hard drives, monitor, and case. I just locked down a preorder on the Q9450 (gotta do it now because of high demand) and will probably have to go to the Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R for a mobo, a 2x2GB pair, a decent 600W PSU, and Vista Home Premium. Only remaining question mark is the video card. Thankfully, this'll be last on the shopping list (not a heavy gamer--mostly upgrading for the boost in media work).

So basically the 9800GTX is an overclocked 8800GTX? Not worth the money IMO, I'l wait for the 10 series or see what ATI has to offer in their HD 5 series, this card will last me a long time.

On a whole PC games havent gotten much more demanding in the last few years. Besides Crysis.

So many games are built around 2 year old tech. Console popularity is actually helping pc gamers hardware last longer. Stalker Clear Sky in dx10 mode should give the 8800's a challenge.

Kinda sucks what little performance increase there is here. Prettymuch just optomized 8800s. I'll probably just wait till they come out and get a cheap 8800GT or GTS. Guess we'll have to wait for the 10000 (or whatever) series for the next real massive performance increase cause this was kind of a joke. I mean they're leaving it wide open for AMD/ATI to catch back up here.

I plan to get the 9600 with my new computer, since it was given a lot of praise and it's affordable. As others have said, the 'high-end' 9-series cards aren't that better than previous ones like the 8800.

Actually, since the 360 is still being directly supported with new games tailored to its hardware it is anything but obsolete. Whereas the 7 series of Nvidea's cards are not OBSOLETE, but they sure ain't useful anymore.

Do you know anything about PCs, or are you just another fanboy pretending they know what they are talking about? Please explain how a 7 series isn't "useful anymore"... Here is a hint, my brother plays COD4 on a 6 series nvidia card.

Sounds good. I currently have a Geforce 7950. I might upgrade to the dual core gpu but just like with the 8 series, what games besides Gears and Crysis are coming out that I would want to play on my PC? Last game I played on my PC was Portal and Episode 2. (And Crysis)

Here is a hint, my brother plays COD4 on a 6 series nvidia card.

yeah, the 6 series is still decent enough to play games. I may be gaming on a 8800GT at the moment, but my 6600GT still plays most (if not all) games currently available.
