All these terms should sound very familiar to you. The're used to describe Halo, Killzone, The Conduit, Modern Warfare and many other shooters. People constantly bring up the fact that nothing has changed and it being the least innovative genre. I ask myself what these ungrateful infidels actually want.

So my question is, what the dingledangle do you actually want you? What so called "innovation" that would be so AWESOME but isn't in today's FPS?

Was too easy too pass up :P For me, some of the most 'innovative' games this gen were The World Ends With You and Mirror's Edge because they were new IP's and brought some difference to the world of video game.

More variation in level and enemy design, interesting new gameplay mechanics, increased focus on storytelling, reduced reliance on scripted events and reduced linearity would all be things I think could help improve the genre for me.

Pretty much that. What we want is something that's fresh, Mirror's Edge and Crysis also done something differently.

Well CoD has gone down the drain, and The Conduit didn't turn out to well by the looks of it, but Halo is pretty good, they havn't completely killed it's potential yet. Never played Killzone 2 outside the demo. These are examples of fairly good FPS games though, what we need rid of is the crap that you didn't mention that bring all the good FPS games down. Except for CoD of course, which can go to hell. I'm not paying more than the standard RRP for a game that wont be any better than it's predessecors.

Some original concepts would be nice though. There are far too many games with marine/alien cliches. Modern settings are seriously dull. I like the World War 2 era, but there are too many games from that already. Basically FPS games that arn't about some massive war would be good for a change. Not that there arn't games like that, just that there are far too many that arn't.

I'd like the game to not be about soldiers and space marines, they're very rarely interesting and there is nothing wrong with them being linear but just good pacing and level design if they are.

Crysis is innovative. Nano-suit FTW. I think KZ2's cover system is pretty innovative, and Warzone online play is definitely innovative. TF2's class system is pretty innovative. Forge in Halo 3, is pretty innovative. Resistance 2's co-op is innovative. COD4's perks and class system are innovative. See? I can list innovations right off the top of my head in the FPS genre, so stop bashing it FPS haters.

Honestly, I want to see more sex scenes in my FPS's. That's something that is really missing.

I don't think there is a serious lack of innovation in FPS. It's just that I'm sick of the sight of FPS's in general.

either you only have a very limited exposure to fps (and are confined to console), or have no idea what youre talking about, because none of those games were innovative, save the nano-suit from crysis and even that is debatable.

i dont see why people care about fps innovating. i just want a good game. the bueaty of fps is that you can get one fantastic game like quake 3, team fortress classic or counterstrike and play it for years. this might not have anything to do with innovation, and everything to do with being a quality game. ill take an extremely polished, fun game with great replay value like tf2 over a muddled mess of 'innovation' like mirrors edge.

Do the opposite of what Modern rehash is doing and your set IMO. Halo 3, Killzone 2 to some extent Resistance 2 all did something to differentiate itself from the pack, while generic garbage like MAG and CoDMW2 just copy and rehash from something in the past.

I wasn't trying to claim that they were the first games to do what they did... but they were innovative in the way they were implemented compared to most games.

I didn't enjoy it that much. Maybe when it's down to 20$, which is soon judging from how much it sold so far.

Some posters here had even called STALKER generic. STALKER? Generic? The problem isn't the genre, the problem is that a lot of people use the word very very loosely.
