For me.

Racing Games

Sims, Arcade, Anything. I hated racing games. I never found enjoyment in them as a kid. I just saw them as repetitive, boring and silly. Get a fast car, soup up, race, win. Same old Same old to me. They weren't that exciting and I could care less about them.

now I love them.

I fell in love with Forza and Forza 2. I adore the Burnout series, and PGR3+4 are still two of my favorite 360 games. I guess I realized the beuty of driving a perfect course, and how to really get power out of the cars, or in Burnout's case, boosting through an entire lap at 209 MPH.

I used to hate that genre but now i love it.

What say you?

I used to hate RPGs as a kid, partially because I thought they were to complicated and to slow paced for me. Although I don't care for this genre to much right now, just a few years ago I loved this genre above all else. I played the hell out of FFVII-FFX and several RPGs and thought they were great. I haven't really played an RPG recently that really did it for me though, the last good one to be released was Oblivion.

Survival Horror games. i used to be terrified of them. i remember one time me and my best friend were playing Silent Hill 2 in the dark at 1:00 AM. every once in a while we'd take turns playing while the one who wasn't playing just watched in fear. at one point we both we way to scared to even touch the controller, so we just turned it off then played a nice game of bingo.

now i can't get enough of horror games.

Shooters, I used to think they were creepy and dumb. Now I cant seem to get enough!, also RPG, but it was because I was a too young to undertand many things and felt boring, almost like reading a novel, but now I love them.

I got the first Final Fantasy for the NES when i was about 10 years old. I beat the game also with pretty much only 3 characters! I didnt know that the black belt/master should fight bare handed so i left the iron nunchuks equipped the entire game! :(

I don't know if you'd term it as an RPG but I played the hell out of LucasArts Point-and-Click games like the Indiana Jones one for example. Thus, I was not put off by the text even at a very young age.

RPGs. Honestly I didn't really even know what they were about, just that the geeks constantly talked about them in school and people laughed at them. Then I tried Fallout and loved it more that any game before or after and was like "what? this is what RPGs are? damn!"

Also RTS, all the nerds I disliked were playing CnC on school's computers and I felt obligated to hate everything they were associated with. Only really saw the light with Starcraft and AoE2 when I was old enough to admit that it's not cool to hate things just because they aren't considered cool by other people.

I quite used to dislike shooters in general as they just didn't appeal to me. Perhaps that had something to do with the fact that whenever I got a chance to play them I would get owned by my older brothers. I don't have fond memories of Perfect Dark and Goldeneye 64 for that reason:D

Well Western RPG's come to mind. I used to hate being thrown into a world and having to find out everything yourself. Currently I've enjoyed them a lot more and actually JRPG's which I liked as a kid are boring now.

You mean The Witcher. A simple mistake.

Gamespot's written review for The Witcher is immature in an American kind of way, but they give it a similar score to other reviewers.
