Horde in Gears 2 is the most brilliant MP addition for any sequal to date. Of course we have a contender, that being R2 co-op but I'll argue for the former.
+Horde has more replayability: Horde can be played on any map, this include the 15 maps that came with the game, and any future map releases. Since game play changes with every single map and on different difficulties, the variety of gameplay is much greater than R2-co-op.
+Horde fits in more naturally with game style: R2 co-op is forced. Basically creating the 3 separate classes forces co-op elements. Gears 2 Horde fits in naturally because Co-op elements are inherent with Gears gameplay. There are no classes, but it is every player's duty to recue downed players. The variety of roles is covered through using different weapons, but roles are fluid and any player can take up such positions; in the end the synergy is still the same.
In campain players learn to use different weapons such as the mortor/shotgun and realize that its functions are limited. Mortor needs protection, and shotgunning needs cover fire. The natural weakness/strength of weapon styles require players to accomadate in natural ways. There is no synesetic division of classes. In this way the gameplay feels more fluid and diverse.Â
+Horde has more variation: There are way more enemy types in Gears 2 than Resistance 2. Lets admit it but shooting has a large part to do with the types of enemies you fight. I cant even begin to name all the different enemy types for Horde, but having more gives the gameplay more kick.
Variation is present in R2 because of the different classes you play ass, but it also works against itself because the position you play also dictate the style. You're fixed in the way you play for the duration of the game.
Gameplay is dynamic in Horde and the team synergy can change at anytime depending on the situation. Against a particular wave of enemy, one player much become the artillery expert while other players morph their style to become defenders. In contrast, a medic will always be a medic.Â
>>Bottom line: Horde mode is a brilliant addition to GeOW2 because it fits in so naturally and it allows player to enjoy the best of what the game has to offer by providing the dynamic and variant conditions for this to happen in.Â
Horde > R2 co-op.Â
