Wow it's just a trailer but Epic knows one thing ND don't realize.....that Motion Blur makes a game look realistic. Most top Graphical develpers know this (Epic, Crytek, Geurilla Games, etc) But ND and Dice(consoles) still don't realize this. And no Motion Blur is not just to cover up Framerate issues, because Motion blur cost a whole lot itself, so why would developers add it to an already suffering game? It's all Artistic and really UC2's camera based motion Blur is very very outdated, even new PS3 exclusives have updated their camera; Resistance 3, Twisted Metal

So, is the blur in GeoW 3 to hide graphical flaws?

I hate motion blur with a passion. I turn it off in any game I can, because it does nothing but make the picture worse.

Why are you comparing trailers anyway.

Because these Trailers might represent what Next gen Graphics will look like

But...they're trailers. They are not made to represent next-gen graphics. We already know how Epic invisions it with Samaritan, and DICE is ushering in next-gen with Battlefield 3 on PC.

I don't know, but I think they both look amazing. Personally I think UC3 looks better, but it doesn't matter. Unless your into pixel counting than I don't see the point. And I think Motion Blur get's kind of annoying sometimes, but I doubt that's the only thing that makes Gears 3 look great. I'm sure there are other reasons aswell...

Most the time Motion Blur is not very good imo.

There is the odd game that does it well but mostly devs seem to over use it

So it's cool in gears and lame in killzone 2 .....hmmmmm , I think it's an awesome feature if well implemented , and both gears 3's and kz2's motion blur make'em look even better.

I wonder that myself, I mean people seem to REALLY hate/love these two games. Personally I don't see how they are similar, yes Unhcarted does have a 3rd person shooting/cover system like Gears (Naughty Dog admitted they were inspired by the Gears combat mechanic) but aside from that what else do they have in common?

Gears is about big guys fighting for humanity's survival, and Uncharted is about popcorn movie like Treasure Hunting gameplay. They don't play alike IMO.

I think motion blur adds to the intensity when done correctly. When its not, its a pain and an obvious attempt to hide flaws

the camera bluris fine, but the per object blur is over the top. I mean to the point where the characters literally blur for a few seconds when in motion

goes to show that the 360 and Gears hid their graphical flaws through motion blur. rofl everytime they're running it blurs the models to hell and back.

Uncharted 3 has motion blur as well, but not as overly done as in Gears 3. just look at Drake's legs as he falls out of the argo plane. there's some per object blur on his legs and arms.

I like motion blur. Many games make fantastic use of it, like the Witcher 2, Crysis, and Crysis 2. I would love to see ND implement per object motion blur.

ND does use per object mption Blur, one of the first after KZ2 and waay ahead of Epic Games. It's just that when Epic finally found out what per object blur is, they loved it so much that they full blast it @ 100% settings

They have some motion blur in 2, they removed some of it in 3 (At least judging by the beta of 3). They don't add it because they don't have anything to cover up ;)

Not sure if serious. Uncharted uses triple buffering to hide its screen tearing, but in the end that causes issues. Gears didn't really have any flaws except S.T which where resolved on a later build.

lol "hide"? you mean stop. because you can't hide screen tearing. it's either there or it isn't. i'd give up in-game lip synching (and it's not even noticeable) for zero screen tearing. besides, no one really noticed it because UC2 did it so well. all this talk about motion blur like it's superior at all.

let's just wait 'til November to see Uncharted kick Gears to the curb. come november and all these fanboys will be quiet again.

Yeah, basically examining the current environmental for both games. Gears has no chance to flop, and Uncharted is absolutely set up for failure. But that doesn't mean it will, but ND is going to have to do a lot.

Eh I think it's alright if you can't get to 60 fps (most console games.) Halo Reach does it pretty well, but I much prefer having the smoother gameplay of 60 fps than motion blur.

This thread reminds me of Reach's horrible blur. Motion blur can be neat if done well, but it is of low importance to me and I honestly don't really pay attention to it unless it's bad like Reach.

Anyway, when mb is done right, its great. When its bad(RE3) than we are better without it.KZ2 also overused it IMO...

Yeah, it is definitly over used, and mostly to hide flaw/shortcuts in the graphical department. I don't mind it that much--it is the BLOOM effect which makes some games hard to play.

Yap,it makes game look "filmic".Crysis 2 has great use of motion blur too,and their bokeh is great.Basically,if post processing is done right it can make a game look much, much better.

First, that trailer is both kewl and also not gameplay but a cut scene or made for trailer scene.

Second, blur done right looks great, per object, determined by speed and so on. Gears looks to do it right so far. Unlike some games that go way overboard and full screen blur everything (ahem fable 3)
