Fact of the matter is that they were compensated with the original purchase of the game, besides, laws are in place that say when I buy a new game it's mine, and I can do whatever I want to with that copy.

Also, I can't begin to count how many games I've traded in to buy new ones, and without that I would have never bought as many new games.

There's also the fact that I've bought a used game in the past and liked it enough to buy the sequel new when that released.

Please get over it! Used game sales aren't crippling the industry at all!

the game industry needs to become like the movie industry where they all pretty much agreed on ensuring they all make money off rentals and such

But the video game industry is WAYYYY more competitive than movie industry. In the movie industry, most of them are making so much money they dont even bother each other!

HSo used games is much worse than piracy, with piracy chances are the user would NEVER have ever bought the game and given the dev money. With used games that is a guaranteed 100% loss of profit considering the person is forking over money to them

The used market is good in a lot of ways, but pretending that it doesn't hurt developers is asinine.

I'm sure developers and publishers agree with you completely and that is why some of them have begun forcing people who buy games used extra money to access certain features that people who buy the games new get for free.

there is no difference from a used and a new copy other then mabye teh case is a bit worn, but you still get teh same game, i know a lot of people are like but but cars... different market and new cars replace brocken cars, so the used market works. With a game new doesn't just outright replace old. A dev makes a game and it turns out its not very popular, the used games circulate around and few new ones get purchased, so where do they get funding for new games?

The easiest way I can put this is that people only look at the bad side most of the time.

I just wanted to list some ways that developers still make their money, and we still benefit.

These developers probably never looked at the situations I said in the beginning.

This logic applies to piracy as well. Nearly every excuse i have seen about used games not hurting the industry can be refitted for piracy, yet piracy is regarded with disdain. So why shouldn't used game sales? Apart from the menial excuse that they are legal.

The catch 22 is that if we can only buy new games then we won't be able to buy as many. People will think at lot harder, and make fewer purchases; I know I would. I think the developers wouldn't benefit as much as they think they will because many new games are purchased with trade-ins from old games, and a good about of the time the games being traded in are games that aren't sold new anymore; therefore the developers aren't really losing out on anything.

A lost sale is a lost sale. No way to argue against it. I like used games as the other guy but its just sheer obstinacy to refuse to admit that used sales hurt developers. If you find yourself unable to buy as much games as you would have liked, then perhaps focusing more on your job and other real life priorities and commitments are what is really needed, not your gaming hobby.

Care to elaborate? If you're going to bring up articles about developers complaining those are opinions not facts.

I'm just going to add to this that when a person goes into a store wanting to buy a game yet chooses the used copy over the new copy. That is a lost sale due to the fact that the person came in with the intention to buy a game.
