Because lemmings get a regular lambasting for having games upscaled, so why is the PS3 doing the same thing so amazing?
I don't recall the last time a lemming got a "lambasting" for playing upscaled games. Whatever, I don't even care anymore, I just wanted to see how "amazing" the GoW2 graphics are to the tc.

The specific reason cows bashed the 360's upscaling was because Lemmings were hyping new "1080p" 360 games as comparable to the native 1080p titles on the PS3 (of which there still aren't many...). Basically, though, everyone on SW is a hypocrite.
It would be nice if there was some kind of emulator in PS3's FW that would render the games in 1080p native, but this will certainly be an improvement over what we used to have. :)
The only thing it does is upscale the resolution. The textures are still 256*256 etc. It does look nicer but its not amazing. Always nice to get something you didnt have before though.
I know that you can play God of War 2 in progressive scan at about 480P. Does the update look better than that? I'll try it tomorrow since I lent my PS3 to my friend so he can try out Resistance with his brothers. I just hope you're not exagerating about how great the graphics look because I hate getting my hopes up. Alright then...later.
A coule of noticable games with the smoother is FFX and Xenosaga 3. The jags are smoothed and and the game is tolerable to play and watch now. It's a very nice addition. Although I have yet to try PS1 games. -shudders that thought-

It's recommended that you do not use progressive scan with any of the games. The progressive defaults it into that resolution and the upscale/smoother doesn't apply. I've tested it and it's true.

Oh no. Go ahead and get the update. It's pretty quick. Once you have the update, you'll find the game options in your XNA or XMA or whatever. When you boot up God of War 2, it'll ask if you want to continue to use progressive. Just select no. Start your game up and walla. And i you have widescreen, you can select that option with no problems within the game itself.
