Poll God of War Ragnarok, the PS5 vs PC analysis DF didn't do.. (5 votes)

Yes! DF will continue focusing on Pro v PC comparions just like PS5 even if PC loses 20%
No! DF (or just Alex) clearly don't like to show ppl results that don't come out in PC favor 80%

and or rather wouldn't do!

This generation anyone else notice DF LOVES doing PS5 v PC comparison videos ...and other times they randomly just skip it?

God of War Ragnarök is one of those oddly skipped occasions.

After watching the analysis you may understand why.

Fantastic analysis from Michael Thomas, but why was DF a complete no show on this OBVIOUS comparison match up?

RESULTS?

  • Ported by the same team who did GOW2018 Jetpack interactive
  • Calls out other "tech sites" for not acknowledging that Vram & memory do impact performance. Emphasizing *min spec 6GB gfx cards need to run a everything LOW. PS5 runs textures on ULTRA to high, 8GB cards would be reach medium.
  • PS5 runs spotlights in shadow details ABOVE ultra on PC
No Caption Provided
  • Reflections also on PS5 also run ABOVE PC's ultra mode where PS5 has ray traced cube maps, BVH proxy Geo & SSR but PC only has running SSR
No Caption Provided

Here PC's Ultra looks to be even a step below PS5's *performance mode in reflections.

No Caption Provided
  • PC has higher levels of particle effects than PS5 on Ultra settings
No Caption Provided
  • tessellation on PC is a settings running lower than both PS5 Quality & perf mode

PERFORMANCE COMPARISONS

PS5 Quality *NATIVE 1800- 4k vs 2070 "4k" DLSS quality (1440p!)

PS5 can be up to 100% faster at higher settings and resolution!

No Caption Provided

PS5 performance *NATIVE 1440p vs 2070 "1440p" DLSS quality (960p)

PS5 also shows a 40% - 60% advantage over this card running at higher resolutions

PS5 Quality 1800 - 4k DRS vs RX6800 native4k

The RX6800 (a card said to be on par with PS5 Pro) runs about 10% worse than PS5 while outputting a consistent native 4k resolution

No Caption Provided

PS5 performance 1440p vs RX6800 1440p

With identical resolutions PS5 manages a slightly higher average than 6800

  • 1 last positive for PC is that a 4090 with a decent CPU can run the game Ultra setting native 4k at 120fps

My thoughts? I think DF (Alex Battaglia) DID do an analysis on GOWR comparing PS5 v PC. It would kind of be ridiculous not to considering he already did a comparison video for PS5 v PC after the GOW 2018 port. He simply didn't like the results, so...he decided not to publish the analysis.

Do you think DF will skip even more DIRECT PS5 v PC comparisons when PS5 Pro is brought in the picture and the results are even more skewed away from the usual PC advantage?

No, that's not an analysis like what I just presented above.

If I'm mistaken please provide the God of War Ragnarok PS5 vs PC analysis video for me to stand corrected!?

Saying something was "fixed" isn't the same as doing the thing which I pointed out they decided NOT to do.

This -being your second screenshot- was fixed.

And you didn't do any analysis at all, boy

You don't own both the PC version and the PS5 version so you don't have the means to do such a thing.

I didn't do an analysis nor do I own a PC version of GOWR, but both those points are irrelevant to this thread.

I never said "I" did an analysis so why are you even trying to make that a point?

My point was when Digital Foundry (Alex Battaglia) DID do the analysis for GOWR he failed to so his usual PC vs PS5 comparison going over the plus and minus for each version.

Where was his head to head frame-rate comparisons using different cards at at different settings vs PS5 in the DF video?

Watching This analysis (which was done far AFTER Digital Foundrys) you realize that DF blatantly bypassed several key points they usually cover, especially with regard to PC vs PS5 results.

So he's either incompetent or unreliable to give consistent honest analysis. PICK ONE!

Perhaps, Digital Foundry also did a poor job on their analysis of that PC port at the time they did it.

Not perhaps, it's factually a poor port if the data you're showing is to be believed.

No, that's your assumption and or ignorance of the process of game creation.

Did you watch the analysis?

Reasons for why many of the things you see are explained in the video, so your conclusion simply comes from a knee jerk reaction thinking more power = better results that PC gamers tend to default to when talking hardware/games.

BTW:

What is funny this is the SAME porting studio that did the original GOW 2018 port. Only difference its not PC trying to run PS4 code, its PC running PS5's version code.

Huh? The game has crashing issues, AVX 2 issues, poor FPS, audio sync issues, insane vram usage, Ultra settings below console, has been patched 5 times in less than a month and more. All signs of a poor port.

If you want to make a point they didn't do it because they favor PC, fine.

But I hope you're not acting like PS5 is capable of producing better technical games than PC.

I'm not "acting like" anything.

My point wasn't that this title has significant advantages on PS5 over PC on virtually every configuration but the most power setups (which it did/does still)..

it was to illustrate the fact that Digital Foundry failed to, or refused to openly and honestly report clear & consistent analysis comparisons between PC v PS5 like they've done in all other instances where PC has had those same significant advantages over PS5.

My over arching question for this thread was, why did it take someone outside of DF to get a proper analysis for this game between PS5 & PC?

You can call it that, or you can call it incompetence on DF's part.

They seem untrustworthy or unreliable when it comes to giving out consistent, clear and honest reports on titles depending on the platforms and or specific game being covered.

What are you going on about? DF already did a video pointing out issues...

Loading Video...

They mentioned in a follow up during DF direct that they already fixed the asset streaming and improved tessellation performance. Sony has been pumping out patches left and right. They should stop half-assing things and get it right the first time.

I'm so disappointed this thread isn't about the discussion on God of War: Remaster Greek Collection we're supposed to get. Hoping for more details but nooo, it has to be another PS5 vs PC thread.

Also, I'm playing Ragnarok on PC and from my experience, it's pretty good, even though I still have the PS5 version.

Sony does love remastering games, but I have my doubts:

It's not a TLOU game after all.

All jokes aside (even if they're of this quality) I'd love to have the original three, as well as Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta on PC.

That's actually hilarious that OP posted a video that was made right after the game came out and is trying to claim ownage still.

The better comparison when it comes to technical specs between the 2 is Wukong.

Still, if the PS5 is outperforming a top tier PC in anyway means the issue is with the port not that the PS5 is some kind of magic machine that can bend reality

The port isn't as good as God of War 2018 the further I'm playing. I do believe the whole PSN mandatory is the cause for using too much data.
