God of War reaches exciting milestone, Playable from start to finish

Barlog revealed that it recently crossed a milestone. The game is now playable start to finish, at least some version of it.

"Ha. no…there is a whole game here," he said in response to someone who joked that the game might be limited to the deer-hunting sequence from the reveal trailer. "Just finished first full play through with the leads. Very exciting milestone for us!"

"I promise we will be showing something really awesome when it is ready," he said.

Maybe it actually has a shot of making 2017, though holiday 2017 is already packed with big titles. A few months ago an "insider" on NeoGAF claimed that they were starting over from scratch.

Looks incredibly emotional. Even though Kratos is absolute a sociopath in every sense of the word, pairing him with a little boy is cute. Unfortunately when Kratos dies (which we all know will happen) and the little boy becomes the next God Of War for the 12 or so sequels, replacing his bulky bald, criminal like face with that of Leonardo Dicaprio in a cynical attempt to appeal to a wider audience (including women), the core fanbase will probably feel betrayed and angry, abit like Kratos but not bad ass in the slightest. Which is unfortunate.

Love the new direction they took it. The old GoW grew stale.

I'm sad how they ruined one of my favorite franchises. I was looking forward to GoW4 until that terrible trailer

@silversix_: I'm not sure yet if this will be a masterpiece. If it makes it, then lonely old Bloodborne will finally have some company.

While I didn't love the trailer, I was overjoyed to read that God of War 1-3 team member, and God of War 2 Director, Corey Barlog, that had previously left Sony, has returned and is directing God of War 4.

I can't wait.

I don't think he nailed it at all, since that was basically the opening section of the game and he's spamming a barrage of mid-late game footage.

Even God Of War III's visually speculator opening, it's more linear than this, with less control.

Quite exploitative really.

Eh...... I dont like the Ryse Son of Rome style of gameplay.

The new story seems very interesting, but I typically dont like middle evil/middle ages/Viking era Europe setting.

There are thing that have me very interested in this game despite having to major negatives (gameplay and setting).

I love the old GoW, and I hope I love the new too.

I do not think it will get to BB levels. In fact, i don't think there's gonna be a game *this gen* that surpasses the quality of BB (and its amazing dlc too, can't forget that).

yup. just look at DeusEX:MD. they didn't change anything and people bitched about how archaic the game felt. if they did changed it, they would've bitched because "doesn't feel like a DeusEx game anymore"...

kratos used to be black features. his wife and son were dark brown in the original games.

however the new voice actor is still black so that's good.

I hope it wins me over. I wanted a change to GoW but the changes they showed just didn't impress me. TLOU-like child co star, the weapon is a cheap Gimli from LOTR axe. It just wasn't impressive to me. Days Gone is giving me a deep wispy remembrance of the old days while plugging a Zombie shooter, GoW and TLOU2. It just seems Sony is hell bent on pushing the emotional-cinematic thing hard. I believe that it has its place, but lighten up guys. What's next? Is Spider-Man going to have a Gwen Stacy love tie in just so we can all watch her lose her life at the hands of the Green Goblin? But I cant say I blame them in truth. Reviewers here must have massive Kleenex bills the way they love the emotional heart games. Like a fellow SW said to me on PSN, for Xbox to have a shot at getting a 9/10 from one of their games Maya Angelou would've had to write the game script.

Nah Nioh has kinda already done that for me and I'm just talking the demo. The full game (Nioh) has a chance to creep into Demon's Souls level of mastery which is leaps and bounds above what Bloodborne has to be honest.

I know, being a xbone fanboy news of high profile Sony exclusives is never exciting but one day MS will announce a high quality high profile game too....but don't hold me to that, I wouldn't want you to get your hopes up for nothing.

We will see about Nioh, its certainly gonna be tight but BB (to me that is) was special. The kind of games you don't get very often per generation.

Did you even took the time to look at the demo of the "gameplay"? This is the very reason some folks;myself, are pissed with the new direction because it plays more like an Uncharted/Gears game than a GOW game. And if the video linked further up is true, it was intentional. Voiding your claim that its not about being a movie.

I don't mind the change in setting, the introduction of the child, the changes to Kratos... but damn, the gameplay to this series has taken such a turn I'm not sure I can care for it like I once did. Sony needs to bring back David Jaffe to save the series, make him a contract he can't refuse.

Yup, just look how the DMC fanbase loved theDmC reboot....oh wait! The funny thing is even though DmC wasn't as dumbed down and a casual walking simulator as the new Dad of Bore is.

And I would really like if the next FromSoft game is a clone of Ryse.

Just gimme some Norse Gods to fight, I don't care who it is, I'll kick Thor's ass. Beyond that, I'm keeping an open minded on this new approach where this new God of War is going for and I'll admit, the angry Spartan is getting old and I like to see Kratos has an open minded for once, not a brainless Spartan we been getting since God of War 2/3.
