I've bought Dragon Age: Origins on my PC (awesome game by the way) and this is the first game that I can't play on high performance. I'm stuck playing medium graphics, medium everything, which doesn't really bother me, but it suddenly hit me, that sooner or later I will have to upgrade if I want to handle new games. Actually, I would get a whole new PC.

So I've decided that instead of paying a lot for a new good gaming PC, I will just buy an Xbox after Christmas, when all the family stuff will be done with. Reasons for doing so:

1. Cheaper than new PC.

2. NEVER AGAIN SHALL I WORRY ABOUT SYSTEM SPECS!!! (I have a good TV for the xbox)

3. Xbox never needs to be upgraded. Just buy the next version when it comes out.

4. No Crash-to-desktop!

5. I have more friends with Xbox 360's, so that's why I pick Xbox and not PS3.

I understand that games are a bit more expensive than PC games, and there are a few games that only come out for PC (mainly strategy), and then there is the xbox live subscription, but considering the benefits, I think this will be the best thing to do.

What I want to ask you guys is: What are your opinions? Good idea? Bad idea? Have any of you done the same thing as me? I don't have much experience with Xbox gaming, so I just want to know if its worth it.

While I don't agree with some of those points, the one about having friends on Xbox justifies it. Having friends makes the experience

i have had the 360 since launch and i cant complain, well expect for the RROD issue but that is fixed now. I never got into PC gaming hardcore expect for WoW so i cant give a fair analysis. But i find all the gaming fixes i need on the 360. I cant afford a high end PC. To be honest if i had the money i probably would have a high end PC, PS3 and the 360 all hooked up to 3 52 inch HDTV side by side while sitting in a room with a $3000 7.1 surround sound system with a nice gaming chair that vibrates and a robot that make me breakfast, lunch and dinner while serving a variety of cold drinks. But hey, i can't have it all lol

Stick to PC gaming.
Get a PS3 to accompany it. Why anyone would go from a PC to Xbox is beyond me.

I would ignore them too, as most of them are PS3 fanboys. The 360 is a good console just like the PS3 is.

This, you go from having the best free online possible to having to pay for an inferior service. And the Xbox is very unreliable with very overpriced accesories which will end up costing a lot of money anyways. Upgrade your PC if you can.

if you are not into upgrading then 360 is a great alternative to pc . gets most of the good games pc has and has great online . i am a pc gamer and i am not a ms fan. But it can be a good move for some . console game do cost a bit more but they have resale vaule . you cant trade in pc games and u cant even sell some . due to stuff like steam . you also cant rent pc games at places like block buster or rogers video .

the 360 is so much better. you will have alot more fun and its has less of the dark and gritty stuff than on ps3 and nearly twice the library.

At 1600x900, you can set max settings on ATI Radeon HD 4650 512MB VRAM GDDR3.

Sooner or later you're going to have to upgrade your console too. It isn't like there are a lot of games coming out which are going to tax your hardware. You should be fine for a few years to come.

BTW, what are your specs?

"Medium settings" indicates Geforce 8600 GT/9500 GT with DDR2 VRAM level GPU.

It's one offew reasons why I dumped my old ASUS G1Sn** and bought a Sony Vaio FW45GJ laptop** i.e. equipped with Mobility Radeon HD 4650 (320 SPs)512MB GDDR3 VRAM.

**For work, I need at least 1600 x 900/1050 LCD screen.

That is just preference my friend.

The TC may well enjoy a PS3 more, however it's just his choice.

On topic: that's a good choice for you TC. Seems like you want some no nonsense gaming, and a 360 is a good way to go.

Honestly is this the new SW fad to jab at the competition? The number of topics from people "claiming" to be converting from PC to console, this one has barely taken part on the forums.

My PC never RRoDed.Johnny-n-Roger

Depends on the motherboard. Refer to http://www.behardware.com/html/news/?date=11-03-2009#10121

If you have bought ASUS P5N-T Deluxe motherboard, it's a failure rate of 23.6% i.e. almost riving the Xbox's RRoD.

To quote the article, "it is nevertheless obvious that we do not recommend nForce chipsets for the Intel platform".

On another topic, I have stats on laptop reliability rates for ASUS, Toshiba, Sony, Apple, ACER, Dell, HP...

Meh, Games like Dragon: Age Origins is much better on the PC rather than 360 Version. Buy PC Parts like newer video card, ram, processor

before you do that you might want to consider that there is not a single x360 game that runs above medium settings. most are a mix of low - med settings. If you can run dragon age on medium you will be downgrading it going to x360. If you can run da fine on med there wont be a game this gen that x360 can run better than your pc. The only reason on getting x360 would be if you want to play online with your friends or want to play every game with a controller.

Actually you can rent games in Metaboli and Gametap. Upside is that is alot cheaper renting than on consoles ( $10-12 for as much games you want for 1month ) Downside though the selection of games although it does contain alot of new hits its lackluster

Its best to get the best of both worlds. I love PC gaming (despite is downsides) as well as all the consoles. 360 and PC are my primary platforms. PS3 and Wii haven't been touched in ages.

To clear up, I have more friends with the Xbox 360, while only one of my friends has a PS3, so I don't really see the point of getting the PS3. (If I could I would upgrade the PC, buy the Xbox 360 and the PS3, but I'm rather attached to my money)

I have though about upgrading the PC, but honestly, I've been a PC gamer since I was a kid, so I'll get the Xbox to try something new.

Thanks for your opinions :)

I have an Xbox and a PC, I like the xbox it is good at what it does, but my PC sees way more game time, it isn't even comparable. Besides my xbox RRODed on me, so I am waiting for it to come back. my PC is pretty much standard, an 8800GT OCed, c2d @ 3.2ghz and 3gb of ram, and the difference in graphics is quite noticible. PC games are always sharper, and I hate not having AF. 360 games most of the time have bad FPS, games like Mass Effect, GTA4, Fable all suffer framerade drops.

Games like dragon age will always be better on pc, even if you had to turn everything down to low it would still be better because of the interface.

1. Yeah if you are not able to upgrade your videocard

2. Yeah because console games dont give you the choice to set up your settings.

3. Which cost the same like a new videocard.

4. But RRoD.

It doesn't make sense to keep upgrading your video card and other hardware when a console will play games throughout the gen.

Compare the xbox360 to the ps3 and see which one you get. If I was in your position I would see which console is better. I wouldn't get it just because my friends have it. That's like me knowing that a R1 is more powerful than a R6 but I buy the R6 just because my friends have it (motorcycles BTW). Your decision really.

While I don't agree with some of those points, the one about having friends on Xbox justifies it. Having friends makes the experience Wardemon50
My thoughts exactly. Playing with friends is what gaming is about.

Then again youll have to worry for some "differences" like: 1) PC AINT gets RROD ever , not to mention is overall way higher quality as hardware than any console. 2) With a PC of 600 Euros MAX thati bought a year ago , im playing "console" games as RE5 or SF4 in such quality that X360 could dream of. 1920x1200 res ( above 1080p Fullhd) 16x-8x filters AND 16:10 60fps!! VS 1280x720 low to medium quality graphics!! !>>?? come on!! 3) Games are way cheaper so in the long run ( 20games or more) PC will be way cheaper than X360 as a gaming machine!!!!!!!! 4) With X360 peripherals as STICKS AND PADS , you can hook up your PC to any HD TV and play like a console can do...!! 5) With PC you can do 214253463636 others things as well !! From shows to music , from music production to anything...!!!!!!!! 6) Online gaming on PC is so huge ... that i really cant explain HOW you got more friends in X360!!! really..... but ok 7) 100000 FREE games for PC gamers. FROM MMOS to RTS , from EMUS to free online SPORT GAMES!!! 8) FREE NET , i mean come on :) And many many more.... So in the end do what you want but just a tip!!!! I FINISHED COD4 on my PENTIUM 4 2.4 , X800 pro card and 1GB RAM..... at 1024x768 medium settings.!!!!! Dunno whay you think PCs cant handle games after 1-2 years but IF YOU CUT the game to X360 quality youll play games on PC till Xbox 23423525!!! Well do what you want but think about it first.
