Alan Wake 2 is a game that was regarded well, but in realty, was never a good franchise, just mid. With possibly the worse main character in human existence, soy man, who they tried to make like John Wick in 2 to appeal to children.

Anyways, still not making money, but it's getting there. Still not on Steam thanks to Epic blood money, which didn't help.

(this game had a woman)

Alan Wake 2 has now recouped "most" of the money it cost to make

But yet to start earning royalties.

After a year on sale, Alan Wake 2 is finally close to recouping the money Remedy spent on developing and marketing the game.

Remedy's latest financial results, published today, note the critically-acclaimed Alan Wake 2 is still to "generate royalties", but had now "recouped most of its development and marketing expenses".

The long-awaited sequel has struggled to sell in big numbers since its launch this time last year. The past month has seen Remedy move on from its development, following the launch of its second and final expansion The Lake House, and the release of the game's physical deluxe edition.

More generally, Remedy said its development costs for the past quarter had increased due to higher development fees forControl 2andMax Payne1&2. Royalties decreased, meanwhile, as sales largely consisted of the aging Control and original Alan Wake.

In the long-term, Remedy said it was still committed to growing both Control and Alan Wake brands as "a key part of our future", with Control in particular set to be expanded by recently-unveiled spin-off FBC: Firebreak.

Remedy's first full multiplayer project is set to launch as a "mid-priced game" in 2025, though will also be offered as part of both Xbox and PC Game Pass, as well as PlayStation Plus.

It's unclear what's next for Alan Wake, meanwhile.

It literally, didn't help.

And they were right not to fund it, right here is the proof.

The issue that companies have is that they think they can make a sequel to Half Life 2 after 17 years and that people would still care. Alan Wake 2 flopped. RDR on PC flopped. HL 3 will flop.

And no, you're wrong. You're making it seem like Epic bought exclusivity:

They did in fact not buy exclusivity.

Legit wish this was factually correct. But it isn't. As predicable as the sun rises, on mass, dumbos chomped up their massively overpriced 14 year old game that isn't even a remaster.

https://gamerant.com/red-dead-redemption-1-steam-reviews/

The exact same with happen with GTA6, it will be the beacon, which all publishers are just sitting, waiting, salivating for, to have a new higher game price point. As soon as that drops, in unison, they will all artificially increase their price to normalized it. We will scream, bitch, but accept it, like all things our overlords tell us to accept.

Very sad.

Putting it day one on GamePass getting the big bucks upfront from MS would have cured all its ills. ;o

Wonder how much Alan Wake 2 cost if only few million units needed to recoup. Likely within $40m ~ $50m.

Tbh Remedy themselves fumbled chances of selling the game by signing Epic store exclusivity and doing digital only launch, alienating thousands of console physical users.

I myself havent bought it simply due to Remedy unable to do accessibility cheat feature for Alan Wake 2 like in Control.

Hell yeah, this is a fantastic game and I loved every second of it!

Can't wait to see how it runs on my brothers Pro.

This is still on my "wait until I can get it for under $20 list" Is it worth that price and my time?

I think Alan Wake 1 is decent and really enjoy Control

Control is cool for its jedi powers but I didn't really get the story or characters. The vibe and atmosphere was nice though.

Alan Wake 2 is 200% vibe and atmosphere and has survival horror gameplay.

Feel the same way. It relied way too much on ”datapads” filled with jibberish. I’m sure the dedicated fan can make some sense of them, but I just stopped trying after a while.

Gameplay was fun though.

Going like: Hey that's max payne's voice actor and hey that's Alan wake's voice actor was pretty cool at first, but after a while I just stopped losing interest in the characters and story.

it's set up like this X-files sort of governmental facility with all the strange things going on, but it never really goes anywhere from there. It never ups the antee.

I feel other Remedy games have far better writing, but I don't mind them trying something new, and I'll probably get Control 2 :)

I got a physical copy last week for PS5, comes with all the DLC and the remastered Alan Wake 1 as a digital download.

Loving it so far, getting more hyped for Control 2

Alan Wake 2 is a LOT better than 1, IMO. I think you'd really like it.

I did my part and purchased the digital deluxe version on the XSX. I could do more perhaps. Should also get the PS5 version as well.

I enjoyed it, still need to play the DLC, I didn't think this sequel was all the hype but still pretty good, needed some minor QoL tweaks regarding how the item pickups are randomized and quantities allotted. Aside from those small but few QoL annoyances, I rather liked it once I figured out how to manage the odd pick up logic (i.e. go dump your excess ammo pickups in the shoebox immediately!)

Why TC got a hate boner for this game? Was it because it was an Xbox exclusive for a decade? And/or because it's "woke" because it has got a black woman lead and he's sick and tired of the deep state trying to stick its "agenda" down everyone's throats?

@lamprey263: I don't understand the "woke" fear for this game. You play two characters throughout the game, all the actors/actresses do a great job and there isn't any political propaganda in your face.

Very well written game, need more like it

Really felt like Remedy hit their stride with Control, so I'm looking forward to playing AW2. But I tend to buy things years later at a steep discount. Hopefully they put this on GOG by then.

@R4gn4r0k: @Sushiglutton: I totally get why a lot of folks got sick of reading all the weird and cryptic memos lying around in Control. But it does start to make a weird kind of sense if you keep up with them. I really liked the story, and the way it was presented, in the end.

Keeping it Epic exclusive on PC probably hasn't helped matters but obviously I understand why Epic would do that given they funded it. But it does limit the exposure quite a lot.

I can see that being the case. I frankly didn't understand them. But that could easily be an error (or lazyness) on my end. You make me think that I should have made more of an effort.

@Sushiglutton: I don't think you missed anything, the memos are all strange and cryptic. That never really goes away, but overtime tiny bits of information start to add up. A lot never becomes clear, but you do get a sense of how the Hiss works, and why the Bureau lost control (ha!) of it.

But if you don't like ambiguous storytelling, it will stay frustrating all the way through.

Probably thanks to the physical edition that they refused to release on launch day. Had it be day 1 and the sales would probably be better

Not sure why I thought it sold well. First one didnt sell that great either, if I'm not mistaken.

Doubt it'd be as bad if they had released it on a good PC platform, made physical copies, and generally not hook their own legs.
