Waste management.
Waste management.

Google offers refunds after adding games to the Stadia Pro subscription just two weeks after putting them on sale

But you have to request it manually.

Google has offered refunds to anyone who has already bought a game just added to the £8.99-a-month Stadia Pro subscription.

Overnight, Google announced two new games available for Stadia Pro subscribers for the month of December: Farming Simulator 19 and Tomb: Raider Definitive Edition.

Both games go live at 5pm UK time on 1st December, and bring the total number of Stadia Pro titles to four (Destiny 2: The Collection and Samurai Shodown are already on there).

The problem is, Farming Simulator 19 (£29.99) and Tomb: Raider: Definitive Edition (on sale at £8) were Stadia launch titles (yes, you have to buy Stadia games on top of the cost of the Stadia Pro subscription). Some Stadia owners, who are by default currently Stadia Pro subscribers because of the three months thrown in with the Founder's Edition, bought these games - and just two weeks later Google is making them available to all Stadia owners for free.

Perhaps mindful of a potential backlash, Google is offering refunds.

"We know that some users have recently purchased these two games for their collection," wrote google community manager Grace. "Because of the proximity between the launch of the platform, and the announcement of these titles in Stadia Pro, we're happy to assist you if you'd like to request a refund if you have purchased either or both of these titles, even if it's outside of our normal policy."

While it's good to see Google offer its customers a refund on this, it feels like it should be an automatic thing, rather than something people need to manually request. If you do want a refund, head over to Google's Support website.

Stadia Pro is in desperate need of games before its three months free period expires, so expect Google to add a chunk of games to it over the coming months. Of course, other platforms run into this same issue: Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus subscribers often lament the addition of free games to their subscriptions if they've recently bought the incoming titles - but both those platforms at least give a month's notice.

I do not expect Google will offer a refund of this kind again but I do expect it to announce Stadia Pro games at least one month in advance from now on.

Stadia is sure having a rocky start. Firs they mislead you can play 4K flawlessly and now this. Keep this up and you'll be joining the likes of OnLive's grave very soon.

I was holding my tongue about Stadia being hot garbage. Google should be given a chance and all in the console business, right? (I know, I know, not really a console buuut yeah)

That being said, Stadia is hot garbage.

Let's be honest though, even if Google Stadia worked perfectly at 4K, 60 FPS max settings even on an abysmally weak internet connection and somehow managed to bypass and and all Data caps, people would still be whining about having to pay for each game on top of the subscription. I'll grant you that $60 per game plus the cost of subscription is high, but many of these people would still complain if it only cost $20 per game plus the subscription fee. My experience on the mater is that most people want to pretend that the future of gaming will be steaming like Netflix but in reality it's going to be either Stadia's model or the Cable Company's model. (You could have a Netflix model for retro gaming though.)

On a side note your buddies at Xbox seem to be delivering with their streaming service. I know you are dying to play Xcloud.😎

A response after only 10mins, you simply can't resist lol.

Anyone want to buy Stadia shares off of Pedro? someone? anyone? oops seems like everyone knew this was a shit idea, except for you lol. Well at least this thread informed you that you could get a refund :)

As for Xcloud, well i'm sure you will be dick riding MS like you have been for Google & Stadia lol.

Upsetting me, huh? i'm LMFAO at this as its a massive failure, much like your comebacks, and its even funnier that you can't tell the difference between joy & sadness :)

Oh and please try and construct a sentence that makes sense.

Why people are actually buying games for Stadia baffles me. You are paying to be beta testers and you are paying a lot.

There was no comeback needed as you messed up yours and i'm just making fun of you like always lol.

I was merely stating simple facts, that I find the Stadia's many issues funny, and that you couldn't construct a proper sentence when trying to make a comeback lol.

I just can't believe a company as rich as Google isn't taking more costs on the chin to get this concept of theirs off the ground. When you're trying to float something like Stadia, you need to make sure the cost barrier is low. People are not going to take the plunge when you're charging full price for the games on TOP of a subscription fee AND the cost of the hardware.

From what I understand, Stadia has only sold to 20-25k at launch. Not exactly lighting the world on fire.

Xbox One is gonna finish 4th again, huh?

Jokes aside, they dont actually have to sell anything. You can play the stadia without actually buying that bundle.

@Pedro: Stadia.com using google chrome. You can use mouse and keyboard too. The only time you will need a stadia controller is when playing on a TV.

Ps: I don’t plan on ever playing/using stadia. Just clearing up some confusion/misinformation.

I'm guessing it's because they just want to test the waters without throwing a ton of money into it. They know it's not exactly a surefire product, so they only invest a bit for now just in case it doesn't pan out the way they want it to.

yeah looks to be the case, but it is an odd approach from a company of their size. they're acting like a plucky young startup taking a punt.

i haven't seen any advertising for it, maybe it's just a soft launch and something with a bit more fanfare will follow, although feels like a missed opportunity to launch around black friday with christmas round the corner and not try and capitalise on a time of year when people will be spending
