Quality hardware (sonys strength) + awesome software (googles strength) with these powers combined u get an awesome company.

I also think they could realease a very sweet gaming console, one that would have a good OS (unlike the ps3's average os that it uses atm.)

Why would they invest in a company that's swimming in debt and failure?

The only reason would be to expand their market. Sony isn't doing well this gen, as their quality has dipped.

um... you know Sony isn't just games... you know that, right? Also keep in mind that rival, NON-video game companies aren't doing comparably better with Panasonic having a near identical market cap, joint ventures in screen manufacturing with Samsung, and joint ventures with Google (with limited success).

What their buying is their foot into the hardware market. Sony make great hardware - the quality of the ps3 and vita is very high. Where they fall down is their software, which isnt up to the same level as their competitors. ATM google just provide an OS to other companies to use in their hardware - the next step would be to product some hardware yourself.

Sounds more like bad luck to me. To keep in the gaming sense, I'm on 360 number 4. In comparison, I still have a functioning 60GB PS3 and another fat 80GB.

Of the 3 consoles I'd definitely say Nintendo has the most reliable hardware. My NES, SNES, Original Gameboy, and Gameboy Color all still work perfectly fine even after being boxed up in an attic for 12 years. Plus I hardly ever hear of Wii's breaking

This is just a stupid idea and it's not going to happen, it is true though that Sony had bad software at the start of this gen, but eventually they leaned it. Today PSN is great and easily the best online service on consoles (XBL is a scam, not a service).

So your premise is wrong.

Don't expect Google to make a console out of Sony, you can only excpect more Google TV devices out of them which will only spllit out more Angry Birds with this combo of companies :p in fact Sony is already Number 1 OEM og Google TVs

Sony-Google would be an excellent pairing for someone into consumer electronics. But I doubt it happens just because Japan isn't going to let an American company buy a Japanese icon. I hope they work together more though (i.e. that PS4 gets google chrome browser, maybe they go ahead and put an improved version of Google TV into PS4 along with a 4K blu-ray player). One would there there would be a very good chance of that considering they have already worked together on Google TV hardware/software in other devices.

That's a good point. Sony might not want to give up their own revenues from PSN. Can't just hand that over. LIkewise Google might not want to setup the whole suite into Playstation without that app-store revenue stream of their own.

It's not like the PS3 doesn't have most of the essential applications you need anyway as far as movies and enterinatment goes (Vudu, Hulu+, Netflix). The only thing to me it's really "missing" is a competent web browser.

Google TV.

They are already working with Sony. Although I'm pretty sure more manufacturers will also be coming out with Google TV devices. Sony just had the first ones. I don't really think they are taking off, though they do seem pretty interesting to me. The only problem is the Sony models aren't really high end TV's, they are basically Sony's low end TV's with Google TV as the main selling point. There is also a standalone device with with a blu-ray player. It has potential as they come out with more/new models.

Google doesn't need to buy a hardware company to get into hardware. They need to hire hardware engineers to get into hardware.

The only reason Google buys companies is essentially to gain their list of patents. That's all.

Not only that, but there are laws in place that prevent a non-Japanese company, or person, owning more than 50% of a Japanese company.

All my Atari systems which are all launch all still work and play games normally, while Nintendo hardware lasts they usually shows signs whether you ignore it or not of them going out. Atari and Sega just know how to make hardware. (Atari used to know software too.)

When an American was CEO of Sony there was a lot of protest in the company because he was not Japaneses. Sony sellls well in Japan one of the largest markets for gaming, if an American company bought them out I think that would hurt Sony's image in that country.

Apple is not into buying companies, they start things from scratch. They have a fanbase that will buy anything they make, why buy Sony? Specially when one of the worse divisions of Sony is their TV division, it's just bleeding money. Another bad division from Sony is their cell phones which is also bleeding money and Apple already has the Iphone that is crushing them (Google also has Android and Motorola for that matter).

It would be interesting if Google was to buy Playstation and Apple buy Nintendo (or vice versa). Than the big 3 will be going at it in yet another market. I'm sure that if Apple was to make a console they would be hailed as creating something that is life changing and has never been done before. OMG you can play games on it... mind blown!

I think Nintendo or Microsoft should buy Sony before Sony goes bankrupt with the Vita and PS4.Sony as a whole is in a complete mess and is failing in everything for the last 7-8 years..If Microsoft and Nintendo cant afford to buy the whole company, they should at least buy Sonys gaming division.I hope Nintendo buys their gaming divion and turn their broken franchises into worthwhile games on the WII U.

Why would they invest in a company that's swimming in debt and failure?

phonemug

considering googles move into other area's with systems such as Smart TV and the whole android platform, it would essentially give them more control, Sony makes a good investment because they hae all the right stuff but they just cant seem to use it.

If they can help sony be profitable and position themselves well with Sony it would be a good move, regardless of debt which at that moment would be the least of their worries AND sony isnt technically in debt either as their assets pretty much outweigh their debt, if they sold off Sony BMG and Columbia Tristar im sure they would easily end up in the black same goes for them selling their shares in S-LCD.

Just the company needs restructured, but trying to tell you that is like telling a guitarist to play drums...they just dont get it.

I disagree. Google just need to trim the fat and discontinue sonys dud products. Google could get into the gaming, Tv, and computer market which would all tie into their OS specialty. This would really be a win in their fight with apple.

Sony would be dead to me if that happened. We would see a new Playstation every 6 months with a minor feature upgrade. It wouldnt be good for anyone.
